Gautrek smiled broadly as he approached the Lord Holder. It was a
beautiful spring day, the garden provided a lovely backdrop, and he
had high hopes for this event. "Well, sir, I'm going to say a word
and then if you will be so good as to offer an official greeting to
our guests, we will get started," the Vintner suggested to Zathris.
"Of course, Gautrek. Thank you for helping to coordinate this." Of
course, Zathris would extend his thanks to his Headwoman as well since
without her it wouldn't have happened. "I'm sure this will be an
enjoyable event."
Stepping to the center table, Gautrek gently tapped a glass with a
piece of cutlery to gain attention, "Ladies and gentlemen," he said
projecting his voice. "Thank you for coming to sample the newest
releases from our Hall. We would like to thank Lord Zathris for
hosting and Lady Rethisa for helping to organize this event. We are
also indebted to Amber Hills Headwoman, Zelanka, who was also
instrumental in helping with arrangements for today's wine tasting.
As I know you came to taste and not listen to a lecture, I will not
give you the details of each wine here today but please ask a vintner
if you have a question, there are many of us here today. Lord
Zathris, would you care to say a word?"
Rethisa was in a dress of deep blue, complimentary to her eyes and
platinum hair, which had been intricately braided and woven down her
back, past her shoulder blades. A smile wreathed her face as she
waited for her brother to address the waiting crowd that had gathered.
She was pleased that things were seemingly going off without a hitch.
Within the crowd, Chupsin's face could be seen clearly. Well
remembering the tainted wine that had felled Karhal, he had made
personally sure there wouldn't be anything like that this time. He was
also prepared. Tourniquet's eyes whirled a happy green as he rode on
his shoulder and the healer turned to see who else was around while
standing next to Keayd.
Keayd shifted nervously from foot to foot. Standing still long times
was painful for him. Besides that, he had plenty of reason to be
nervous and excited. While the main attention was on wines, some of
his fruit brandy-experiments were also available for tasting. They
were more dessert variety. His stomach felt like it had swarm of vtols
inside.
Geirlene stood at his side and squeezed Key's arm encouragingly. She
knew the journeyman was nervous about his brandies. For her own part,
the young woman of sixteen turns was very excited to be attending her
first adult social event. It was so kind of Key to offer to be her
escort while Uncle Gautrek was greeting the guests. Very proud of her
uncle who looked quite dapper today in his fine blue gray gather
clothes, she smiled as she watched him address the crowd. Dressed in
a new creamy yellow gown embroidered with tiny green vines, her golden
hair swept up atop her head with some left trailing down her back,
Geirlene felt as if she were in a Harper's tale.
G'nir stood among to invited guests. The both leaders of the Weyr were present.
The presence of the Dragonsfall Weyrleader did not go unnoticed,
neither did the presence of the black haired woman that stood some
paces behind him. Saibra wore a more conservatively cut dress than she
would have at the Weyr, with her long hair twisted up into soft curls
that flowed down over her shoulders. Getting out and mingling with the
"important" people was what Saibra most enjoyed about her job as
Weyrwoman and she looked forward to getting to know the Amber Hills
inhabitants better.
Zelanka was keeping one eye on her staff doing the serving and the
other one at the formal proceedings. The Headwoman had put lot of work
into this too and wanted it to be a success. Rethisa had handled the
planning and main responsibility was hers, but Zelanka and her staff
were the ones who had put it together.
Benani stood on the platform with Camnae alert at her side. She was
nervous and wouldn't be mingling but both she and her husband felt it
important she be seen whole and healthy at his side. She smiled
encouragement at Rethisa.
The sight of his wife as she finally arrived and then stood beside him
brightened Zathris' face with a smile. Gingerly, he reached around to
encircle her with a protective arm, grateful she'd set aside her fears
to attend. It was another sign of her healing.
Flashing a smile back at her sister-in-law, Rethisa thought how
fitting Benani looked beside of Zathris, looking the part of handsome
Lord and beautiful Lady.
Demir stood in the crowd drinking in the beauty of the Lady in the
deep blue dress. He smiled enjoying the view.
Catching Demir's eye from across the room, Rethisa's cheeks heated.
She was glad that he had accepted his invitation and traveled from
Hidden Meadows to join them for the wine tasting. It was also a
convenient excuse to see one another again. Demir's visits were
something that Rethisa had come to look forward to, even the idea of
commitment did make her quake.
Mirdella stood right behind her brother with her husband. It was nice
to get away from home and without the children too. She leaned a bit
to Inarys' shoulder and he wrapped his arm around her. It was very
important to her to show people that they were a happy couple.
The torch had been passed to him, so Zathris stepped up to the
forefront, though a little hesitant, as if he didn't wish to leave
Benani's side. Although she was improved, the Lady was still
recovering from the various events that had transpired over the last
few months, not to mention the birth of his newest child. Still, he
hoped she would have the energy and desire to truly explore the first
large event since she had been taken.
"Thank you to those who have put forth the time and energy to organise
this tasting. Now I don't know about you, but I feel that our own
Vintner Hall has some fine vintages that rival Benden's. If you don't
believe me, then this will certainly give you the opportunity to test
that theory out for yourselves. In addition to the wine, a fine fare
is offered to ease the noise of your stomachs. Let the tasting begin
- everyone, enjoy!" With that, he swept his arms to the tables spread
out, many with wine, many with food, all waiting for those who had
come to partake.
