"Headwoman Chaysea?" the man of the couple asked as he approached the slim,
brown-haired woman who had been pointed out to them as the Weyr's Headwoman.

Chaysea's world had been flipped upside down ever since the Hatching. The
clean-up, getting the new Weyrlings prepared with all of the supplies that they
would need, and then all of her regular duties with the Candidates that still
remained, and the kitchens, and the Lower Caverns workers and.... Just thinking
about the list made her feel overwhelmed.

The sound of her name brought her head up, and she tucked her clipboard beneath
her arm, "That's me," her eyes glanced to his shoulder, "what can I do for you
Master....?" She trailed off so he could fill in his name.

"Taine, and this is my weyrmate Rayche, Tahirath's rider. We've just arrived
from Dragonsfall - Rayche as a transfer and I've been employed on the Weyr
upgrade project."

Chaysea smiled, "It is a pleasure to meet you both. If you want to come with me
to my office I can get you settled into a Weyr."

Taine looked around the cavern as they followed the Headwoman, his dark eyes
noting which parts were natural and which had been worked to serve the functions
the Weyr required.

He had visited the Weyr only once before and then been astounded by the beauty
of the broken-sided volcanic caldera which sat right on the shoreline so that
the Weyrbowl appeared to be a continuation of the sandy beach. Now his thoughts
had turned more to rock types and structure.

Taking her key ring from her belt, Chaysea unlocked her office door and led the
way inside, "Please have a seat." She gestured to the two chairs in front of her
desk as she sat down and took out her maps of the Weyr, and the different
diagrams of weyrs and rooms. "You will need something with stair access," that
was a given since Taine was not a dragonrider, "and do you have any children
that will be joining you in your weyr or will it just be the two of you?"

"I have two daughters who will come here if suitable foster mothers can be found
for them," Rayche said. "They won't be living with us."

"I can line up some meetings with foster mothers for you if you would like?"
Chaysea suggested, looking up at Rayche.

"That would be good. There's no particular rush. My family is at Dragonsfall so
they can stay there until the right families are found for them here. They are
eleven and five and they haven't been raised together so that's not a requirement."

Chaysea jotted down the information on her clipboard, "Perfect. I will get back
with you on that then." Coming from the Hold she didn't really understand how
people left behind their children, but she had come to accept that dragonriders
were cut from a different cloth.

"I have this lower mid-level weyr open," she whirled the map around so they
could see and pointed to it. "You would have to climb some stairs to reach it,
but it does afford you the view of the ocean and you're not far from the other
crafters' quarters." He would only have to retrace his steps down the stairs and
make a left.

"North-facing," Taine commented. "How hot does it get here in the summer?"

"Very," Rayche said. "Why?"

"North-facing weyrs will get the most sun - and if this is winter ..."

"You'll have to do the extra walking if we get something on the seaward arm."

"I'm not exactly past being able to totter across the Weyrbowl," he informed her
with a grin which she returned. To the headwoman he said: "Is there anything
available over on the seaward side of the Weyr. On the inside."

Chaysea nodded, "Yes, most people just prefer the seaside," she said with a
smile. "I do have some weyrs available on the seaward side but facing the Weyrbowl."

Rayche nodded her acceptance at her weyrmate.

"I think that would be best - especially while we acclimatise to the change in
temperatures. I don't mind if I have another flight of stairs ... or two."

"I'll put you right here then. It's a little smaller than the first weyr, but it
should fit two just fine." Chaysea assured them.

Rayche took note of the location form the perspective of flying into it while
her weyrmate counted stairs and corridors and doors to make sure he could find
it. "Will it be furnished?" the greenrider asked. Invariably weyrs had beds in
them simply because they were too difficult to move in and out of the riders
quarters but that might be all there was. In the short-term they could leave
their gear packed in the travel baskets that were presently slung on Tahirath's
harness.

"Every room comes with the bed, of course, a wardrobe and a trunk for storage.
There is also a table and a couple of wooden chairs for eating. That is about
the basics. Anything else you need I can get for you from the storage rooms."
Chaysea actually enjoyed digging through the storage rooms in search of items
for people.

"That sounds plenty to get us started," Rayche agreed with relief. "If you'll
excuse me now I would like to get our gear off Tahirath and let her get settled
in. Taine can give you any of my or the girls' details you need."

Chaysea gave a nod to Rayche as the greenrider departed and then turned her eyes
back to the crafter, "So your daughters. I just need the basics- names, ages,
and parents."

"Rayche's own parents are brownrider B'renn and lower caverns worker Teiva. Her
eldest daughter is Tahvey -" he spelt it out for the headwoman, "- is eleven and
her father is bronzerider P'radan. The youngest is, Pia, is five, and she has
three possible fathers - bronzerider M'kellen, bluerider C'ait, or healer Thias."

**Geez. Are any of her kids _his_?** Chaysea could not help but wonder as she
jotted down the information. **_Three_ possible fathers?** The Headwoman's
hallbred nature was nearly bent in two at the thought of such promiscuity.
"Thank you, that is all I need. It was a pleasure meeting you Master Taine."

"And you, Headwoman." Taine left the office with a smile on his face. At some
stage he would have to give the headwoman his own parents' names and he had the
feeling that it would be better doing so after she had forgotten the names of
Pia's possible fathers, since that alone had clearly given her pause and made
him wonder if she was, perhaps, not weyrbred. If Pia's uncertain paternity had
been a worry to her then it was not time to admit that the girl might well be
his half-sister as his father was one of those who might have fathered Rayche's
youngest.

Taine shrugged the thoughts away to head out into the late afternoon sunshine
and off on his first walk across the Weyrbowl to their new home.
