Kapera

Kapera was idling by the weyrlake, debating whether to go out onto the
beach and take a walk, or seek out company inside the weyr. She wanted
company - but not some company - not when these strange feelings were
being complicated inside of her. There was what she desired to do, and
what she felt she should do. And they were so far apart.

Lost in thought, she didn't notice anyone else nearby.

Jeyme was trying to take D'hol's advice and make some friends other
than Talryne. Since that friendship had obviously gone sour. She had
enjoyed the conversations she had experienced with Kapera in the past,
and they were in the same Wing so it would make since to befriend one
another. When she saw the goldrider alone and by the weyrlake, Jeyme
seized the opportunity.

"Kapera," she smiled, "can I join you? Apparently exercise is good for
pregnant people."

"Go ahead," the goldrider said, trying to put on her best smile. "Is it
going well so far?"

"All is well this time." Jeyme said with a happy smile. She had nearly
stopped worry that she would miscarry this one, but was still
incredibly cautious. Still, the healers had said that walking would do
her good and tone muscles she would need for the labor and delivery.

"Congratulations. You let me know if you need any adjustments in your
duties." Kapera wouldn't want to see her hurt.

"So how are you and D'hol doing?"

Jeyme tucked her hair behind her ears to keep the wind from whipping
it around her face, "All is well. He has been very different ever
since I got pregnant. Like, he'll almost do anything for me." She
glanced at Kapera and winked, "I may or may not be using that to my
advantage, just a little. Got to use it while it lasts."

Her lips twitched in understanding. "Hopefully he'll still feel that way
afterwards. Men can get very protective - especially bronzeriders. It's
very much a case of like rider, like dragon."

"He is already protective... _and_ possessive..." Jeyme winked, "But I
like it so I shan't complain. What about you? What is happening in
goldrider-land?"

"Promise you won't tell anyone?" She liked the idea of a female friend to
gossip with.

She didn't have any friends to tell but she didn't want to sound
pathetic so she settled for, "My lips are sealed!"

"Have you met J'nus yet? New transfer, bronzerider, older..." Shepaused to
let Jeyme think. "I knew him at Dragonsfall. Like, _knew_."

Jeyme thought for a moment, "Yeah, I have seen him around." She
glanced over at Kapera, "You got a thing for him then?"

She focused on walking for a minute. "I liked him," she finally admitted.
"We were so different, but something about him just drew me. But I was
irresponsible, self-centered...And then I got sick and left and never saw
him again." And she hadn't wanted him to see her.

Sometimes opposites attracted, after all, she and D'hol were quite
different in a lot of ways, "And does he want to rekindle things now?"

"I don't know if he does. I don't know if I do." That was a lie. She did.

"Did you ever dislike yourself as a person?"

"Yes." Jeyme said quietly, thinking back to those days after her
parents had disowned her. She had hated everything she had become. The
quiet, do-as-you-are-told, good for only marriage, girl from a small
minor hold. That was when she had chopped off all her hair, thrown
away her skirts and dresses, and fully committed herself to Weyrlife.

"I was young and stupid and I wasn't fit to be Weyrwoman," the goldrider
confessed in a near whisper. "Getting hurt was the best thing that
happened to me."

Jeyme released a little sigh, "Yes, sometimes it takes a serious event
in our lives to make us see things differently." She glanced out at
the Weyrlake as they walked, and then back at Kapera, "You are
different now?"

"I hope so," she said. "I think Cyradis is an amazing example to live up
to, and I wish someone like her had trained me."

Ah yes, the perfect Cyradis. Jeyme kept that retort to herself, "Well you
still have your chance. You can learn from her now."

"And maybe train another goldrider better, if any of our queens should lay
one. Riyanth never has - to be honest, I'm a bit glad for that." She would
have ruined the training for sure.

"Is it exciting? Watching your dragon lay eggs and then seeing what they
become?" Jeyme as a greenrider would never quite know that feeling.

"Very much so. I imagine it must be somewhat like you're feeling now," the
goldrider said with a nod. "They're holding something wonderful, but
you don't quite
know until they come out."

Jeyme ran a hand over her baby bump, "Whatever I am carrying better come
out the spitting image of D'hol." Apparently N'vanik and Talryne were already
upset by her decision to side with D'hol and not let the Weyrleader be
apart of the
pregnancy.

"Slightly crotchety?" she teased, unaware of the tensions.

Jeyme laughed, imagining a baby with a furrowed brow like D'hol, "Yes,
crotchety is good as long as it has his eyes and hair." And his nose
and his jawline...
Anything to prove it belonged to D'hol. "Nine months seems incredibly long,
especially with how slow these last couple have passed."

"But at least there's something to look forward to." Assuming it all went
well. "There's still some time when you can have fun, yes?"

"Yes, I have not been as sick recently, I am hoping that lasts from
now to till the baby is born. And of course, pregnancy does cause you
to.." Jeyme raised her eyebrows, "'be in the mood' more and, as you
might imagine, D'hol, or men in general, see nothing to complain about
there."

She grinned. "That works out well for sure. If he lets you out of his
sight for some adventures and you want some girl time, let me know."

"Well, he has told me to get out and make friends, so I think I can
manage a little adventure time." Jeyme smiled, thinking it would be
nice to do something other than sit in her weyr and knit.

"We'll figure out something safe for you and do it. I think I'd like a
girl friend."

Jeyme's eyes lit up, "Oh, and I will knit you a scarf to wear
/between/... and I promise not to make it as hideous as the one I made
D'hol!"
