A New Love in Her Life

Writers: Ames, Emma
Date Posted: 18th July 2013

Characters: Ameala, Fitchan
Description: Ameala impresses on the Sands at River Bluff.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 2, day 25 of Turn 7

The Sands were hot on her feet. She was nervous. The summons had come
just a short time ago. Ameala had to rush to get her candidate robe on
and hurry to join the other candidates. She hadn't even been able to
talk to Fitchan.

Now, as she marched out onto the Sands with the others, her eyes
scanned the seated crowd, looking for the face she knew and loved with
all her heart.

Fitchan waved, not knowing whether it was appropriate behaviour or not, but
he wanted Ameala to know that he had seen her and was supporting her.
Although his heart was racing, how would he cope if she left the sands
alone, but then how would he cope if she left with a dragon at her side.
What would it really mean for them, discussion was one thing, but when
things like this happened, nobody knew what they would do.

She was anxious, but when she saw him her anxiety seemed to fade. He
waved and she lifted her arm to wave too. When she got a look from one
of the staff, she lowered her arm back to her side. Before she had
further time to dwell on things the sounds in the room seemed to
intensify. Then suddenly the sound of a cracking shell filled the
space. Her heart hammered as she tried to see what was happening.

Fitchan had seen the gesture, and the look she had got from one of the
staff, he hoped it wouldn't get her into trouble with anyone. But as the
proceedings began it was hard not to be drawn in as suddenly the eggs began
to rock and crack.

She watched as the first dragon found its mate. It wasn't at all what
she had expected. The creature was small and gangly. It's wings seemed
almost stuck to its body. She blinked. It looked so different than the
large dragons she'd started to grow used to.

She waited, watching as more and more dragons hatched and moved
towards the candidates. Some were so awkward they crashed into things
and bumped into candidates, knocking a few to the ground. Yet, none
seemed to come her way. **Perhaps I'm not quite what they are looking
for,** she mused. She wasn't sure if she was disappointed by that or
relieved that her life wouldn't completely change.

But then, just as she'd begun to think that she wasn't really
candidate worthy, she heard a voice.

}:Mine. Help me.:{ She blinked, looking to the boy and girl beside
her. Had one of them asked for help? They were staring straight ahead,
not looking at her.

}:My wing hurts:{ **Wing?** She thought, confused, turning back to the
eggs on the Sands. Her breath caught in her throat. Heading towards
her was a small green dragonet.

}:Please help me,:{ The dragonet said. It's eyes turning right to hers.

She didn't hesitate. She moved forward and kneeling down, gently
loosened the wing which had gotten stuck to the little dragon's back.

She could feel the relief wash over her. Ameala was confused by it
all. She heard more cheers and then the dragonet pushed its head
towards her arms. }:Food. Your Ingoth wants food.:{

"My Ingoth?" Ameala asked looking around her for a moment, before
looking at the dragon. "You are Ingoth?" The dragonet nodded her head
and then asked again for food. }:Hungry:{

Then Fitchan realised it had happened, his Ameala, she was no longer his
alone as a little green made her unsteady way in her direction. The look on
her face said it all. His wife, she was going to be a dragonrider.

Everything after that happened so quickly. Ameala was rushed out of
the Sands and over to the piles of cut meat. She'd been trained on
what to do. She took the plate handed to her and began to feed Ingoth.
The little green gobbled up the food quickly. Ameala was feeling
rather hungry herself, some of which was coming from her new
connection to Ingoth.

Ingoth radiated love with her hunger towards Ameala. Ameala returned
the feeling towards the green. She was so small, yet so amazing. Her
heart felt full to bursting.
