Meledei eased down onto the rock and set her crutches on the ground.
She was getting a lot better on them, but it still stunk that she was
forced to _use_ them. She was a lot slower, which meant that getting
anywhere took twice as long. The trek to the lake had been an
example. She hadn't even had dinner in the dining hall, just grabbed
some meatrolls, a redfruit and a sweetroll, wrapped them up, plopped
them in her satchel and then headed for the lake. She was so tired of
being indoors and that seemed to be where she was mostly now that she
was stuck on crutches.
But not that evening. She'd just skip actually sitting down in the
Dining hall to enjoy the outdoors and the way the light danced upon the
water as the sun went down. Elleth was already there by the time she
arrived and slid into the water, the liquid lapping at the lightly
golden hide.
T'aesh made his way toward the Weyr's lake, Raisheth at his side. The
little brown had just eaten his final meal of the day, but this
evening he didn't fall right off to sleep. He was still awake, so
T'aesh decided to walk him down to the Weyr lake to help relieve some
of that energy.
}: Can I go for a swim? :{ Raisheth asked as the lake came into view.
Ever since his fist experience with water, Raisheth had thoroughly
enjoyed being in the element.
**Perhaps tomorrow my love? Your hide is so clean now, and if you go
for a swim, you'll want to go to sleep all to soon and I won't have
time to oil you again.** T'aesh said, running a hand along his dragons
smooth and gleaming hide.
}: But Elleth is already swimming. :{ the brown dragonet said, a bit
put out.
T'aesh looked at the lake to see the golden queen cavorting in the
waters. He scanned the lake, and finally saw her rider sitting on a
nearby rock.
"Hey there Meledei!" T'aesh yelled, waving at her as he and Raisheth
approached.
Meledei had plucked one of the meatrolls from that satchel and when she
heard the familiar voice, the hand that held it raised and she waved.
"Hey T'aesh!" She called after she had swallowed and then grinned at
the brown.
Elleth, curious about one of the newest dragons in the Weyr drew out of
the water and shook herself, then got closer to Meledei. When Raisheth
was in reach, she stretched out her neck to sniff at the younger
dragonet.
T'aesh smiled at Meledei and then bowed to her and Elleth. "Good
evening to you queenrider, and Elleth" he said formally, but his eyes
gleamed jovially. He watched with some curiosity as the golden Elleth
sniffed at his little brown.
}: Hello Elleth. I'm Raisheth. I would like to swim with you, but
T'aesh says not today :{ the young brown informed Elleth as he turned
his head this way and that trying to get a good look at her.
"It's Meledei to you, bucko." The queenrider in question grinned and
motioned to a clear spot next to her on the rock. "So taking advantage
of the rare free time you have as a weyrling?"
}:Greetings, Raisheth. Perhaps we can swim together another
day.:{ Elleth did not go back into the water, but settled down near
the two riders and the young brown, perhaps out of deference to the
other dragon's inability to swim at the moment.
"Free time? What is that and when do we get some?" T'aesh said
smiling and then nodded towards Raisheth. "Actually I'm out walking
with this one, trying to get him to tire out" he said as he settled
down next to Meledei. "How are you feeling?"
}: I would like that. Mine likes yours, but he gets sad sometimes
when he thinks about things he has said to her :{ Raisheth said as he
curled up across from Elleth, looking back and forth between her and
the two riders sitting on the rock. }: He was not well before I got
him, but he is good now :{ Raisheth said as if he was stating a well
known fact.
"Not settling down, huh?" Meledei asked just before taking another bite
of her meatroll and let her eyes wander over the sturdy little brown.
He wouldn't be little for long, though, she knew that!
There was a moment's pause before the gold answered the little brown.
}:Mine does not seem to worry over it. If he spoke bad things to her,
she has forgiven him for them.:{
T'aesh shook his head. "Not today at least, usually after his evening
meal he nods right off, but he was as chatty as a werybrat and keeping
the other dragonets up, so I decided to take him for a walk." T'aesh
said as he took notice of Meledei's food. "Didn't want to enjoy the
fine accommodations of the Dining Cavern tonight huh?"
}: That is good. T'aesh likes yours, so I will like her too. :{
Raisheth said, he said before giving a content little chirp, finally
beginning to settle down.
"If I sat down and ate in the Dining Cavern, I'd get here just in time
for me to turn around and go back." Meledei would be so glad when she
was off those crutches and could fly again.
Elleth made a rumbling sound that couldn't be mistaken for anything
other than a draconic chuckle. }:That is good. Mine likes yours as
well.:{
"Why not have someone carry you? Like a certain new bronzerider for
instance?" T'aesh asked grinning. Ever since he had found out that
Meledei and T'nom had a bit of a history T'aesh would not let up on
the subject. "I'm _sure_ you would get her quite faster, and the
journey would be so much more fun"
Raisheth flapped his wings and then resettled them in a more
comfortable position before responding to Elleth. }: Good :{ was all
he said, he was definitely beginning to get sleepy.
Meledei snorted. "Or about a certain new _brownrider_ for instance?"
She reached out to poke him playfully in the ribs. "Come on, would you
really want to be bogged down carrying me from place to place?
Besides...it's kinda odd. And people stare."
Elleth crooned softly, as if she were singing a lullabye to the brown.
She curled up next to him and lay her head down, one lid lowering to
give her green, whirling eyes a milky appearance.
"Me carry you? And have every bronzerider in the Weyr staring
daggers at me? No thank you." T'aesh said grinning. "But you
shouldn't have to use those crutches for too much longer eh?" he
asked, looking at Elleth and Raisheth. He then motioned for Meledei
to look and listen to the too. Queens were not really known for their
maternal skills once the eggs had hatched, and he had definitely never
seen a gold croon a dragonet to sleep, especially one that wasn't from
one of her clutches.
"Well I'll be a wherry's uncle" he whispered to Meledei, feeling how
much Raisheth liked the golden Elleth's dragon song.
Meledei rolled her eyes. "Every bronzerider wouldn't stare daggers at
you. Most hardly know I exist!" And those that did notice her didn't
notice her in _that_ sort of way. "I'm supposed to use them for at
least two more sevendays and then see how I feel." She turned and then
giggled when she saw Elleth and the baby brown. "I'll be indeed. I
guess he's asleep...so now how will you get him back?"
T'aesh was about to give Meledei a lecture on just how much
bronzeriders and their dragons noticed _everything_ about queens and
their riders before he realized that Raisheth as good and sleep.
**Raisheth my love** he tried, but only felt a content drowsiness.
The young brownrider turned to look sheepishly at Meledei. "Do you
think you could have Elleth wake him up, so I can get him to the
barracks?"
}:I will try.:{ The little gold nudged the even smaller
brown. }:Raisheth, you might be more comfortable back in the
barracks.:{
Meledei giggled and finished off her last meatroll. "He fell asleep
fast."
Raisheth was slow to wake up, blinking rapidly as he looked at his
surroundings. This was definitely not the weyrling barracks, and his
comfortable couch. He looked at Elleth, giving her an apologetic
chirp before standing up.
}: I would like to go back to my couch now T'aesh. :{ the young brown
told his rider before standing up and walking back in that direction.
T'aesh gave a low chuckle before sliding off of the rock, grinning as
he bowed to Elleth. "Thank you Elleth" he said before turning to
Meledei. "It has been a pleasure as always queenrider. Are you sure
you don't want me to send for someone to come back and carry you to
your weyr"
"I should make you do that." Meledei stuck her tongue out playfully at
him. "But nah, I'm good. It'll be slow going, but I'll make it."
Meledei also didn't like the idea of having to rely on someone to get
around. "You two have a good night."
T'aesh grinned and waved at Meledei as he jogged to catch up with his
dragonet who was now more than halfway across the Weyrbowl going
towards the weyrling barracks. "Same to you" he yelled back.
