Persona Profile: Alalir (Inactive)

Writer: Nici

Name: Alalir
Age: 76
Birthday: m9 d23
Rank: Hold Resident
Location: Emerald Falls Hold

Physical Description of Persona:
Trimly built and tall, Alalir is starting to show signs of aging. HIs waistline isn't as trim as it once was, and the grey at his temples is certainly lightening to silver as it spreads into more of his hair. His hair is now a mix of dark brown and silvery grey, but his eyes are still the same blue-grey as in his youth.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Unshakably solid and loyal were the words used to describe Alalir by his brother-in-law, Caladyn. His ability to lead and organize was first recognized by his father-in-law and later Caladyn. Both used his skills at negotiation and he enjoyed the work. While his wife's dream was always for one of their sons to end up Lord Holder, he never expected to _become_ Lord Holder himself. After the murder of his brother-in-law, he accepted the rank out of obligation to his sons more than a wish for it for himself.

History of Persona:
Born to crafter parents before the Plague, Alalir was one of three children, their youngest. It was always assumed he'd become a crafter like his parents and he did apprentice for three turns. Feeling ill-suited for the demands of the craft, he left and took a job in the fields at Amethyst Cliff Hold. His sense of responsibility led to a promotion to field supervisor by age 23, when the Plague devestated the Hold population.

He'd married already by then, and luckily his wife survived the illness. They lost their two children to the disease, and she was determined to 'rebuild' their family. Within six turns of the loss of their children, Henraisa had produced three more children, two sons and a daughter. Then she suffered a series of miscarriages, later dying of pneumonia two turns after he made assistant Steward at 35.

Suddenly single, he found himself with the attentions of the Lord Holder's youngest daughter, Jerandra, who was 23 turns younger than he. Realizing her father's dislike for most of his daughter's husbands, Jerandra decided a better bet was marrying someone her father had trained. Despite the age difference and his three children by his first marriage, Alalir seemed perfect for her plan, as he was a great favorite of her father's. So in a relatively short time, he found himself promoted to Steward and married into the Hold's Bloodline.

He's happy enough with his marriage despite his wife's ambitions, especially since she's given him two more children, both sons. What he never expected was to be designated by his brother-in-law as Heir, since he was considerably older than Caladyn. After all, Caladyn was healthy, with a young wife, and expectations of many children in the future. However, for the sake of his own sons' standing in the Hold, he accepted the offer, realizing if nothing else it would guarantee their future. The unexpected murder of both Caladyn and his Lady returning from a Gather shocked Alalir most of all.
