T'nom

T'nom

As soon as T'nom answered the door, Meledei stormed in, her face red
and her eyes fierce. "I can't believe them!" She fumed as she
stomped over to the couch and flung herself onto it. "Incredible.
Absolutely incredible!"

"Whoa!" T'nom declared as she burst in. She was clearly upset. He
moved over to her and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Meledei what's
wrong?"

"According to Cyradis, the worst thing ever! Evidently it's the end
of Pern!" Meledei threw her hands up in the air. "I can't believe
them. Ugh!"

"What? What happened?" The worst thing ever! T'nom's mind was racing.
Was Thread falling now? Had the Falls changed? Were they all doomed?
He knelt down before her, his hands reaching up to rest on both her
shoulders. He looked into her eyes and tried to steady himself.

"Tell me what's wrong."

"Cyradis. She's upset because Taldeth caught Elleth." Meledei
snorted. "And evidently she has plans to talk to me about it,
according to N'vanik."

He released her shoulders, but he was frowning. "Why is she upset
Taldeth caught Elleth?" T'nom didn't understand. Was there something
he was supposed to have known more about before he and Taldeth chased
the golden queen?

"Because she assumes that a younger bronze catching a gold means a
smaller clutch." Meledei snorted. It was a good flight. A long
flight. It would be a good clutch, of that she was certain.

He got up from the floor and took a seat. T'nom frowned. "Do you think
she's right? Is the fact that Taldeth won Elleth's flight going to
lead to a smaller clutch?" He honestly didn't know. In the time he'd
been at the Weyr a younger bronze hadn't won any of the gold flights.

Meledei paused. "I don't know. It _shouldn't_. It was a long
flight, a good flight, so it _shouldn't_ because of the length of the
flight. Taldeth held in there. But...they seem to think so." She
tilted her chin up, that stubbornness coming out again just like it
had when she had talked to N'vanik. "Even if it is, it will be a good
clutch, that I guarantee."

He took hope from her words. "I wouldn't care if there were only one
egg on the Sands. Taldeth _and_ I are proud of what we accomplished no
matter what. And had we not won then you and I may not have finally
gotten together."

"I agree." Meledei smiled, glad that he was at least looking at it in
a more positive light. "And until she clutches, we won't truly know."

"Right," he agreed with a smile, "And who knows, maybe she'll lay the
largest clutch ever. I mean Taldeth _is_ a rather awesome bronze." He
chuckled a bit at his own bragging, but he did so love Taldeth with
every fiber of his being.

"He is at that. I mean, look at who he caught, the most awesome gold
to ever live." Meledei's face broke into a smile and she reached out
to take T'nom's hand.

He held her hand when she reached for his. He was glad he'd been able
to break through her anger somewhat.

"No matter what happens, Dei, we have each other and we did what we
could." He gave her hand a squeeze.

Meledei nodded. She hoped it wasn't a small clutch. She didn't want
anyone to be disappointed and she certainly didn't want the whispers
to start up again about Elleth - not that there weren't still some
floating around from time to time. But no matter what, she knew that
having T'nom with her would help her deal with it.
