Kwiksol was taking a walk during his morning break. It was so interesting, the Weyr, much busier then the already bustling Harper Hall. He was walking by the weyr lake. He liked looking at the dragons as riders washed them.

Today he caught sight of a bronze and his rider. It was times like this that he wished he was more artistically talented. But instead, he settled for speaking. The rider seemed young, and, less imposing then some of the older riders. "Hey! You've got a fine looking bronze there."

"He's the best looking bronze on the whole of Pern!" called back I'lan.

Kwiksol shook his head, but good naturedly so. "And I'm sure you're opinion's completely impartial friend," he yelled back.

"Oh I'm biased and I know it," said I'lan, giving the bronze's hide a friendly pat.

"Whats his name?" Kwiksol asked.

"This is Naath." Pride filled the young man's reply. A turn or so after impression and the pair really were settled at last.

"Good day to you Naath," he said with a nod to the bronze. "And now, what is your name, bronzerider?"

"I'm I'lan." From behind them came a loud 'Woof!'. "The furball over there is Bubbly." Hearing his name, the canine came to his master, sitting at his feet, tongue hanging out and panting.

"You have quite the entourage there I'lan," Kwiksol replied a smile on his face. "Bubbly, an interesting name for a canine."

"He earned his name, begging for Bubbly pies in the kitchens when he was a pup," explained I'lan, dropping to one knee to pat him. "He still begs there now, but they know not to give into him so much."

"Oh! You horrible pup!" Kwiksol responded in a light tone, waggling a finger at it. "Hogging the Bubbly pies."

Hearing his name, the canine bounded up, an eager look on his face. The animal might not understand much but saying his name, followed by pies usually got a reaction. "We'll have to try find him one now," said I'lan in an amused tone.

"Oh, I'm sorry!" Kwiksol said trying to choke off his laughing. He was surprised the canine had responded so intelligently.

"I did promise to get him one earlier,"admitted I'lan. "He won't remember that, but once he gets his teeth into one..."

"It gets a bit messy I'd bet," Kwiksol replied, finishing the thought.

"Just a little."

"Well, since its my fault I'll help you look for the B-U-B-B-L-Y-P-I-E," he said, spelling it out, trying to not excite the canine further.

"He'd like that."

"You're still working on Naath?" he asked, looking back towards the bronze beast. "I'll run over to the kitchens right now, see what I can do." He began to walk, throwing a parting wave at I'lan.

"I'll see you again soon."

Kwiksol soon found himself in the kitchens and was at first unsuccessful in obtaining _any_ bubbly pies. But once the more senior personnel had walked away, he was able to convince one of the young women. **And something sweet for me too.** He thought as he returned to I'lan.

"I'lan," he said waving towards the rider. "I got a pie for you and your pup, but I ought to be getting back to work."

"It was nice to meet you," said the bronzerider somewhat formally as he took the sweet treats.

"You too," he replied, "All of you. Catch you later," and with that he walked away.
