Physical Description of Persona:
Though she has been called beautiful many times, Nialyn's shy modesty will never let her admit it to herself. Her thick, sunsilk hair falls down a little past her shoulders. She has a willowy build, and fair skin that would rather burn instead of tan (much to her chagrin) when she's out and about in the southern sunlight. There always seems to be a hint of a permanent blush in her cheeks too - something that enhances the shade of her crystal blue eyes.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Very shy by nature, it is hard to draw Nialyn out of the safety of her shell. She lacks the confidence to push forward and make the first move concerning anything - especially when it comes to human relationships. Her insecurity makes her search for concrete evidence of the other's feelings - something that certainly inhibits her emotional and independent growth. However, when Nialyn makes up her mind about something, her feelings about the subject in question run strong, and it will be very hard to sway her from her decisions and opinions.

History of Persona:
Though both her parents, senior journeyman technician Niabo and Ceradlyn, were born in the North, Nialyn was born in the South at Amber Hills Hold. Her childhood was normal for a young southern girl, but unlike most southern girls, she was entertained by her mother's stories of her own childhood spent at one of the northern Weyrs. Though Nialyn found the dragons themselves rather fascinating, she was content with her life at Amber Hills and had no desire to leave and see the sights of the Weyr that her mother seemed to miss so much.

When Nialyn was sixteen Turns, her father died of a heart-attack. After their period of grieving, Ceradlyn decided to move them to Dragonsfall Weyr instead of staying on at Amber Hills.

The abrupt transfer to the Weyr was hard on Nialyn, but for her mother's sake, she forced herself to try to grow accustomed to the change. She did her very best to fit in, to be like the Weyrfolk and find a comfortable niche in the strange place so different from everything she'd known and loved in her childhood. But it was difficult. Nialyn just didn't believe deep down in the same things the rest did. To this day she still regrets losing her virginity to a man she didn't know, and never saw again.

As Nialyn approached her nineteenth birthingday, she became pregnant. Instead of taking a short ride /between/, she decided to keep the baby. The father, Birigundi, and Nialyn grew very close over the months, and their relationship solidified once Lyndi was born.

However, while Nialyn wanted the three of them to be a true family, it was obvious that Birigundi was not of the same mind. This was a source of great tension between the two, and when she found out that Birigundi was having a baby with another girl, Nialyn knew he wouldn't change his mind--and she certainly wouldn't change hers--so they drifted apart.

It was during that time when Nialyn met brownrider K'lar. There was an instant connection between the two, and despite her own reservations about being in another relationship with a man, she fell for him.

As the months went by, she grew to truly care deeply for him, but she could never really forget Birigundi since the two saw each other frequently, drawn together by Lyndi. However, their tentative peace was soon shattered and Nialyn would have left the Weyr for Amber Hills if it hadn't been for Biri's vicious reminder that she and Lyndi would never be accepted into that society ever again, for she was unwed and had had a child out of wedlock. Desperate to find happiness in a place she had come to hate, Nialyn ended up accepting K'lar's offer and became his weyrmate.
