Jaylene

Jaylene

"I think K'larren asked for a white and two reds," Jayonne muttered as
he tried to remember what the slender greenrider had asked for, for
his party tonight. "Or was that two whites and a red?"

"I though he said a heavy red and two lighter style red ones," Jaylene
said, giving her brother a curious look. "So that'd be three reds, no
whites."

"No no, you two, he asked for a heavy bodied white and two rose
style." J'zen shook his head at the other two. "Don't you
two_ever_listen? And besides..." Just then they turned a corner in
the dark cellar and he laid his eyes on the Journeyman in charge.
"Hello beautiful!"

Blayre rolled his eyes at the compliment. He was still adjusting
to the open nature of River Bluff's riders. Apparently he looked
something of a tasty morsel for the blueriders. Like most other
things, he let the comments roll off his back like water and went
along being his cheery self.

Looking back at the kegs and then to the group of people headed his
way, "Yes, they're lovely aren't they? I'm Blayre and what may I do
for you fine folks this evening?"

"Well you could say yes to dinner and a drink later," J'zen flirted,
sidling up to the man and using all his greenrider charms.

Apparently this one was not going to shove off lightly. Blayre cocked
a brow at the bold rider. "As one who's craft necessitates the drinking
of wine I can assure you the drink will not be necessary. You would get
the same answer from me sober. Not interested, friend." With a pat on the
back, Blayre moved on to the more sensible looking woman. "Now, as I was
saying, what can I do for you?"

"I think we need a red and two whites..."

"No it was a white and two reds!"

"No! I told you two it was a red and two rose's!"

All three looked to Blayre for help.

The Vintner merely stared back. "Well, apparently it's not yourself you're
ordering for. Is this just wine to be drunk freely or is there a
dinner involved?" It was obvious the group had little memory of what they
were sent to do. He would try and help them figure it out any way he could.
Perhaps it would even earn him an invite. He could use a good party and it
was a nice way to get acquainted with his new neighbors.

The three siblings looked momentarily baffled as they turned to one another.

"Were we eating too?"

"I think so..."

"Well_I_thought it was just drinks."

"Maybe dessert?"

Jaylene turned back to Blayre. "Does it matter?"

Taking a moment for thought and then Blayre replied with a wave of his hand,
"Not tonight. Just drink it. Why don't I set you up with a sweet pink and a
dry white? Would that satisfy you think?"

"Maybe we could get a bunch of different ones," Jayonne suggested,
smiling at the Journeyman before glancing at his brother and sister.
"Then K'larren won't be angry with us if we get the wrong stuff.
Would that work?" He directed the last question back to Blayre.

The Vintner nodded. "Sure, I think I have a few skins hanging around
that I could give you. Follow me," he led them all to the cabinet
where he kept a few
skins full and ready for consumption. He handed a skin to each of them and said,
"Try them out and let me know what you think."

The three took sips from the offering glasses.

"I like this white," Jaylene said, pointing to the glass in Jayonne's hand.

"No, that red is better." He in turn pointed to a glass on the table.

"Well_I_like this one. Or was it that one?" J'zen eyed the two
remaining glasses and cocked his head at Blayre.

Again, Blayre was bewildered. Smiling again to cover his confusion, he added,
"Well, everyone likes different things. Why don't you just take these three
and see how it goes. You know where to find me if, and I suspect when, you need
more."

"You_could_always come with us tonight," J'zen added. As one of the
prettier greenriders in the Weyr, he wasn't used to being blown off.

**There it is.** He thought to himself. His first party at a Weyr. He had
heard stories about how crazy these affairs could get. Blayre was eager to
join in the action himself. Keeping his composure, Blayre replied, "I would
love to."

"Great, pick you up in a few candlemarks?"

"Or just meet us in the dinning hall in a few?" Jayonne added, knowing
his brother could be a bit pushy at times, and this poor fella did
look a tad nervous with J'zen.

"Yes, I'll be there. I want to change into something a little more festive
anyways. See you in a bit!"
