Description: Chupsin stops by the tavern for a visit and meets Shyow
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 13, day 13 of Turn 6
He walked in and sat down at his usual table. He hadn't planned this little
excursion so he didn't have arrangements to meet up with Keayd. The healer
was glad of the quiet, though, and was hoping there was something good on tap.
Tourniquet made his presence known before flying to settle near the fireplace,
warming by the fire.
She watched the rather attractive looking man enter. Now _he_ seemed
worth her time and effort. Shyow moved over to greet him.
"Howdy, sir, what can I get you this fine eve?" She asked as she
sidled up to his table, a smile on her face.
"Ah...if you have any flavored ale, that'll do. And perhaps some bread or fried
tubers." Chupsin didn't want to get sloshed so food would help. Knowing his
luck, someone would choke on something and he'd have to tend a patient before
the evening was over so it was always good to retain some faculties. Speaking of
faculties.. **This one isn't bad looking, wonder when she got here**
It was an absent minded thought and more of a man noticing than Chupsin himself
registering. He'd not spoken or been with a woman in that sort of way
since Alivya
and most likely wasn't ready to. It was a good sign that he was still
noticing things,
however.
"Sure thing," Shyow replied. She turned and headed towards the
kitchens, putting in his order for food. Then at the bar, she filled
up a mug with the ale on tap. Carrying it back, she smiled at him.
"Here you go. Berry Red Ale. It's one of my favorites. Your food
should be up shortly."
"When did you get here, if you don't mind me asking? I don't think I've
seen you before..." Keayd hadn't mentioned a new tavern maid, but then
again Chupsin hadn't seen him in a bit since he had working odd candlemarks.
"A little over a month," she replied, "though I've been working
whatever shifts they need me to, so it might just be that I've not
been here when you have." After answering, she added, "Let me get your
food, I'll be right back." She turned and headed to the kitchens,
returning a moment later with his plate of tubers and bread. "Here
you go."
"Thanks, smells good." He surveyed the food and drink before him and
felt himself relaxing, This was normal. This was like it was before marriage
and death. "I'm Chupsin." Of course his knots proclaimed his rank and craft
so he didn't bother sharing that.
"Nice to meet you," she replied, "I'm Shyow. Do you come often?"
"Aye, I was born at the Hold and I have a friend here. So I come every now
and again. It's good to get away." Pouring some spices onto his food like
he preferred, he listened to her breathing as she spoke without thinking.
"I see. It's good to have you visiting with us, then." She gave him a
pleasant smile. "Can I get you anything else?"
"Not at the moment, but if you're not busy you're welcome to remain and
have conversation." He wasn't sure what made him do it. It was unlike Chupsin
to invite anyone to be social besides those he knew.
She glanced around, noting that the few remaining patrons were into
their cups or fast asleep. "I wouldn't mind taking a short break and
enjoying some company," Shyow replied, sliding into the chair opposite
him. **Maybe I can make a a little something tonight after all,** she
thought as her eyes swayed towards his money bag.
"So tell me about yourself, Shyow." It wasn't romantic interest or even interest
as a crafter, but rather just general sociability that was bringing
him around now.
She had to choose her words carefully. Her story was always the same.
"I grew up in a cothold a good distance from here. My family was never
well off, so I took a job here to help make ends meet. Times, however,
have still be hard on us. I like working here though. I meet alot of
interesting people," Shyow smiled in his direction at those last
words.
"Hmm our family is not...wealthy per se though my sister married well and I've
done all right." Of course Chupsin had used every advantage given to
him and then
some. "We've never struggled, though. Did your Holder never see that
you were provided for?"
She tilted her head slightly at his question. "No, not really. I think
we were not starving so they basically left us alone to fend for
ourselves." Shyow found his own description of his life interesting.
Even though she was doing _much_ better for herself now due to her own
little exploits, she _had_ had a more difficult time growing up.
"Well then whoever he was didn't take his duty at all seriously and he
should have been taken to task. And you were never married?" That was
obvious, though he still liked to ask. There were those who might be in the same
situation he was in.
She paused slightly, though not something others would notice before
answering. "No." Shyow felt it best not to go into details about her
personal life. "What about you? I'm guessing you are married?"
"I was," he answered, guessing this one had not heard the story yet.
Maybe vintner hall wasn't as gossipy as the Hold was.
"Oh," she replied, her brow wrinkling. "I'm sorry." She wasn't sure of
the details, but she felt it was the appropriate thing to say.
"She was probably more sorry than I was," he replied quickly, so tired of
the sympathetic looks and whispers.
She wasn't sure what he meant by that, but decided to simply leave
that comment be.
"Well, you know you can always find willing ears to listen and
shoulders to lean on here. I've met many interesting people since I
started, and I'll be here if you ever need a friendly face," **And
then maybe next time I can fathom how to slip my fingers into that
coin purse,** she mused as her eyes darted there quickly one more
time.
He wasn't the type to spill his troubles to all and sundry but he wasn't
averse to a little female conversation either. Especially when it was with
a female who didn't know the whole story and didn't judge him. "Very kind
of you, Shyow."
She smiled at him. "I should probably get back to work, though I've
enjoyed talking to you. Maybe we'll get to talk again soon."
