Handing over control of his group to another Weyrlingstaffer, E'ril
rushed over to the group of Healers and injured dragons and riders. He
was mindful to stay out of the way but he couldn't help stretching his
toes to look over shoulders in search of Pierka. He spotted Liddith,
still unconscious, and not far off was Pierka on a stretcher. The

Healers appeared to be rushing her to the Infirmary.

}: Both are still unconscious. The rider is injured on her back.
Liddith's right wing has been damaged. That's all I've been able to
gather.:{ The blue answered as best he could. Dawenth shared his
rider's concerns about the green pair. An injury to a Weyrling
normally had a huge impact on the rest of his class.

**Thank you. I'll check in on her at the Infirmary once this is
over.** Running back to the firestone line, he made a few corrections
and checked with the Staff for the latest formation updates. His mind
had not forgotten about Pierka or Liddith but he was determined to not
let it show. The some of the other weyrling dragons were beginning to
panic due to the spread of the grave news. E'ril had to be the pillar
of confidence to make them as comfortable as possible.

Liddith woke up in a panic reaching for Pierka and not finding her she
began to thrash. }:Mine!:{ she screamed.

}:Stop moving!:{ Came the immediate order from the queen. }:Yours
lives and is being tended by the healers. Stay calm and let them tend
your wound.:{ Panitanth's will controlled the young green firmly.

Up in the air, Sh'dori quickly adjusted to the shift in wing position.
They were experienced and knew what to do. They had lived through some
very bad Falls and they knew what their most important duty was: Keep
their position and keep flaming Thread.

**I just hope the little green and her weyrling will be fine,**
Sh'dori mused to his brown.

}: The healers will take care of them, :{ Rahmuth said with confident
tone. He had an absolute trust to their skills.

** On your left," Sh'dori said, pushing away his worry and
concentrating on the task at hand. He purposely avoided thinking
about his numerous off-springs and other relatives who also were
fighting Thread. He would be incapacitated if he started to fidget for
them. When he he was fighting Thread, he had no family. There was just
him and Rahmuth, working as one.

}: Got it, :{ Rahmuth said and flamed.

On the ground, when X'ian saw Liddith and Pierka brought in, injured,
his all insticts told him to ran to see if he could help. But his duty
was deliver firestone, besides, there were plenty of healer, all of
them having more experienced with Thread Fall injuries than he. So he
stayed put, waiting orders from E'ril. It was hardest thing he had
done so far in his life. To just wait when his friend needed help,
watch others tend her.

}: She'll be fine, :{ Camyth crooned to Liddith, sticking his nose
were it didn't belong. X'ian just hoped the blue was not interfering
with Panitanth.

In the infirmary, just as he was being laid on a cot, N'vanik woke up.
He was disoriented, having no idea where he was or how he'd gotten
there. Loseth's anxious mindvoice filled his head. }:You're awake!:{

**What happened?** His head and upper right side throbbed. "Where am
I?" he asked the people hovering over him.

"Sir, you're in the infirmary. You've suffered a concussion and a bit
of a pull to the shoulder. Please don't move." The healer didn't want
to give him fellis just yet because of the concussion. They did
numbweed his shoulder though.

Cyradis relayed the information to Panitath just in case and then
spoke up. "Loseth is fine but the weyrling pair was scored. Healers
have them now and it looks like they'll both survive thanks to your
quick reactions.."

--
Back in the wings, D'rid cursed as a sharp burning pain laced his shoulder
and his blue blinked immediately between. They came out of the cold,
a grimace twisting the blue rider's face. Before he could even be asked,
he reassured his Hormith. **Just a slight score. I'll be fine, just keep
flaming.**

Hormith bugled and then let out a blast of flame that charred silver
clumps ahead of him in response. }: You need a Healer. :{

**Not yet. When we get back, it'll be looked at. Above you!**
Hormith banked sharply avoiding the thread, then diving to flame it
to oblivion.

R'enh directed Mnoranth to pull the wing back into position thankful
his steady browns were keeping the blues and greens in line and
organized. The weyrlings coming to resupply the wing were a little
rattled but they were doing the job well with no more incidents, for
which he was thankful. He heard Mnoranth call a blue back into
formation and twisted his head around to see where the rider had gone.

Hormith heard the summons and snorted agreement as he banked again
to fly back into formation. D'rid grimaced as the message was passed
to him; he would surely be getting what he knew would be a passionate
chewing when the Fall was done.

}:I had to flame it! :{ Hormith threw back his head, chewing the next stone
thoroughly.

**You should have let...** D'rid's words were stopped with a sudden
garbled scream. Distracted only for a moment by the conversation
with his blue, neither of them noticed the strands of Thread that shifted
with the wind and blew right into D'rids neck, head and shoulders. In an
instant, his entire head and neck was engulfed by the pulsing mass.

Damp, half-chewed stone fell from Hormith's mouth as his scream of anguish
echoed that of his rider's. The blue blinked between and did not re-emerge.

The keening was as unbearable as it always was. E'ril didn't even have time to
find out anything about who it was or what had happened. All he knew
was the immense
sadness felt by his lifemate who keened his grief with the rest of the
Weyr's dragons.

His training and experience helped E'ril separate his thoughts from
Dawenth's a turned
to the Weyrling's. "Keep your lifemate's under control! Do _not_ let
them fly!" Dragonets
tended to panic and occasionally would go /between/ themselves over
the pain of the loss they
felt.

Camyth's keening was terrible thing to hear. X'ian just wrapped his
arms around the blue's neck and hugged him tight. And they even didn't
know personally this one.

** Who was it? ** Sh'dori asked.

}: Hormith :{ Rahmuth replied curtly. Neither had anymore time to
dwell with it. They had Thread to fight.

Loseth keened along with the other dragons at the Weyr. N'vanik tried
to get up despite the pounding in his head. "What happened? Who was
it?"

}:Hormith and his are gone,:{ the bronze answered.

That didn't explain anything and only made the Weyrleader's panic
worse. One of the healers held him down while another explained the
situation to N'vanik.

Cyradis realized she was probably more distraction than help and had
just turned from the Weyrleader toward where the healers were working
on the young greenrider when the keening started. "Another one?" She
knew immediately it wasn't the young green but every death stabbed her
in the heart.
----

"No!" R'enh broke into a stream of invective. "Faranth take this
sharding Fall!" He wanted to smash his fist into something in his
frustration, but Mnoranth's pain at Hormith's death helped him bank
his anger. They were almost done and there right ahead of them was the
end of it.

He gave the order to begin the sweeps and return his tired wing to the Weyr.
