A Little Bit Late

Description: L'pin is late to their meeting, but Chaysea forgives him anyway.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 8, day 8 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: R'enh

Thanks to an issue with the candidates, he'd worked over a candlemark
later than he'd meant to, and by the time he stopped by Chaysea's
office, she was gone. He sighed and headed back to his weyr first.
Maybe he could meet her at the Dining Cavern...or maybe she had
something better to do with her night than wait for an old bluerider
who stood her up.

Chaysea had waited for a while in her office to see if L'pin would
stop by. Finally she had swung by the kitchens and grabbed a plate of
dinner to take back to her weyr. She changed into a short nightgown,
shorter than anything she would ever wear in public, well above her
knees, and then sat cross legged on her bed with her plate of food to
eat.

The silence was nearly deafening but she had spent many evenings alone
since Dothran's death so she thought little of it.

He changed out of his stained clothes into a clean pair of pants and
tunic, then checked the Dining Cavern. No Chaysea, though a serving
assistant did inform him that he had seen her take a plate, which gave
him the clue he needed.

He knocked on her door and waited for an answer.

Chaysea never received visitors to her weyr and he had an inkling of
who it was. Throwing on a knee length cotton robe, because it was too
hot for anything more, Chaysea opened the door.

"Hey," she smiled at L'pin, "come in."

"I am so sorry I didn't get to see you earlier," he began sheepishly
as he entered the weyr. "I meant to, but it's getting busy and we're
making decisions on who's allowed to Stand and... "

"It's okay. I was just eating in here. Sometimes if I eat in the
Dining Cavern people want to come to me with work related issues." She
shook her head, "So I hide out in here." She close the door behind
L'pin.

"I understand," he said with a small laugh. He hesitated, then took a
place in a chair. "How have you been? Haven't seen you much lately, it
feels like."

"Good, busy with preparations for the hatching and feast." And
accommodating the guests that would be coming as well. Chaysea looked
at him in his chair before saying, "Join me on the couch?" She smiled
a little and sat down on it, her hand patting the cushion beside hers.

"We're both going to be so busy on Hatching day," he murmured, before
obediently coming over to sit by her. He rested his hand next to her
before continuing. "Have you done anything fun?"

Her eyebrows quirked as she looked up at him a smile playing on her
lips, "What counts as fun?"

"Anything not work?" he guessed.

She did a lot of work, Chaysea realized as she tried to think over
everything that she had done since they had last spoken, which had
been the surprise dinner he had planned for her, "Oh! I went to a
Gather up in Igen. Does that count?"

"Oh? Who'd you go with?" That kind of distance required transport. "Did
you get anything nice?"

"I went with R'enh," she said. She shook her head as his other
question, "I was way more interested in spending my money on food and
drink than trinkets." She grinned a little at that. Thanks to the
death of her late husband, she did have a nice little nestegg of marks
that she kept locked away. She didn't spend it on frivolous things
like Gathers though.

"Did you enjoy what you saw? I've never been to that area," he admitted.
"Anything tasty?"

Chaysea nodded, "It was beautiful, and they had my favorite roasted
nuts," she closed her eyes a bit as if she could still taste them.
Looking back at L'pin she grinned, "Sadly, I have already eaten them
all over the course of the past few days or I would offer you some."

"What kind are they?" he asked, wondering if he could get her anything.

"How do you and R'enh get along?"

"Roasted pecans." She told him, and then, "Yes, R'enh and I get along
fine. He has been very nice to me." For whatever reason the
bronzerider seemed to have taken an interest in at least being her
friend.

"Oh, that's good." He wondered if R'enh felt anything else, but it
wasn't really his business, was it? "It can be really isolating with
no friends,
so it's good to have some. You're doing better than some of the
candidates," he joked.

"Ha. Ha." Chaysea said, shoving his shoulder playfully as she rolled
her eyes. The Headwoman slid closer to L'pin so that she could lean
against him a bit, "You can relax a little you know. I am supposed to
be the holdbred chaste Headwoman here."

He wrapped an arm around her. "I think there were some lessons I have to
teach you..."

"Oh? Like what?" She asked, snuggling in to his side.

He touched her face gently and lifted it towards his, then leaned down and
kissed her mouth thoroughly as his response.

Chaysea melted against the bluerider. She supposed she didn't have
anything to measure L'pin against but to her he was a great kisser and she
looked forward to these moments with him the most.

The combination of natural physical responses and his feelings for her
were intense, and soon he had one arm around her, stroking the back of her
neck gently. "How far would you be comfortable with going?"

She searched his eyes for a moment, "I will let you know if I need to
stop. Deal?" All Chaysea knew was that she wasn't quite ready to leave
L'pin's embrace just yet. She trusted him.

"Deal," he said, and kissed her once again.
