Tavia was on her way to the creche to pick up Kaiavin when it finally
happened. She felt the rush from Sawauth and knew the green had flung
herself from her ledge with a scream of challenge to the Weyr's males.

"Sorry, she's rising," she told the worker before turning away from
her son who now cried out "Mama" in despair, breaking her heart as
she headed back up to the flightroom. She'd almost made arrangements
for him to stay tonight but thinking that the green would hold another
day she'd decided to come get him as usual. Moments later she arrived.

Aznith was immediately in the air the moment that the green took to the air.
He responded with a strident bellow, flashing brown wings in display. His
rider, Ma'din, made his way to the flight rooms his blue eyes intent as he
waited for the green's rider to appear.

P'nal arrived after Tavia did and found himself searching out a place in the
room. The brownrider wasn't very familiar with this greenrider and he
found himself more at ease because of it. Of course Jodeth was ready,
all systems go. The brown loved chasing greens and was more than often
landing his rider in the mating cots than not.

R'axe heard the scream but kept chewing on the mouthful of fresh
greens he had just forked in. He calmly swallowed and tilted his head
to the side.

}:Sawauth! I shall catch thee!:{ Jayth cried.

R'axe smirked, there it was. He mentally scanned through the list of
greenriders that he knew as he made his way to the flight weyr. When
he stepped in and saw Tavia he smiled. He knew Tavia, they had spent a
very nice time together one evening. R'axe _wanted_ to win this
flight.

D'nev could feel the familar pulse beat increase that meant Shoglenth was
ready to chase another green. The spanner in the rider-technician's
hand was cast on the floor of the workroom, leaving the light switch
he was fixing
behind on a table as he headed for the mating cots.

Nirreth bellowed his reply to green's challenge. **Faranth, can't you
miss a single green flight?** G'nir asked him. The flights broke his
concentration and disturbed his work. Still he complied his dragon's
wish and rushed to the mating cots.

N'klar was busy thinking up a new brew in his weyr when Julerith
bellowed his intention to chase this green. Surprised - it had been
some time since Julerith had went up - N'klar gleefully left his
hidework behind and caught a ride with his blue before his dragon was
off after Sawauth.

**Catch her! We want this one!** N'klar sent, urging on his blue.

J'darin, too, was in the middle of dealing with a particular touchy
situation with a pair of holder bred Candidates and some weyrbrats.

he called for help from one of his assistants and then was racing to
the flight room as Hasaarth growled and set off with the rest of the
mass of males chasing this green. Since Sawauth was new-ish to the
Weyr, no doubt all the males here wanted to claim her!

He knew Tavia and liked her, recalling her help with Ninaine at the
Hatching. And he knew she would be sad losing the reason she came to
Dragonsfall.

He joined the group with a gleam in his eye. Hasaarth had certainly
changed his tune about green flights and chased more than he ever had
at Dolphin Cove.

The sudden flush of lust was getting familiar, but instead of
excitement or amusement, J'kri gave a sigh of relief. He needed a
distraction like this. It didn't matter if Rademerth won or lost, the
emotions of the flight would carry him away for a while. He hurried
down to join the other riders. He didn't know the woman but he caught
sight of R'axe and joined his fellow bluerider. "Hi," he said with a
faint smile, mind foggy as it started to merge with Rademerth.

D'nev could feel Shoglenth as he got ready to chase this green. while he
might not know the rider he was pleased to she that she was female, and he
urged his blue as hard as he could to do his best.

Sawauth screamed her challenge at the gathered males. Then she shot
into the sky and below on the ground Tavia swayed as her mind blended
with her lifemate and they rode and updraft into the clouds.

Jayth flung himself skyward, hot on Sawauth's tail as the rest of the
pack of males followed. The cerulean blue wanted to be close to the
lovely green when she tired.

Julerith was second in the air, right after Jayth. He could feel N'klar's
happiness at his finally chasing a green, and this one in particular seemed
to please him. He strove hard after her, watching her closely. She was
unknown to him. Who knew what kind of tricks she had, even for him, who
had won many, many greens over the turns?

Hasaarth was much slower than the blues, but much larger. His wingbeats
were sure and steady and he hung back, just the outside. He was also
watching her for tricks. She was lovely in the air, and he determined he
would have her! He caught an updraft of his own. catching a break,
while the main mass of dragons sorted themselves out below him. He
would be smart, and watch, and wait.

Unlike Jayth who was rocketing onward, Jodeth simply chose his
position. He needed to watch this green for a bit, learn her. She
wasn't Dragonsfall hatched and he was unsure. The brown didn't seem
bothered by the others, though, staying focused on the female. He
would anticipate her
needs, and override his own, to win in the end.

Nirreth was up in the air too. He used his bulk to push past the smaller
males.

Sawauth swerved to avoid a grasping blue and cast a look over her
shoulder. Her first choices usually tended toward brown but there were
several tempting blues and even a couple of bronzes. She darted
sideways and up into a cloud before plunging down again. Tavia's mind
was fully linked with her green and gloried in the freedom of the sky
and the trails of water vapor from the tips of her wings.

Jayth had not let up since the beginning if the flight. Through dips,
twists and turns he had hung as closely behind Sawauth as possible,
ready for the moment when he could snatch her up.

Rademerth soared after Sawauth, dodging some of the slower males.
}:You are lovely. I am big and strong but also very fast. I am the
best of everything. You should choose me!:{ The blue hadn't yet
mastered the art of flattery.

In the steady way that he had, the brown had easily sidestepped the
young blues. Jodeth was proven and the male certainly had a feeling
that this female needed a steady fall. She was a lovely one, for
certain. Bugling into the sky, he banked right to follow her, wingtips
grasping at the clouds.

Nirreth was enjoying the Chase, enjoying the change to push his flying
skills to the limit. He had plenty of strenght and he was keeping it in
reserve.

Shoglenth knew he could do this, he would win that lovely green, if only he
could get close enough to her...

Julerith was keeping up, but he was a little out of practice chasing
and was just behind. From his position he could dive, though, and
move quickly to catch her when she tired, as he knew she would soon.
Now that he was chasing, he was determined to win.

Hasaarth, on the other hand, had been chasing plenty lately. And
only sometimes winning. Still, he was a bronze and strong. He had
stamina and then some and was not tiring just yet. He moved to below
Nirreth, wanting to snatch this prize from his rival. He could move
quickly past any of the blues, and he saw Jodeth doing something
similar. .. watching and waiting. Which one would she choose?

Sawauth finally began to tire though all the dragons behind her were
getting closer and she knew she'd have to choose soon. Normally it
would be brown so Jodeth appealed to her. But hers had enjoyed flights
with bronze and she considered Nirreth and Hasaarth. Swinging slightly
to place herself into the path of one of the bronzes she miscalculated
slightly and a blue turned with her at the last moment. She struggled
as a blue neck twined with hers and they began to fall.

Rademerth bugled his triumph as he claimed the green. J'kri grabbed
Tavia, kissing her deeply and pulling her toward the flight cot.
Everything else was forgotten.
