Pierka was so agitated she couldn't sit still. So instead she paced up
and down in her weyr wringing her hands and muttering. She had snapped
at E'ron earlier and he'd left. She felt awful and couldn't understand
why she was this way.

Finally in a search for a way to calm down she walked into the outer
weyr thinking she'd just lean against Liddith and draw a little
comfort from the closeness with her lifemate. But when she went
through the curtains she saw it. Liddith glowed!

"Oh my," she sighed and almost on cue the green woke, screamed and
launched toward the feeding pens. "Liddith!" she called and ran toward
the lip of her ledge but she was to far and too high. Pierka turned
and ran for her door. "Oh no, E'ron," she sobbed. She could only hope
he was still somewhere around. Pierka pelted down the stairs and out
to the feeding pens where her green was on a heard beast.

Xemroth bellowed his intent. Z'ku hastily set aside the riding straps
he'd been repairing. No mistaking the lust rolling off his dragon.
**Who is it?**

}:Liddith. She is young and beautiful and I will catch her.:{ The
bronze shifted impatiently and Z'ku hurried to catch a ride before his
dragon left him behind.

N'vanik was doing some hidework in his favorite spot on the beach when
he heard the green call out. Loseth's desire hit him a second before
the huge bronze surged out of the waves where he'd been relaxing.
}:Liddith rises.:{

Liddith ... Liddith ... oh, yes. She was paired with the shy girl,
what was her name? "Pierka," N'vanik muttered to himself as he got up.
He chuckled at the thought of how shocked the poor girl would be if he
won.

Faricyth lifted his head at the scream and saw the young green streak
towards the feeding pens. This was something he could do well and
seeing the two bronzes following, knew he'd have a fighting chance.
He may be a big blue but he was certainly faster than those bronzes.
}: I chase! :{

Kam'ran glanced up as his blue got ready to launch. ** Wait! I need
a lift ** he called out and scrambled to mount before he lost his
chance. Nothing worse than being stuck in his weyr ... alone ... when
Faricyth chased. Only when he'd landed and noticed who was chasing
did he blanch for not strapping in for the short flight.

Pierka had known this day was coming and she'd been trained by the
Weyrling Masters on what to expect, but the reality of it was almost
overwhelming. What small portion of her brain could still function
marveled at all the riders showing up and looked for the _one_ rider
she wanted most to see. But her vision faded as her mind become one
with Liddith's

The green had finished with one last beast before her whirling eyes
swept the waiting males. She screamed defiance at them all once more
and flung herself skyward. }:Who among you can catch me.:{

}:I can and I will,:{ Naath told the young green. }:You need a strong dragon
like me to show you the ways of a flight.:{

I'lan had made his way to the feeding pens to see a small, yet growing group
of riders close round the young greenrider.

}:I will.:{ Loseth bellowed as he launched after the young green. He
knew he had to watch her carefully, as her inexperience made her
unpredictable.

A third bronze streaked after Liddith, Xemroth making promises that
she would not regret choosing him. Z'ku noticed the Weyrleader join
the circle with some surprise. That kind of competition intimidated
him.

The delicate green was all defiance and fire as she lead her stream of
bronze, brown, and blue suitors through the clouds. She wasn't coy or
tricky, she was too young for that, but she was fast and dodged as
several of them tried at one time or another to catch her. Liddith was
passion that carried her rider away in the joy of her flight. Pierka
knew nothing but the ache in her shoulders that told her she would
soon be spent. Still she called to the males chasing her. }:Faster!:{

Faricyth was struggling. Large as he was, he was able to keep up with
her most of the time. She was much trickier than he was used to
though. The blue was at a loss for words as she called out her
continuing challenge.

Naath responded to the call for speed, showing a turn of speed unsuspected
from a bronze. Maybe, just maybe he'd get the chance with this green.

Xemroth did his best to keep up with the fast blues and the even
faster green. A brown nearly collided with him and he dodged just in
time. He snorted his annoyance and flew on. }:You want me! None of
these others will do,:{ he called to Liddith.

Although he kept pace with the other males, Loseth was in no rush.
Liddith could turn at any moment and he waited, ready to react.

In a darting movement that took her impossibly sideways Liddith dodged
the clutches of a speedy blue only to throw herself directly in the
path of a unexpectedly close bronze.

}:I knew you'd choose me,:{ Naath bugled with joy as he twined necks with
the young green.

On the ground, I'lan stepped forward, opening his arms to form an embrace
around the girl.

Pierka's mind was still joined with Liddith while her body sagged into
I'lan's arms and responded to him with dragon hunger.

Shards, he was so close! With a bugle of disappointment, Faricyth
veered off and dove into the ocean. Kam'ran blinked as the connection
was lost then grumbled that his blue hadn't come to pick him up before
heading into the cool water. ** Could have used that myself ... **
Instead, he walked off to get back to whatever it was he was doing ...

With Xemroth's disappointment sharp in his mind, Z'ku turned to one of
the women waiting at the edge of the group.

N'vanik however, pushed eager women away and headed for his weyr.
Talryne would meet him there.
