T'nom

The day before a Threadfall was always crazy busy. There were her
normal duties which always kept her busy, but there were other things
to do to prepare for Thread the following day so those had to be taken
care of as well. This made things _extra_ busy but Meledei was doing
pretty good. She wasn't _quite_ done, but she would have some time to
relax before her bed called her - and she wanted to relax. Well, she
could relax a _little_ during dinner.

And she was hungry. Dinner would take care of that too. Meledei
stepped into the dining hall and her eyes almost immediately went to a
friendly face. She changed her course a little and made a line toward
the man in question. "Hey Tanom." She greeted as she slipped into a
seat across from him. "Do I look like I'm wasting away? I feel like
I am!"

R'enh cracked his neck as he walked through the door. They'd let the
wing off with light training today since Threadfall was the next day
but preparation was still ongoing. The firestone sacks were piled in
their usual places for the wing to arm themselves the next day. His
arms and back were tired as he always adjusted the piles and watched
the workers carefully. His own experience told him to double and
triple check the sacks.

He filled his tray and scanned the room before heading toward a
familiar face. "Mind if I join you?" he asked as he slid his try in
next to Meledei.

"Hi Dei," he chuckled at her words. "You look wonderful as always," he
added with a grin. He glanced up when another person came to join
their tables. Tanom instantly straightened. Not only did his knots
indicate who he was, Tanom had seen him around since he'd arrived,
though they hadn't formally met. Things were different around Meledei
as they'd been friends so long, but when the other, ranking riders
were around, he felt an almost innate desire to be formal and on his
best behavior.

"Of course, R'enh." The bronzerider's rank didn't bother her - but
she was a goldrider too. Meledei motioned to the chair next to her,
then plunked a bite of food in her mouth. She looked at her friend
and arched an eyebrow and then motioned between the two men. "Tanom,
this is R'enh, Wingleader. R'enh, this is Tanom, outstanding
candidate and woodcrafter."

He coughed a bit at her introduction and shot his friend a look.
Praise was not something Tanom was used to hearing all that often, so
it still caused him to feel a bit uncomfortable.

"Nice to meet you R'enh," Tanom said, extending his hand towards the
bronzerider.

R'enh chuckled. "Well thanks for the promotion Meledei, but I don't
think N'vanik would appreciate it." He reached across the table to
take the young man's hand in a firm grasp. "Wing_second_ R'enh at your
service," he grinned then patted her back. "Are you looking forward to
the hatching?"

"Er...oops." Meledei flushed a little bit and squirmed. She had
_meant_ to say wingSECOND but for some reason her tongue had taken on
a life of its own.

Tanom shrugged a bit, but he did feel that flutter of hope in his
heart. "I am, though I've been through so many, I begin to wonder if
this will be the life for me in the end or not."

R'enh looked at the younger man. "I Stood several times before
Mnoranth cracked his shell. You know what he told me once?" He smiled
at the memory. "He said, I came as fast as I could. Good thing you
waited for me." He picked up a piece of bread and dipped it in the
wherry stew. "I'll bet you'll find yours," he added before he took a
bite.

"I was feeling the same way." Meledei reminded her friend. She'd
stood at every single hatching that Tanom had and she knew very well
what he felt. She just hoped he didn't give up. She had faith in
him. She just _knew_ he was going Impress, she just didn't know when.
"You'll Impress, Tanom. I know you will!" She insisted, voicing her
thoughts."

"Thanks," he said to them both, "for the vote of confidence. I am
eager to see if this time things will turn out differently." **And if
I, too, will find my future lifemate like you both did.**

"It is an unimaginable feeling, that first connection." He remembered
the moment those whirling eyes locked on his and the voice spoke to
him for the very first time. "I certainly hope you do find your
lifemate."

"The closest I can come to is..." Meledei pondered for a moment, but
really, there was nothing like it. Nothing like it at all. "Like...how
you feel when you realise you love someone. Really, truly love
someone. Then multiply that times infinity...and that might give you a
hint." Meledei grinned. "I have no doubt you'll feel that soon,
Tanom."

R'enh looked at her with a tilt to his head. So young and she'd
experienced love of that kind? **Interesting** }:Elleth's has been sad
for a deep hurt.:{ **Ahhh,** was all he thought out loud to Mnoranth.
So not the 'typical' goldrider, at least not yet.

"Anyone want a bubbly? They just brought out a fresh tray."

"Sure that sounds great to me!" Tanom replied.

"Does anyone want a bubbly? Are you kidding?" Meledei giggled and
stretched out her arm, her hand opening and then snapping shut. "Come
on, gimme!"

R'enh chuckled and rose to grab three and put them on a small plate.
"Hot!" he said as he placed the plate in the middle of the table and
straddled his chair.

"Thanks," Tanom said, sliding one of the bubblies over towards him.

"Eat up guys. Early to bed - busy day tomorrow." And hopefully, one
that would come and go quickly and with little injuries. But not to
dwell on that. No, for the moment, Meledei was going to think of one
thing and one thing only. Ooey, gooey, bubbly!
