Meledei was beginning to wonder if she should have come to the feast.
R'enh had been kind to carry her there and she had bitten against the
pain. The healers had allowed it, though Vandor had told her not to
stay too late and impressed that upon R'enh as well. At the same
time, she was glad she had been able to at least go to the hatching.
Several of her friends had Impressed. Tanom...T'nom...S'ryad, and
Taeshin.
}:T'aesh:{ Elleth reminded her.
**Yes, T'aesh!** Came the mental laugh. Her eyes drifted around the
room and finally settled upon the young man, one of the newest
brownriders of the Weyr and her smile crept over her features. All
that waiting. Her eyebrows lifted up when she realised that the young
man wasn't just in her sights, he was headed right for her! When he
approached, she looked up at him from her perch upon the heavily
cushioned chair. "Hello T'aesh."
T'aesh stopped and frowned slightly at Meledei. He didn't know that
she should be down here, so soon after her scoring. Riders were often
pushing themselves, and it was like pulling wherry teeth to get them
to follow healer's orders. T'aesh was sure that neither Vandor nor
Elleth would allow Meledei to over exert herself, so he simply smiled,
especially when she called him T'aesh.
"Hi Meledei." T'aesh said, still filled with the wonder and joy of
being chosen by his beautiful Raisheth. "Did you see Raisheth?" he
asked, not able to keep the pride out of his voice.
"I saw him pick you. I saw." Meledei's smile brightened and a light
came to her eyes. She shifted, then winced a little. She still
couldn't move too well, but at least she could stay for a little
while. "I wish I could see him closer, but maybe I can visit after
I'm up and around a bit more?"
T'aesh gave another frown of concern. "Yes, when you feel better come
and visit. I'm sure Raisheth would love to hear how his rider has
been acting like a wherry for the past Turn." T'aesh said playfully.
He then bowed low. "Please convey me and Raisheth's greetings to
Elleth as well. I trust she is doing ok."
"Don't worry, I'll be more than happy to tell him _all_ about it. And
do it again after he forgets." Meledei's eyes took on a mischevious
glint and she lifted the glass of wine someone had appropriated for
her and sipped at it slowly. "She is doing very well. She,
fortunately, escaped injury during the Fall."
"That is good, and you are doing well right? Not over doing it?"
T'aesh asked, grinning. "Do you need me to get you anything?" T'aesh
was definitely calmer now that he had Impressed, and Meledei would
probably be ready to jump /between/ over the next few sevendays as the
new brownrider tried to make up for his past transgressions.
"Oh, no. The healers won't let me. Shards, Elleth won't let me!
Vandor said I could come here but if I started feeling woozy or having
too much pain to come right back." Meledei wasn't going to overdo it,
not with so many trying to keep her from over doing it! "I'm okay
right now, as long as I lean on my left and don't put much pressure on
my right."
T'aesh nodded "That's good" he said, then a wicked grin began to creep
across his face. He looked around at some of the dancers. "Too bad
though, I'm sure T'nom would just _love_ to take you on a turn about
the dance floor" he said nonchalantly.
"I'd love to take a turn on the dance floor with _anyone_ to be
honest." Meledei sighed and turned her gaze to the area in question.
"But my leg wouldn't support me and I think I'd have to be pretty far
drunk to want to deal with the pain." She turned her eyes back upon
the new brownrider, her smile returning. "But you make sure to dance
plenty for me, okay?"
"Brownrider I may be now," T'aesh said, sighing at the thought of his
Raisheth "but not too long ago, Janani was non to pleased with me, and
that's still fresh in everyones mind. I don't think anyone will be
asking me out on that dance floor tonight." T'aesh gave a resigned
look at the dancers. "Besides, I'm not one for much dancing anyway"
he lied.
"Nonsense." Meledei waved her hand. "I'd dance with you if I could!"
And she was quite sincere in that statement for Meledei wasn't
usually inclined to lie. "But I'm going to have to give you a rain
check." She glanced around and then waved T'aesh to come closer.
"Come here, I've got a bit of a secret to share with you."
T'aesh stepped forward and leaned down towards the sitting queenrider,
his eyes alight with mischief. "What's the big secret?" he asked,
sounding like any kitchen drudge, gossiping the day away while
working.
"Girls, even girls who are tomboys, like to be asked rather than
having to ask." Meledei whispered with a twinkle in her eye. "So I
bet if you went and asked one, they'd say yes. I know I would."
T'aesh gave Meledei an inquisitive look for a moment and then begin to
grin. "You are giving away craft secrets Lady. The other girls will
surely kick you out of the club now!" T'aesh informed her, laughing
the entire time. In truth there were a number of girls T'aesh would
like to take a turn about the floor with, but more than that, he
wanted to get back to Raisheth.
"Only if you tell them." Meledei tilted her head, eyebrow arching
upward. "And I think I can trust you not to do that, hm?" Then she
saw that look and she knew what it meant - she'd seen it many turns
before and probably wore it herself when she attended her own hatching
feast. "Go have a dance, then you can go back to him. He's probably
still sleeping isn't he?"
T'aesh nodded. "Yes he is still sleeping" he said smiling. He was
still in amazement of the rapport that was every present between rider
and dragon. "I think I will follow your advice Meledei, but I'll skip
the dancing, at least until your feeling better huh?" he teased.
Quickly he leaned down to give the recovering queenrider, whom he was
rediscovering as a good friend, a light kiss on the cheek. "Feel
better" he said before walking towards the weyrling barracks and his
sated and sleeping Raisheth.
"I'm going to take that as a raincheck then." Meledei smiled at the
kiss. "Thanks." She called back, watching the new brownrider wander
off and shaking her head. She was glad they had resolved things.
And, of course, she was _very_ glad his lifemate had finally found
him.
