The Weyrleader stepped up to T'nom. "Congratulations."

T'nom, who was still reeling from the utter joy and shock of the last
few candlemarks, gazed at the Weyrleader and then quickly stood to
attention. "Weyrleader N'vanik. Thank you. Taldeth and I will make you
proud." T'nom wanted N'vanik to know that he would work hard and be
the best rider he could be.

N'vanik smiled. "Relax, this isn't an inspection."

T'nom tried to do as he was told, "Sorry. I mean, I'm just eager. I've
waited for this for so long, it's hard to believe it's finally
happening to me. I can get a bit ahead of myself sometimes."

"That's alright. Some Weyrleaders might like all that formal stuff,
but not me." The only times he demanded discipline were drills and
Fall, because lives were at stake.

T'nom wasn't really sure what else to say to the Weyrleader. He'd
lived here for Turns, but aside from words of encouragement after the
multitude of hatchings, he'd not really gotten to know the Weyrleader
well. This time, however, the words were different. No longer were the
others telling him that next time would be his time, but rather now,
the words were full of congratulations. T'nom was still amazed by the
past few candlemarks.

"Did you feel almost like you were walking through a dream when you
Impressed, Weyrleader?" He asked, a silly grin on his face. "I just
mean, that this all seems almost surreal, yet I know it's really
happening." Especially that now present tingle in the back of his mind
that he knew was Taldeth. Even as the newly hatched bronze slept,
T'nom still _felt_ him. It was almost like feeling another part of
himself. It was a feeling hard to describe to anyone who'd never
experienced it.

"Oh, yeah. I kept looking at Loseth to make sure he was really there."
N'vanik had thought he might wake up the next day and be back out on
the road, and everything would have been a dream.

"I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who felt that way," T'nom replied.

"I think most riders do," N'vanik said. "You're a friend of Meledei's
aren't you?"

"Yes, sir, I am. We were both candidates together and got to be
friends before she Impressed Elleth." T'nom glanced around, wondering
if he could still spot her. He knew she'd been at the party, but with
her injuries she wasn't likely to stay long. "I was real sorry that
she got hurt during the last fall."

"Me too." N'vanik's mood dimmed a little as he thought of Meledei's
injury. Then he brightened. "I bet she was thrilled to see you
Impress."

T'nom smiled at that. He _knew_ she was happy. She'd wanted him to
stay at the Weyr and now she'd gotten her wish. T'nom would not be
going anywhere unless it was adragonback from now on!

"Aye, that she was. We both were," he replied to the Weyrleader.

"For her sake I'm glad she was stubborn enough to come down and watch.
She would've hated to miss it."

"For sure," T'nom replied, glancing around at his fellow weyrlings,
eager to rejoin the festivities himself.

"I've got more weyrlings to talk to so I should get going.
Congratulations again," N'vanik said.
