New Steps in the Dance

Writers: Avery, Heather
Date Posted: 12th August 2014

Characters: Chaysea, L'pin
Description: Dancing at the Hatching Feast leads to a little more.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 8, day 12 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: R'enh, Alina, Cyradis, K'deren

She had already danced with R'enh, as she had promised she would when
they went to the Gather together. As usual the bronzerider had been an
excellent dance partner, and she had left the floor winded, her cheeks
flushed, her eyes bright and lively as she headed for the refreshment
table and a cup of wine. As she brought the cup of wine to her lips
she met L'pin's steady gaze over the rim, and she smiled.

**There he is. About time.** She knew the bluerider had been helping
with the new Weyrlings, but she was glad to see that he was finally at
the feast.

L'pin had finished settling Alina and checking on the weyrlings, then
dashed to his weyr to change for the feast. He was wearing plain black
trousers and a fitted Gather tunic of slate grey which had a knotwork
pattern embroidered on the ends of the sleeves in blue thread. It was the
nicest thing he owned.

He saw Chaysea and his breath caught as his feet started in her
direction. She was lovely, and he hoped she would honor him with a
dance. "How has the event treated you so far?" he asked when he saw
her.

She had forgone her usual color- black- and was wearing a dark blue
dress that complimented her chestnut hair and tan complexion. It
secretly pleased her that she and L'pin had unintentionally matched.

"Mmm, it's been good. Much better now that you are here though." She smiled.

He gave her a warm smile in return. "You're positively radiant today.
Look, I even dressed up." He knew how to, sometimes.

Chaysea reached out and skimmed her fingers over his tunic with a
smile, "I noticed. You look very handsome, bluerider. You should dress
up more often."

"Everything looks marvelously laid out. Your staff must be exhausted
when it's all over."

Her hands remained on the front of his tunic, pressed lightly to the
flat planes of his chest, "When it is over? We're exhausted right now,
but the wine is good fuel." Chaysea winked, and then added, "I am
trying to not think of all the work it will take getting this place
cleaned up."

"If I may make a suggestion, that's for your staff to handle afterwards.
You deserve a good break." Mostly because he had things in mind...
assuming her staff, or young dragonets, didn't interfere.

He leaned in and kissed her cheek. "Hopefully enough energy for at least
one dance?"

A warmth crept over her body at L'pin's proximity, and Chaysea found
herself consideration the man's suggestion, especially if taking a
good break involved him. "For you? Always." She reached down for his
hand and linked their fingers together.

"Excellent. I would hate to think I missed out on the best possible partner."

"Flattery. A good choice." Chaysea winked as they stepped out onto the
dance floor together. She had danced with several men already, mostly
because she really did enjoy dancing, but this was the dance she had
looked forward to the whole night.

"Would a Harper make idle flattery? Truth only tonight, m'lady," he said
with the other hand over his heart.

Chaysea put her left hand on L'pin's shoulder, "I have missed you."
She admitted. The days leading up to the Hatching had been hectic and
busy, and now the days ahead of them were guaranteed to be the same.

"And I, you. I'll be sure to ensure open time on my restdays." And there
were two other Weyrlingstaff - he was just the Third...

"And I will do the same." She looked up into his eyes as they danced,
"Although, my door is open any time you would like to come by."

He let his hand rest against the small of her back. "That's good to know.
Sometimes I wish I had still been just a wingrider when we met - I'd have
more time."

Chaysea could not describe how good L'pin made her feel about herself.
Dothran had never done that. Shells, not even her family had made her
feel good about herself. She recalled Chupsin's words about how she
had disgraced the family by moving to Dolphin Cove.

"More time would be nice." She agreed.

"We'll figure something out. Even the Weyrleaders have time for a personal
life."

That was certainly true, given the fact that their Weyrwoman had given
birth that night. Then again, the Weyrwoman was weyrmated so she could
see K'deren every night. Maybe that could work for her and L'pin at
some point... She wondered how long it would take them to get to the
point of weyrmating.... **Or having sex.** The hint of a blush stole
across her cheeks at the thought. She had never really thought of sex
with longing before meeting L'pin.

He had no idea what she was thinking about, just pulled her closer during
the dance. He was facing the harpers when the music came to a close, and
caught the signal from a friend he knew. "The next one's going to be a
slow dance, interested?"

Chaysea moved in closer to him, "Of course I am." A chance to be held by
L'pin? She couldn't pass that up.

"Let's light up the floor," he said.

Chaysea was tired but incredibly happy as she leaned against L'pin as
they walked to her weyr. The feast had gone off without a hitch and
she had left others behind on clean up duty.

He'd had a decent amount of food, a few glasses of wine, and enough
dancing that he knew his legs would be tired tomorrow. He'd graced many
friends with dances, but always he'd come back to the lovely Headwoman.
Now he was taking her home.

If she was weyrbred, he knew how this would end; making out like teenagers
on the couch, then drifting to her bed. But though she'd been willing and
pleased every time they'd touched before, he still felt a twinge of
reluctance, a fear of hurting her.

"May I come in?" he asked as they reached her door.

"You don't even have to ask." Chaysea said as she opened the door to
her weyr and led him inside.

He followed her in, then swept her into a kiss. "I told you you were
radiant tonight, yes?"

"I believe it was mentioned." She breathed against his lips, her body
melting into his.

He was bolder and more adventuroustonight, his hands skimming down

her body and his mouth demanding on hers. They were soon at the couch,
where he switched to kissing his way down her neck and shoulders.
L'pin hesitated with his hand on one shoulder. "I'd like to move
things a little further," he said, fingers toying at the edge of her
dress.

A flutter of nervousness erupted in her stomach but she nodded, her
voice a bit breathless as she replied, "Okay."

He fiddled with her dress and exposed her chest, gently stroking her skin
with his fingers before applying his mouth to her tender flesh. He stayed
attentive to her responses, but they seemed positive, and soon he found
himself wanting to go even farther.

At first Chaysea felt insecure. What if L'pin did not like what he
saw? She was sure she was not the first woman he had ever seen before.
Even though she had a curvy figure and a trim waistline, she did not
have the same tightened musculature as dragonrider women.

"You really are beautiful," he said again as he ran his hands over her
chest, gently stroking before applying his mouth as well. It hadn't been
so long that he didn't remember what to do for a woman.
