A Shaky Beginning (2/2)

Writers: Chelle, Heather K
Date Posted: 8th August 2012

Characters: Chupsin, Ameala
Description: Ameala returns for her results from healer Chupsin
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 9, day 10 of Turn 6

Ameala fiddled with her skirts, as she often did when she was anxious,
while she waited for the healer to come into the room. She had had a few
days to come to terms with the fact that she may never bear children.
Fitchan and her had discussed the different possibilities at length. They
had decided that if they weren't meant to have children then that would
just be the way it was. However, that was a group decision. Privately,
in Ameala's own mind, she was determined to find a way to have a child.
Just waiting and seeing was not her speed. She was more of a 'do it
yourself' kind of woman.

He'd looked at the slides and made his notes. Now, he needed to get
the other medical history that would be necessary to making any sort
of diagnosis. After a short knock, Chupsin entered the small room they
used for consultations. Taking a seat, he pulled out his note hides
and made himself comfortable. "Good day Ameala. I take it you've spoken
to your husband?"

"And to you, Healer Chupsin. I have spoken with him as you suggested
and he cannot recall any incidents that would have harmed
his...abilities. He's open to a meeting with you if I asked him but
doesn't find it necessary." She kept her own thoughts on the matter
private for now.

"We'll see how things go for now but if time goes by, I think we'll
schedule one. Allright, after looking at your samples and concluding
the examination, I can't see anything that is abnormal or that would
harm your abilities. There's no visible scar tissue and the frequency
of your monthlies suggests both ovaries are functioning. Have you ever
heard of the timing method?" Chupsin asked her, knowing most mothers
told their daughters how to figure things.

"Yes of course. My mother told me about that but sometimes we lose
track of time. You know how it is. I guess I just get nervous about
these things. It's a very important thing after all," Ameala
explained. Her mother was a sort of expert on not having children,
hence how Ameala had remained an only child. Her mother was, however,
much more dedicated to her calendar then Ameala was.

"Okay so what you need to do is keep track of time when you have your
menses. It's usually going to be the sevenday or two right before that
when you have the most chance to get pregnant. So that's when you need
to be having relations more often," Chupsin,
explained, trying to be helpful.

Ameala nodded along as she listened to the advice. She knew she had to
time their relations with her menses but she hadn't known that the
timing would, in fact, increase their chances. "That shouldn't be a
problem."

"I'm also going to give you an herbal infusion that you can drink as a
tea that may help things as well. Otherwise, all I can say is try to
reduce any
stress you or your husband may be having since that can have an effect
and keep trying. If something else crops up, come back to see me."
Chupsin would send her to the dolphins if it turned into months and
months.

Ameala was glad to here she would be going home with something to help
her out. It certainly couldn't hurt to have a little help on the side.
"I will do my best to keep him relaxed. Thank you, Healer Chupsin.
You've put me at ease for the moment. You'll be the first to know if
this works out."

He nodded and passed her the instructions. "Give these to the senior
apprentice on your way out and he'll hand you the packet with
instructions. I've got another appointment, but I hope it works for
you." Indeed, he did. It was her duty to provide her husband with a
child after all.

Taking the packet he handed her, Ameala stood to leave. "As do I and thank
you again." She smiled at him and made her way down the hall to the waiting
Apprentice at his desk up front. Her heart was lighter now and she felt more
at ease, even a bit excited. She couldn't wait to get home and tell her
husband.
