"Thank you," Fitchan told his colleague. "My wife will adore this." He
tookthe small pouch and put it in his pocket, glancing up at the sun, which
was slowly beginning to set. "I better go, Ameala will have dinner on," he
saidas he handed over a small handful of coins. "Ten thirty-seconds wasn't
it?"
The other technician nodded. "You go," he said. "If she doesn't like it,I'll
see if I can make another."
Unaware of her husband's diversion, Ameala merely sat at him, half reading
abook and half daydreaming. In her opinion she had become overly efficient
athouse work. It being just the two of them, everything was clean more
oftenthan not. She sighed again and looked out the window. Judging from
theshadows from the trees, Fitchan should've been home already. Where could
hebe? It want like him to stay late at work.
"Ameala, I'm home," Fitchan called through the door as he pulled his boots
off.
"Oh, Fitz, I thought it would never end," she called as she hurried to the
doorto greet him. After placing a satisfying kiss on his lips she noticed
somethingdifferent about her husband. "You're tense. DO you have news?"
"No news," he said, "Just something special for you." The technician watched
his wife's face, waiting to see her reaction.
"For me? What did I do to deserve a gift?" She couldn't stop the blushing or
the smile that graced her face. Fitz's surprises were always the best and he
didn't just stick to anniversaries or birthingdays to give her something
special. She considered herself very lucky to have a husband like him.
"You married me, remember," he teased as he reached into his pocket to pull
out the gift. He really hoped she'd like the simple little brooch.
The small red box was simply wrapped in a silky ribbon. With a twinkle in
her
soft green eyes, Ameala untied the ribbon and lifted the lid. Inside held a
silver
brooch that was artfully crafted into an open flower wrapped in vines. The
artwork
was intricate enough that the piece did not require stones and gems to make
it
sparkle.
"Oh, Fitz! This is so beautiful," she pulled it from it's wrappings and held
it in
the palm of her hand, turnin it into the light.
"I really hoped you'd like it."
"Oh well, of course! It's gorgeous. I hope it didn't cause us _too_ much
trouble," she cocked a brow at him. Though she did love the gift, she had
to keep Fitchan in line before he went spending all their marks on gifts.
Always the mind of reason in the relationship.
"No trouble," he assured her. A colleague had been practicing with
metalwork, and discovered a skill for it. He wanted people to wear his work,
so he could gain a reputation. "I saw this and thought it would suit you."
Ameala took the opportunity to plant a good kiss on the her husband's lips
before
deftly pinning the brooch onto her blouse. "You did well but what ever shall
I do
for you in return?" She asked with a devilish twinkle in her eye.
"I'm sure I can think of something," he said as he put his arms around her
to pull her close into an embrace.
Returning his embrace, Ameala took a deep breath taking in the scent of him.
It never ceased to relax her. "Well let me know when you come up with
something."
"Is dinner ready now, or can it wait a while?" he asked.
Jokingly she asked, "Thought of something already? That was fast." She
laughed
and kissed him again. "Dinner this evening is noting spectacular. I just
made
a stew with the leftover roast and some biscuits. So, it can wait."
"Then let it wait," he said, a twinkle in his eye. "Just follow me and I'll
show you how you can thank me."
