"Meledei?" T'nom called out as he knocked on her door. They hadn't
visited in awhile and he'd wanted to enjoy some time with his friend.
Besides, he'd made her a small wooden bracelet he wanted to share with
her. He'd been working on it in his spare time and now was as good a
time as any to give it to her.
"Can I come in?" He called out as he nudged at the door, waiting to
hear her response.
"Hey T'nom!" Meledei's voice came from far within her quarters.
She hadn't exactly answered his question, but her greeting was enough
for him. T'nom pushed open the door and entered her weyr. He glanced
around, but didn't see her. With the goldriders having larger weyrs,
he poked his head around a corner to check if she was in the next
little room over.
"Where are you?" He called out, not wanting to intrude if she wasn't
expecting company. He wouldn't dare go beyond the front two little
sections without permission.
"Back here. Come on in!" Meledei gave a half laugh and stepped out
of the bathroom and into the sitting room. She was wrapped in a towel
and had another in her hands which she used to vigorously work at her
wet hair. "Hey, didn't expect to see you today. What's up?"
T'nom turned the small corner and saw her just as she emerged, wrapped
in her towel. He'd seen her in her bathing suit, but there was
something about seeing her bare legs, still glistening with drops of
water that made his heart skip a beat. He didn't want to give her the
impression that something was up, he'd done so well hiding his
feelings, at least he_thought_ he had, but he couldn't resist taking
a good, long look at her in that towel and thinking about what she
_wasn't_
wearing underneath it.
"I hope you don't mind I stopped by unannounced,* **Perhaps I
shouldn't have,** he mused as he felt his body reacting to the sight
of her in a towel. "I, um," he had to try and remember why he'd come.
"Oh, I made a bracelet for you and wanted to drop it off." He held out
his hand with the small wooden bead bracelet he'd carved for her.
Meledei didn't seem to notice the effect she had on the young
bronzerider. She gave one more swipe of the towel of her hair, then
stepped forward so she could reach out to take the bracelet. "For
me?" She ran the beads through her fingers and noted the smoothness
of the wood. "They look like glass painted to look like wood. It's
beautiful. You're so sweet." She smiled at him, then held up a
finger. "Give me a second, I need to get dressed." Evidently that
wasn't something she was going to do in front of him. No, she slipped
back into the bathroom for that.
He was pleased by her compliments of his work. T'nom took great pride
in his woodworking. The praise she offered him now was especially well
received as he had worked countless extra candlemarks on making the
bracelet extra special just for her.
"Sure," he replied to her comments, glad for the moment that she had
stepped away. It gave him time to get control over his own body once
again.
It didn't take Meledei long to get dressed. Khaki trousers and a dark
blue tunic didn't require much. Her hair was still damp and hung down
in thin strings over her shoulders. She had put the bracelet on her
wrist and was admiring it as she stepped back from the bathing
chamber. "It really is beautiful. I love the dark red colour."
Indeed, she loved the red woods. Most of her furniture was made from
the stuff - and those that weren't it was simply because she hadn't
been able to find that colour furniture in the store rooms. "I didn't
know you made jewelry too."
"I never have before," T'nom replied. "I've been laboring over it for
some time now. I actually started that bracelet at least five
different times as things just weren't working right." He gave alittle
snort at that. "I wanted something to work on when I have a few
minutes, and the bigger furniture pieces were too complex while I was
still a weyrling and now still getting used to all the wing drills and
such." He shrugged a bit. He did miss the furniture pieces he loved
making, but he'd been able to whittle away at the beads when he had a
few spare moments as a weyrling. The bracelet had been in progress for
quite some time.
"Really? Wow...I'm honoured that you decided to give it to me." She
smiled again and shook her wrist to see how it dangled from it. It
really was a nice bracelet. Not fancy, but that was good. It meant
Meledei could wear it more often and as casual jewelry. "So what are
you up to today besides delivering me jewelry?"
"Not much, really," he replied. "I just thought it would be nice to
stop by and drop that off. I don't have any other plans for the day."
Then T'nom added quickly, "But if you have somewhere to be I can go."
"Nah, not really. I was just going to go down to walk along the
beach." Meledei shrugged, then motioned to the door. "But I don't
have to. We could do something together if you like."
"I wouldn't mind a walk along the beach. Mind if I join you?" T'nom asked.
"Of course not." Meledei plucked a light sweater from the back of a
chair. It didn't really get cold, but sometimes when the wind blew it
was just enough to make one a little chilly. "Let's go."
He smiled. "Alright, then," the turning, his eyes dancing slightly, he
inclined his head slightly and offered her his arm. "Can I escort you
my lady?" He said, his tone light and playful as he waited for her to
take his arm.
"Of course my lord!" Meledei laughed and slipped her arm through
T'nom's. "Lead on!"
