Description: Sh'del gets introduce to his new relatives in a beach party.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 28 of Turn 6
The extended family had gathered to a beach outside the Dolphin Cove Weyr.
There was large fire burining and blankets spread around it, with food
and various drinks and large piece of herd beast cooking over the fire.
People were milling around, talking, eating, drinking. There was even a
game of water ball going on among the younger
members. The children were running around and chasing each other or
firelizards. Balidora, the matriarc of this "clan" was naturally
overseeing the food. These were all her children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren. The setting sun coloured the sun to a liquid
gold.
"These beach parties of ours are the best chance for you to meet the
family or at least most of it," Sh'dori said to his newly found second
cousin. Not everyone could take a part and those living in holds were
rarely able to attend.
"Great." Sh'del eyed the clan and smiled. His family had just
expanded four fold. "So who do you want to introduce me to first?"
"Whoever happens to come a cross first? But let's get drinks and say hello
to Mom first," Sh'dori replied and guided him towards the fire.
"Sounds like a plan." He followed Sh'dori to the beers and the man's mother.
"Hi, mom," Sh'dori greeted her.
"Hello, dears, nice that you were able to come," she gave them both hugs.
"A'dori is manning the beer cask," she told them.
"Do you want a pint too?" Sh'del asked her as he spotted the man she had
indicated.
"Sure do," the older brownrider replied and wandered over to the beer
cask. "Hi, A'dori. Sh'del, this is A'dori, my baby brother and rider of
green Zinzikerth."
"Hello." Sh'del took his pint and wrapped his free arm around the new
cousin's shoulders. "Not sure Loranth has met your green yet. I'll have
to warn him she's off-limits." Looking back to Sh'dori, he
asked, "did your mum want a drink too? She never said."
"Hi there," A'dori smiled, he was mid thirties and more slender than
Sh'dori. He gave them both a foaming pints.
"She's not a beer-person," Sh'dori replied.
"Zinzikerth will be disappointed," A'dori said on his own behalf and
grinned. "Although, we are not related. I have different father than he,"
he nodded towards Sh'dori. "I'm from mother's second round."
"Ah..." This was starting to get confusing. He still made a mental note
to tell Loranth not to touch A'dori's green, figuring by the end of the
night that list would be rather long. "Just in case..." He grinned and
chucked the man under the chin.
"Hi. No fighting or making out or whatever you're doing, there's
children present," A voice interrupted them. "Uncle A'dori, can I have a
refill?" an empty tankard was thrusted to A'dori.
"Ah, Sh'lua, nice of you to come. Did you bring any of your chidren from
Dragonsfall?" Sh'dori greeted the newcomer.
"Yes, Shaene. C'lua still doesn't want to come, he's pretty much
locked himself up to his weyr," the bluerider replied.
"Where is she?"
"Joined the waterball game," Sh'lua gestured towards the sea. "Oh, M'shan
came too."
Sh'del wondered about the C'lua statement but didn't want to seem rude by
asking. So instead he said, "nice to meet you. How's
Dragonsfall?" He had noticed the colour in the man's knots.
"Just fine. Full of weyrlings or so it seems some days," Sh'lua
replied. "I'm Sh'lua by the way, Sh'dori's son."
"Really? You guys had a big clutch not long ago then?" Sh'del was
dreading this hatching, just looking at the number of eggs on the
ground. "I'm Sh'del, nice to meet you."
"Yes, we had and new hatching coming up soon."
"Speaking of weyrlings, been seducing any new ones that pass out on you?"
M'shan strode up to join the group, wicked gleam in his eyes. There was
noting better than teasing a brother.
"You had one pass out on you? What were you trying with..him...her?"
Sh'del, for one, stayed as far away from Weyrlings as possible. Too
unpredictable.
"Him, he wanted some experience. Shouldn't have let him drink that much
before though," Sh'lua replied.
Sh'del laughed at that. "They're sneaky, those Weyrlings. Act all
innocent but in reality they're cheekier than we ever thought of
being, at that age."
"Not me, I was a good boy," Sh'lua said with innocent expression.
"Yeah, right. I remember catching you with your pants around your
ankles," his father snorted.
"Says the man who sired his first child before he Impressed," Sh'lua
retorted back.
"Only reason you waited until you were 18 before siring, was because half
of your partners were men!"
M'shan touched Sh'del's arm and nodded toward the other people on the
beach. "Maybe I should take care of rest of the introductions. When those
two start that one, they'll go on for a long time. Until they start
hugging and crying." The young brownrider rolled his eyes.
