"The Weyrwoman's Attendant"

Writers: Avery, Heather
Date Posted: 4th June 2014

Characters: Chaysea, Ikalis
Description: Chaysea "hires" Ikalis to be Cyradis's attendant while she is on bedrest.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 7, day 8 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Cyradis

Ikalis knocked on the door of the Headwoman's office. She hadn't had a
chance to talk personally with Chaysea, and she thought that bringing
fresh-baked pastries with jam filling and some tea would be a good way
of introducing herself.

Chaysea looked up at the knock, "Come in." She called. She was getting
more use to people coming by her office to see her as the Headwoman.
It had taken a bit but Chaysea felt as if she were gradually settling
into the position, especially now that she knew more of the riders on
a first name basis.

"Good morning," Ikalis said as she pushed into the office. She set the
tray down on a clean part of the desk, then extended her hand. "I'm
Ikalis. One of your workers."

"It is a pleasure to meet you Ikalis," she stood and took the woman's
extended hand, "and thank you for the pastries, they look divine.
Please, have a seat and share them with me." Chaysea invited.

"Thank you, ma'am," she said as she sat. It wouldn't do to offend the
new Headwoman right out, so she'd worn a conservative tunic and tried
to sit in a dignified fashion. "How do you like the weather?"

Chaysea took a bite into one of the pastries, lifting her eyebrows in
surprise at how good it was, "I am really liking it," she commented
back, "especially the warmth. L'pin gave me some swimming instructions
so I am getting out into the water more now. It's nice."

"Ah, he's a sweetheart, isn't he?" Ikalis said with a smile. "I know
we're really excited to have you here. If there's anything I can do to
help you settle in, please let me know."

They were excited to have her there? That made Chaysea smile. Everyone
spoke so highly of the job that Qorri had done, she had worried that
she would come up short compared to the last Headwoman. "Well,
actually, the Weyrwoman has tasked me with finding a personal
attendant to help her out around her Weyr while she is on bed rest. Do
you know anyone that you would recommend? Or would you be interested?"

Of course she was interested - Ikalis was an ambitious young woman.
But she didn't want that eagerness to put Chaysea off. "I would love
to do it. I know where everything is and I have experience as a chore
sections leader. If you hadn't asked me, I also would recommend Tabira
or Madorus. They're also responsible and experienced. "

Chaysea smiled, glad that Ikalis seemed interested in the positionl,
"Well, I am glad you are interested in the position because with your
experience I think you would be a great fit to help Cyradis until the
baby is born. I will make a note of it and let the Weyrwoman know."

"Thank you," Ikalis said, bobbing her head up and down rapidly like an
eager small avian. It would be a good step on her resume. "Maybe you
should have Tabira cover my shift leader role?"

The Headwoman jotted down the name, "I will talk with Tabira and see
about that. Thank you for the suggestion." She smiled at Ikalis. "Are
you weyrbred?"

"Yes ma'am. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have."

"Oh, no questions, I was just curious." Chaysea smiled, "That is all I
need, Ikalis, I will let Cyradis know immediately, and thank you for
the sweets."

"Not a problem, ma'am," Ikalis said as she rose to leave, feeling
quite pleased with what she'd accomplished today.
