Jylanya

Jylanya

Jylanya walked the half candlemark to the Weyr on the familiar trail
between it and the Hall. Here she was arranging for the Hallmaster's
wedding while hers would have to wait awhile. She felt guilty since
she should have expected Veerona's reaction yet in the warmth and
happiness of the moment she hadn't even thought how her little foster
daughter would take the news.

But she couldn't let that concern her right now, she had a very large celebration to plan and a short time in which to do it. It didn't take too long for her to get to where she was going and knock on the door.

Chaysea was up in her office trying to fix some books on her shelf
that had tipped and fallen over, which had resulted in quite a few
muttered curses as she worked, so she was near the door when the knock came. Swinging the portal open, she smiled at the unfamiliar face, "Afternoon," she tipped her head, "what can I do for you?"

"Hello," Jylanya said with a half smile. "I'm Jylanya," she extended
her hand, "Headwoman at Dolphin Hall."

She had heard the name, but it was the first time putting a face to
it, "Nice to meet you Jylanya, please come in. I had planned on coming by the Dolphin Hall some time to see things there, but," she cocked an eyebrow, "as you can see, that has yet to happen."

Jylanya smiled and entered waving a hand. "I remember my first days atthe Hall. There was never enough time in the day to get everything
done."

"Yes, I came from the Headwoman position at the Vintner Hall. As you
can imagine, coming to the fast pace of the Weyr was quite a change."Chaysea rounded her desk and took her seat, gesturing for Jylanya to
do the same.

Jylanya chuckled and nodded. "Yes, I know it was quite the shock for
me coming from a small cothold. But then the opening came up at the
Hall and I was glad to take it! The Weyr pretty much overwhelmed me. I
hope you're adjusting alright."

Chaysea lifted her hands a little, "I am adjusting pretty well, I
think. I have had help from a friendly bluerider who was not born at
the Weyr." Although to say that she and L'pin were much more than
friendly was an understatement, still, she didn't want Jylanya to
think she was like some women who came to the Weyr and threw away
every bit of raising they had ever had.

A slow knowing smile spread across Jylanya's lips. "I had my own brush
with a dragonrider." Hers hadn't gone smoothly at all and then he'd
disappeared. "But he left. I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in what
they say." She knew she probably sounded bitter but then that was
natural in her mind. He'd taken something precious from her as if it
were nothing. She took a deep breath and sighed. "Nevermind me," she
said. "Bad experience. But now I'm engaged," she held up her hand and
wiggled her fingers. "Master Naton."

**"I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in what they say."** The words
resonated in her mind. Before Z'an had died he had warned her himself
of being very careful with dragonriders. Now here was another woman,
with past experience, telling her to be careful. Was L'pin only after
one thing? No, he didn't seem like that type at all.... **But how many
dragonriders have you known, Chaysea?** A little voice inside her
prodded. The truth was that the Dolphin Cove dragonriders she had met
since her arrival were the first dragonriders she had ever known.
**Then you don't have a very good measure to judge them by, do you?**
Well, that was true. What if she couldn't trust her own judgement
because of her limited experience?

When the woman's hand flashed in front of her face, Chaysea broke from
her reverie, and smiled, "Oh, a Master? Congratulations! I have also
heard ladies mention how very handsome Master Naton is."

Jylanya blushed and looked down, "Yes, he is. He's made me very happy
though I can't say the same for my foster daughter. She didn't take it
well. So we're going to wait a little bit and she if she can reconcile
to the idea. Anyway, Master Famell..." she returned to the original
reason for her visit.

Chaysea supposed she had been 'lucky' that none of Dothran's children
had cared about him getting married, as long as it didn't cut too much
into their inheritance.

"Yes, what can I do for Master Famell?" She had yet to meet the
Hallmaster for the Dolphin Hall as he had been away on travels whens
he first arrived to Dolphin Cove.

"_He's_ getting married. But this one will be a large gathering and
we're going to need some transportation and possibly other support.
Perhaps a few cooks and servers?"

"Of course." Chaysea jotted down notes. She would ask for volunteers
first, some would want the extra money, and if that didn't garner
enough folks she would draft them herself. "We will need a big to do
for the Hallmaster."

"Yes we will, and I'll be happy to reciprocate at the next hatching or
other event you may need some assistance." Jylanya smiled at Chaysea.
She seemed a person she would like to get to know more

Chaysea returned the other woman's smile, "That will work out perfectly then."

"Great," Jylanya smiled. "I haven't really chatted with the bride
about it yet so don't have firm plans but the Hallmaster has political
needs for the event as you can imagine I'm sure." She stood and
offered her hand. "I really appreciate this Chaysea," she nodded. "You
should come over to the Hall sometime. I can show you around. I've
been thinking of opening up the top floor for some additional rooms
and could use your advice."

The Weyr's Headwoman stood and shook Jylanya's hand, "That sounds
wonderful. I came from a rather landlocked area so I love being near
the water. Especially with the possibility of seeing dolphins."

"Oh I'm sure you can see plenty of them. I'm sure the apprentices will
be working with the journeymen in the caverns and you'll be able to
observe. They're quite fascinating and intelligent." She started to
turn. "I'm sure I've taken up enough of your time today but it's been
a pleasure meeting you."

Chaysea smiled, "And you as well, Jylanya. I will be in touch soon."
