Gimme A Lift

Characters: T'aesh, Qorri
Description: T'aesh helps Qorri with one of her duties.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 6, day 6 of Turn 6

Qorri stepped out into the Bowl with a carisak on her shoulder. She
needed to head to some of the unoccupied weyrs to clear them out. The
items she couldn't take now would be listed and then someone would get
them later to be stored. She'd asked for someone to help and had been
told a weyrling had been assigned.

T'aesh stood beside Raisheth with hand playfully thumping on the young
brown. Earlier in the day Raisheth had told his rider that their
services would be required of the Headwoman. T'aesh was fond of
Qorri, as she was one of the few people who had believed in his
potential earlier in the Turn, when he was in a little bit of hot
water. So this was more of a reunion with an old friend, than a duty.

T'aesh was determined however to be on his best behavior for her. As
soon as T'aesh saw her, he stepped forward, intending to assist her
with the load she was carrying.

When she realized who it was, she stopped frowning. "It's okay, it's
almost empty now. Just my hide and stylus. Here's a list of the weyrs
we have to go to." She handed over a small diagram on hide as she
approached the brown dragon, looking up at him. "Well he's certainly
grown."

T'aesh grinned a goofy little grin filled with pride and thumped
the big brown playfully. He was always happy whenever anyone commented
on Raisheth, and still very amazed and proud that the brown dragon
had chosen him.

}: You were the obvious choice :{ Raisheth informed T'aesh matter
of factly, with just a hint of pride tingeing his voice. The brown
dragon was quite happy with his rider as well.

T'aesh took the diagram and nodded, looking at what weyrs had
been marked off. "I think we should start at the uppermost weyrs and
work our way down? Sound good to you Headwoman?" the young rider
asked.

"Very," she replied simply before she considered. "Is it okay if I go
up there?"She wouldn't hesitate with a grown dragon but weyrling ones
she didn't know Qorri was hesitant about.

T'aesh looked at Qorri, even more pride beaming from his face.
"Raisheth here can handle it, trust me" the young brownrider said,
giving his dragon another affectionate pat. "We are at your service
Headwoman," he ended with a flourishing bow and a playful grin.

"Let's see about this then," she muttered before huffing her way
up a foreleg and around a neckridge before plopping down onto the
dragon's back. Qorri caught her breath and then began to attach the
straps.

T'aesh lifted his eyebrows quizzically but didn't say anything. With
the quickness of much practice, he was up on the brown and strapped
in. He took another look at the diagram and decided which weyr to
visit first.

** This is her first time riding with us Raisheth, so let's make it a
smooth one. And if it wasn't for her, I might not have been Standing
during your Hatching, so let's make her proud ** T'aesh told his brown.

}: I always fly smooth :{ Raisheth said dismissively.

With a powerful push of the dragon's hind legs they were off the
Weyrbowl, and with a few sweeps of his wings they were on their way to
the uppermost weyrs.

Qorri never really got over flying. She'd never thought to be a rider
herself and still never did. Flying, though, when she could gave her a moment's
peace. It was a time when she wasn't tied down to Pern.

Raisheth alighted on the ledge to one of the empty Weyrs, and then
crouched low to allow his rider and passenger to to climb down.
T'aesh unstrapped himself and slid down quickly, wanting to assist the
Headwoman if she needed it, which he doubted.

She began to make a list of the basic furniture there, to put on her
inventory. Qorri finished that quickly and started to put the useful
items in her
carisack she saw them. "So tell me about weyrlinghood. Do you like it? Learn
anything useful?" she asked as she worked.

T'aesh looked at the Headwoman's efficiency in her work as he answered
her question. "I love being a rider. Some of the stuff we learn I
already knew, just from being a dragonhealer and living in the Weyr.
Other stuff, though, was a surprise. Like how deep me and Raisheth's
bond is. Riders talked about it before, but it's something that you
can't really know about until you have it," he informed Qorri.

"Hmmm..." She muttered as she went about her business. It didn't take
long to get through this weyr though. She handed him the quarter full
carisak as she walked back. "I imagine from what I know that it's like
having another person there all the time, even when you can't see them."

Qorri approached the brown, ready to go to the next weyr. "Allright,
Raisheth, let's try this again." It wasn't as hard getting up on the brown than
it had been on other dragons, but Qorri wasn't used to climbing over
such big creatures.

**Help her out won't you Raisheth?** T'aesh asked his young brown

Raisheth extended his forearm, making it a little easier for the
headwoman to climb up. Once she was securely on Raisheth, T'aesh
climbed up himself, taking care not to swing or bump the sack he was
carrying too much. He secured himself, and then secured the
Headwoman's carisak before checking the diagram to decide the next weyr
destination. Even though he hadn't requested this duty, this wasn't
so bad at all. As Raisheth launched from the weyr ledge he decided
that today was going to be a good day.
