Description: Zariah makes her first rounds of bookmobile deliveries
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 1, day 7 of Turn 12
Zariah was enjoying this bookmobile job. Normal sweeps or messenger runs gave her lots of excuses to visit the halls and holds in Dragonsfall territory, but this gave her an excuse to visit the other Weyrs. Not that she necessarily needed an excuse, but being on a task made it look a little less like she was wandering around gossiping. Even if she did a lot of that, too.
She went over the list for Barrier Lake Weyr. Raush. Greenrider. She managed to spot a candidate and asked for any help in finding Raush. The candidate actually did give her some directions, but seemed to find it very amusing when Zariah asked what this Raush woman looked like.
Which made a lot more sense when she actually found _him_. "Um, are you Raush? You had a book order?"
Raush's eyes lit up with wonder and excitement.
"It worked!" He was not entirely sure why he was surprised, but it was such a novel thing. "Yes, thank you!"
Zariah looked amused, "First order, I assume? Well this is my first round of deliveries, too, but it seems like a simple enough process." She started fishing through her bag to find the correct book. "Yours, I think?"
"Yup, that's it!" For a moment, Raush considered asking about the process for becoming a delivery flier himself, but he was already sacrificing sleep to get any reading done as it was. Still, there was always room for curiosity. "How did you get this gig, anyway?"
Checking that delivery off her list, Zariah looked up, a little surprised at the question, "There was a notice up that the Printer Hall was looking for some dragonriders to make deliveries. The pay isn't great, but it's more fun than normal delivery runs, and I don't think books can ever leak on Relsath." Grinning, she added, "We had a disastrous wine delivery once."
"It's out at Emerald Falls, innit?" Raush stroked his chin and pondered. "I probably never would have gotten around to visiting. So it's nice not to have to wait for some caravan to happen by with the right books."
"And I'm glad you don't have to scrub wine off of that beautiful hide." He chuckled.
"Yeah. I assume they're still working on routes and collecting volunteers- my list has us hopping halfway around the continent today." She seemed excited by that, however. "I haven't been here in a while, though. It was a good excuse. Oh," she pulled out another list. "I have a list of the books for next month, if you want to place an order. Some spicy new Weyr romances hitting next month."
"Ooh, don't mind if I do..." Raush took the list and perused the titles. "You wouldn't happen to have read any advance copies, would you?"
"I haven't, but," she leaned over and pointed to one, "I've read other books by that writer, and they were good. The last book was about a greenrider with a pair of firelizards who solves mysteries. Only a little spicy, but fun."
"Oh, that does sound fun! I should get those, too," said Raush. "When I can afford them."
"Well, unless you keep that one, you can just swap it out next month," Zariah pointed out, "you only have to buy it if you don't give it back. Or damage it. No klah stains. You stain it, you buy it."
"Brilliant!" This was wonderful news. "Well, then, I'd better make sure I get this one read and ready to send back. Stainless, of course." He would have to be sure not to leave it on the desk or table, but it should be safe on the nightstand.
"You want me to put you down for that one for next time, then? I think it'll be around this time next month. Maybe they'll do it more often when they get more volunteers, but I'm going to be making the rounds once a month," Zariah sounded pleased. Eventually she'd probably get bored of this, but for now it was new and fun.
"Please, do!" Raush looked as pleased as she sounded. "I'll look forward to seeing you again."
"See you next time, and you'll have to tell me how that book was," Zariah agreed cheerfully. "Now I'm off. The bookdragon has many stops."
