Characters: E'ril, T'aesh
Description: E'ril has a chat with T'aesh before class
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 19 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentor approved by Emma

It seemed like a harsh way to start the day to E'ril but certain
things needed to be taken care of. He had heard and read much about
Taeshin's, now his student T'aesh's, behavior and attitude after his
last Hatching. To him it seemed that the boy simply had an odd way
with others but he wanted to be cautious and set the boundaries before
they got pushed. When T'aesh strolled into class, E'ril came forward.
"T'aesh, may I have a quick word? I promise you won't miss anything."
He intended for this discussion to be brief and have the Weyrling back
in his spot before the lecture began.

T'aesh nodded his acquiescently trying hard to hold back a yawn and
failing. He had spent most of the night starring at Raisheth, and
only a few candlemarks after he fallen asleep Raisheth's hunger had
woken him back up. Once he was done yawning, T'aesh gave the
weyrlingstaff assistant an apologetic grinned, and indicated he was
ready to follow him.

E'ril led him out into the hall and away from the door a bit. They
didn't need any eavesdroppers spreading their conversation through
the Barracks. "So, T'aesh, I wanted to just make a few things clear
before your training begins. I know that you don't always have the
easiest time with people and that, in the past, this has caused you
to act out negatively towards others. I know that you have been
watched carefully over the last month or so and that due to your
improved behavior and attitude you were cleared to Stand. Now that
you have Impressed do not think that the work ends. Myself and the
others on staff will not accept anything less than the Weyrwoman
herself and with us there are no second chances. Is this clear?"

T'aesh's eyes flashed in anger. He was sure that the whole business
of his improper attitude was done, now that Raisheth had chosen him.
He had promised Janani he would uphold the honor of the Weyr and
behave. He and Meledei were beginning to mend fences, everything was
going swimmingly, and now this. T'aesh expected to have had some more
of talking to, but this was unexpected.

}: You are upset, what is wrong? :{ Raisheth interjected. T'aesh's
emotions had woken the sleepy brown dragonet from an after breakfast
sated coma.

**Nothing my love. Go back to sleep, I didn't mean to wake you.**
T'aesh told his dragon, making a mental note that he must really learn
to control his emotions from now on.

He looked back to E'ril, schooling his facial expression, and calming
himself down. "If you track mud in the hold once, you can't be upset
if the lady of the hold makes you take off your boots for sevendays to
come" his father used to say. This was the repercussions of T'aesh's
immature actions, and it probably wouldn't be the only time someone
would want to have this same talk with him in the coming sevendays.

"I understand E'ril" he said, nodding in compliance.

E'ril surveyed the boy's expression carefully. He had been harsh,
something he did not enjoy being but, more often than he liked, it
was a necessary tactic. The flash of anger in T'aesh's eyes was to be
expected. Carefully, his blue eye's met T'aesh's own. In a softer tone
he continued, "I know you do, son. I believe that you have changed for
the better and worked very hard to prove yourself. Raisheth would not
have chosen you if this were not so. I want only to see you succeed and
be the best rider for this Weyr. Myself, and the other trainers, are here
for you and anything you may need. Remember that."

T'aesh visibly relaxed. E'ril was right, he had worked hard to change
his attitude and his interactions, and Raisheth definitely wouldn't
have chosen him if he was still acting like a spoiled child. Besides,
there was nothing that anyone could do to separate T'aesh and his
brown now, so there was no worry. He simply had to prove himself all
over, a hard task but not an impossible one.

"Thank you E'ril" T'aesh said, a smile once again beginning to creep
across his features.

"No, thank you, T'aesh. You have no idea how relieved I am that you decided
to change your attitude before Impressing. You'll much less of a handful
now, still a handful, but less." His tone suggested he was only joking around as
did the friendly smirk. "Now, before you get back to class, was there anything
you had for me? Questions, concerns..." E'ril always liked to give the
weyrling's an open floor just to be sure they had everything they needed.

T'aesh shook his head. "No, nothing that I or Raisheth need at the
moment. Give us a sevenday or two, I'm sure will be grating on your
nerves by then" he said grinning mischievously. T'aesh looked back
towards the teaching room to see more of the newly Impressed weyrlings
begin to file into the room.

"Of course. Now, let's get you off to your first day of class, young man,"
E'ril said as he clapped the boy on the shoulder and gave him a gentle push
towards the classroom.
