Keeping Busy

Date Posted: 6th January 2006

Characters: Mayla, Pacham
Description: Mayla checks in with Pachman to ensure that the Infirimary's supplies are holding up.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 9, day 4 of Turn 3

"Pachman," Mayla called knocking on the Weyrhealer's office door. She had been trying to find the time to meet with the man for a couple of sevendays now.

Pacham grinned as he motioned to the seat in front of his desk. "Good morning, Mayla! Please, come in and have a seat."

"Thanks," Mayla said, then getting straight to bussiness asked, "I figured that I had better come and see what supplies you are in need of.
I know that eveything that has occured recently must have left you very short handed. I am sorry that I didn't have the opportunity to check in with you earlier.' "Not at all. I have appreciated all your help in resupplying our stores. The tragedy really ate into them." Pacham had inherited an infirmary in tatters. The Headwoman had been a great help to him since his arrival. "I'd say we could still use more bandages and bottles, if you can get your hands on them."

"I'll be sure to look into the matter as soon as possible. We cannot risk being caught unawares, although I certainly hope nothing like this happens again. The Weyr couldn't withstand another loss of that magnitude."

"No, it surely couldn't." Pacham had not been there, but the stories had been enough to wipe the smile from his face. "So what has been keeping you so busy these days, Mayla? I haven't had much chance to visit with you lately."

"Welcoming people," Mayla said with a sign, "It is great to have all of this new blood arriving at the Weyr, but between the new riders and the arrival of the harpers the only thing I have time for is helping people to settle in. Not that I am complaining though. It is great to have music now. I think that it has gone a long way in raising the Weyr's spirits.

"Yes, they are a wonderful addition aren't they," the Weyrhealer beamed.
"Did you have a chance to dance at the Harper Welcome?"

"A little," Mayla said, "but not as much as I would have liked."

He nodded his understanding. "The music was grand I have to say. Just grand."

"That it was. You must be glad to be getting back to a semblance of normality around the infirmary," Mayla commented, "I understand that for the most part everyone has recovered enough to move to their own quarters."

"Yes, for the most part," Pacham nodded. It was good to see fewer and fewer riders recovering in the infirmiry. Of course, some would never fully recover, but at least they could be in more comfortable surroundings, and hopefully move on with their lives.

"Well let me know if you think of anything else you need," Mayla said standing, "and I will be certain to get it for you."

"I certainly shall," the Weyrhealer smiled as he stood to walk her to the door. "I appreciate your coming up to chat. You should come more often!"

"I will try to Pacham,"Mayla assure him, "maybe next time I will even have time to sit and chat for a while."

"That would be nice. You'll know where to find me."

"I certainly do."
