Berenziah

Barenziah

"So this is my weyr." It was nothing special. As a brownrider,
Z'lred got one of the nicely sized weyrs, though not the biggest by
far. Still, it was just him and there was plenty of room for another
person. "You can stay with me until we get quarters settled down for
you. If you want that is. If not, I can ask a couple of female
friends if you'd prefer to stay with them." He tossed aside his
jacket and the piece of clothing clung to the back of the couch
briefly before sliding to a heap on the floor.

He wasn't so messy that vtols and other insects took up residence, but
it was obvious he was used to leaving stuff around. A pair of pants
hung limp over the
back of the chair which had been pulled halfway out of his desk. A
blanket was rumpled in the seat of the couch rather than folded
neatly, and the chair was piled high with more than its share of throw
pillows. Cups that had once contained water sat about, three of them
on the small table that was nestled between chair and couch. While
Dolphin Cove wasn't known for being particularly cold, some nights did
require a fire and an ebony, plush fur lay before a cold, empty fire
place.

Barenziah was a bit surprised by the messy state inside Z'lred's weyr,
but she bit back any sort of comment. The brownrider was being
incredibly accommodating as it was, taking her to the Weyr and giving
he shelter until she got on her feet. Soon she would have to visit the
Headwoman at Dolphin Cove and see what sort of position she could
fill. Oh how tongues at the Hold would wag if they knew she was
staying in a brownrider's weyr.

"Here is fine. Thank you again. I will work for my keep." Her blue
eyes did a sweep of his weyr. She could clean and straighten up, it
was obvious the man needed help with that.

Z'lred opened his mouth to comment about exactly_how_ she could work
for her keep, but he quickly shut it. Considering what had just
happened to her, he knew she wouldn't find it the least bit funny. Of
course, if she was ever interested, he wouldn't refuse, but he doubted
that would happen. "Don't worry about it, any friend of Zathris' is a
friend of mine. You can have my bed, I'll crash on the couch."

The redhead held up her hands, "Oh no, I couldn't take your bed from
you. The couch will be fine for me, I promise." Her blue eyes swept
over his figure, "I think you would end up cramped on the couch." As
if that were settled she put her hands on her hips and looked about,
"Where should I put my things?"

"In there." Without hesitation, Z'lred tugged one bag, then a second
and threw it over his shoulder before he strode out of the main area
and into his bedroom.

Apparently he had not been listening at all to her when she had said
she would take the couch. Barenziah followed Z'lred, still in her
traveling dress that she had
worn from the Hold. She had packed rather light, because she knew that
many of the elegant dresses and things that she had worn at Amber
Hills would be out of place at the Weyr. **I can finally wear pants in
public without hiding!** The thought was at least a little ray of
sunshine in her otherwise gloomy world.

"Thank you." She murmured, setting her other bags down. She hesitated
for a moment, and then hooked Z'lred with a stare, "You know I am
going to clean this place up right? It's a wher's den in here."

She'd carried in the other two bags which meant he didn't have to.
Z'lred shrugged. "Long as you don't put things where I can't find
them, sure. A drudge usually comes in every sevenday or so." He let
his gaze run over her form a couple of times. "You, however, are a
far cry from any drudge."

Barenziah cocked her eyebrow at Z'lred's tone, but she didn't blush as
she might have. Her emotions were still too bruised, "That's right, I
am." She lifted her chin.

"Don't worry, I won't forget." He grinned, unable to help himself
completely, but pressed on to a different subject. "You hungry? I
can show you around the Weyr and we can swing by the Dining Cavern."

"Let me change into something lighter," Barenziah pulled at the thick
material of her clothes, "and then I would love to grab something to
eat." Shooing Z'lred out of his own bedroom, Barenziah turned and dug
out her thin, strapless blue summer dress. It was the lightest thing
she owned. She had only worn it when she was out exploring the meadows
in the summer with Rynthian.

Once she was changed into the dress and a pair of sandals, she left
the bedroom, "Well? Aside from the porcelain skin, do I fit in a
little better now?" The only downside of going to Dolphin Cove was
that she was sure her pale skin would freckle and burn.

"Darlin', you look like you belong on the stage." A broad grin spread
over Z'lred's features and he nodded approvingly. "Very nice. You
should wear that often."

A smile spread across her face at the unexpected compliment, "Thank
you! I will have to look into getting some 'Weyr clothes' soon."

"You can talk to a weaver if you like or I can take you to a Gather
somewhere to pick out some things. You just let me know." Z'lred
offered a bow and his elbow. "Shall I escort you around the Weyr my
lady?"

Barenziah inclined her head to him as she put her hand in the crook of
his elbow, "A Gather sounds wonderful actually." Something to keep her
cheered up. She had to make this her new life. No looking back at
Amber Hills and what she had left behind.

"Southern Bowl's having theirs next rest day. I can take you if you
like. Until then, we can check storage and see if there's anything
you want to tide you over til you can get clothes specifically for
your tastes." If she continued to pick clothes like that blue dress,
Z'lred would have to say she had good taste indeed. He might have
suggested she looked better _without_ the dress, but once again, the
bronzerider bit his tongue. "Come on, I'm sure you're starving."
With that, he guided her out of the weyr.
