Moments later, D'ale gave the signal and Cyan wing followed Azure into

the skies. Dragons ranked in orderly fashion as the wing rose into

position below and behind the Weyrleader's wing.

Ma'din followed D'ale, never wavering in his position.

This was what he relished; the fight, the activity.

Pulling herself up to Kjarliheth's back, Aileyan clasped her straps

closed. The Queen's wing would be last in the air.

As the entire Weyr rose into the air, R'axe drummed his fingers on his

thigh, a nervous twitch he had developed whenever he was waiting. He

watched as the Weyrleader's Wing blinked /between/ and then he

followed his own Wingsecond's command to /between/ as well.

When they arrived over the territory, the leading edge of fall was

clearly visible, and Jayth shuddered with anticipation, his eyes

whirling rapidly as their ancient enemy approached. In formation

beside of them, Devyn gave one last adjustment to her helmet and

goggles, and then they flew out to meet the falling Thread.

Fanth grumbled as T'bel re-adjusted his seat when they came out of

/between/. **Sorry love, you know how it is. I just want to make sure I'm on

secure.**

Rorela followed /between/ coming out in precise position and scanning the

skies. Upinth gave a shrill bugle as she sighted the Thread and immediately

flung her head back to demand a lump of firestone. Rorela wasted no time and

within moments, the stone was chewed. Stomach rumbling, Upinth dipped and

belched a impressive gout of flame, searing a falling clump of the tangling

Thread with satisfaction. }: More! :{

In the other wing, Ma'din's sharp eyes were already scanning the

surroundings. The steady beat of Aznith's wings seemed to match his breath

and the pair became one mind as the Thread began to fall over their wing.

This was the best part. Harki grinned into the wind, feeling as if her

face might split in two as the leading edge approached, then overtook

them. A silver curtain, wriggling and alive, and deadlier than

anything on Pern. She loved it, and both her and her dragon felt more

alive with char, Thread and flame around them than anything else.

Galerith shuddered when he spotted the age old enemy he was born to

burn from the sky. Both he and Sh'lua soon fell into the familiar

rhythm of Thread Fight, born after many, many Falls. Feed firestone,

flame, duck, flame, more firestone, flame, weave out of the way, keep

an eye on wing mates.

C'lar had gotten used to the slightly slower pace of flying in the

queen's wing, and he felt like there were too many Threads to count.

But Ladrith's flame was steady as he tore through the clumps of

Thread, and the brown sent back wordless confidence.

Dragonflame gouted from the mouths of hundreds of dragons and the age

old battle was in full swing. D'ale's head was almost on a swivel as

he fed firestone to Torerath and ordered his wing's formation tucking

the greens in a little tighter on the edges.

Aileyan and Kjarliheth were doing their duty when Aileyan felt pain

her abdomen. It felt like someone had pushed a dagger into her

belly..or like menstrual pain times ten. Kjarliheth felt her pain but

she couldn't tell a difference between the pain from Thread Score or

other kind pain. Think it was Thread, she took them /between/. It just

made it worse. **Home!** Aileyan managed to cling to the thought. With

quick word to Onnyth, Kjarliheth blinked out and reappeared above the

Weyr plateau.

Having pulled out of the wings when the injuries began to mount,Tavia

was waiting with the healers on the top of the plateau where injured

riders usually came. "Aileyan," she called running toward the pair.

Kjarliheth seemed fine but the other woman seemed bad off and slumped

in her saddle. Her fingers worked frantically at the buckles and when

she got them undon the others pulled her from them. "Aileyan," she

said patting her cheeks. "Where it is?"
