"Okay..." Sh'del chuckled and followed the young boy away. He noticed his
knots and asked, "so how far away from Blooding are you?"
"Not far. I graduated at the end of the last month," M'shan replied.
"Hey, Endoriel, come to meet dad's new cousin!" he called to
attractive woman around ten turns older than he was.
She came over and gave Sh'del an appreciative look over. "Hi, I'm
Endoriel, the daughter who didn't Impress."
"I'm Sh'del, your long lost second cousin." He grinned and kiss her on
the cheek.
"Does that mean you're off limits?" she asked with mock-pout.
"She likes rank," M'shan murmured to Sh'del's ear.
"Unless you want three eyed babies, then yes, 'fraid so." Sh'del
looked at M'shan and rolled his eyes.
"No thank's," she shuddered and standing on tip toes, planted a kiss on
his cheek. "But if you want a new tunic, look me up, I'm a weaver. I'll
give you a discount," she smiled wickedly.
"With the gathers and what not coming up, I might just take you up
on_that_offer," he said.
"You can find me at the weaver workshop," Endoriel said.
"Will do. You guys have any more siblings, or was it just the two of
you?" From the way Sh'dori had talked to Sh'lua, he doubted it would be
just the three of them.
"Faranth, no! You're only met a fraction of us," Endoriel said.
"There's Luadora, Sh'lua's full sister. Doriila, N'dori, D'rash,
Y'shan,Shannelle...who else?"
"Don't forget the children: Jayshan, Geddori, Doramia, little Chadora and
poor Raydori," M'shan added. "And those are just the living ones. Those
killed or stilborn aren't counted in. When you start to add
grandchildren, you're lost."
Sh'del blinked as they rattled off the names. If he were a woman, he
would have run a mile if one of them had come around! "So...small family
then?" he asked dryly.
"Very small," Endoriel agreed with deadpan face. "Dad always says that he
can get woman pregnant just by looking her."
"Does he even have to go so far as look at her?" Sh'del teased.
"Probably not," M'shan shrugged with amused grin.
Sh'del laughed at that. "I've only ever had my parents and my older
brother. What was it like, with an entire clutch of you guys?"
"Noisy, " M'shan said, "and sometimes you had to fight for being noticed."
"Not so bad," Endoriel said on her behalf. "You were never truly
alone, there was always someone you could turn to, always some there for
you. It was safe." M'shan nodded, it was all of those things too
Sh'low, a young bluerider walked over to them, in intent to greet his
uncle M'shan when he recognized Sh'del and let out a groan. "What are you
doing here?" he asked. He was too young to fighting wings and
therefore was part of the Weyrling Wing's staff. He was not happy to see
his boss in a family party.
"That would be 'sir'...or cousin," Sh'del answered dryly. This should be
amusing.
The boy just stared him, dumstruck and M'shan quickly filled him in.
"This is too weird. Do I have relatives everywhere?" Sh'low complained.
"Yes. You can just blame your granddad for it," Endoriel shrugged.
"So now that you know I'm a cousin of some sort, are you going to be nice
to me, or do I need to beat you to within an inch of your life?" teased
Sh'del.
"Yes, sir," Sh'low said, not knowing if he should roll his eyes or shrink
to the growing shadows.
"Is that 'yes sir' you want a beating or that you're gonna behave and be
nice to me?"
"I'll behave," the boy replied.
At that, Sh'lua reached out and locked the boy's head into a lock so he
could ruffle his hair and tease him.
M'shan chuckled, Sh'del fit in to the family all right.
