D'cal laughed as he watched Aosorath splash the much larger brown next to him with a flick of his tail. Though they were nearing the time when they would be Blooded and soon would enter the ranks of the fighting wings, the little blue still had a sense of youthful playfulness and energy. Part of him worried that it would work against them in Threadfall, but then his lifemate would reassure him that Threadfall would be different. Aosorath would never do anything that could hurt D'cal.

}:Threadfall is serious business. But for now I can play. :{ The blue reminded him as he shook a spray of water from his wings at his young playmate.

The weyrling smiled out at his lifemate. **That's right, dear heart.
Now you can play.**

D'cal was so lost in his thoughts that he was surprised when he realized that a shadow had fallen over him. Looking up, he smiled. "Sorry, I was kind of lost /between/ there for a moment. I didn't notice you standing there."

"Thats ok, I can be quite quiet," Kwiksol replied when the young rider noticed him. "Kwiksol," he said, extending a hand. "I, I, like watching the dragons."

"Nice to meet you. I'm D'cal. That blue trying to make a wave big enough to drown the brown next to him is mine. His name is Aosorath,"
the weyrling said proudly. "You can sit if you like."

"Oh no, I don't mind. Good to meet you too" He said, then waved over to the blue. "And good day to you, Aosorath." He smiled to d'cal.
"Playful thing, is he? I don't think I ever imagined dragons as playful before I came here."

"Well, they are like people in that way. They each have their own distinct personalities. Aosorath is still young and loves to play. But as you can see, that brown is in a mischievous mood too."

"Like rider like dragon?" he said, simply throwing out the oft mentioned phrase. "Its almost, refreshing I think, to see they enjoy youth too." He sighed. "I can't remember the last time I simply splashed around like that."

"But the waves are made for splashing!" D'cal laughed. "Do you swim in the sea often?"

"No, not really," Kwiksol laughed. "I guess that makes a bit of a difference. With the weather here though I should work on that."

"Yes, this weather is made for sea bathing. But you had nice weather over Emerald Falls too if I'm not mistaken." In fact, D'cal remembered he had traveled up that river once when he was still an apprentice.

"Ok, you caught me," Kwiksol replied scissoring his hands. "I've been too busy I guess you can say. Made Sr. Journeymen this year. I think I can rest for a while now, that is, once we're really settled."

"Well," D'cal shrugged, "I'm sure the river was a bit colder for swiming than the sea is here. Especially with that fall bringing down mountain water."

"Yes, the last thing you want to do is fall into those clear, crisp, but oh so cold mountain streams," Kwiksol answered with a contrived shiver. Not that _he_ had ever been caught doing anything so foolish.

"Well, I have to say, cold water is not my favorite. Especially when there is such beautiful warm sea water!"

"And the great expanse of ocean, doesn't seem daunting to you,"
Kwiksol asked. When he would look out towards the sea, it seemed an awfully lot of blue-green. He was certainly more used to seeing land.
The little cruise to arrive a the Weyr had been his first sea trip.

D'cal laughed. "No, not really. I am a journeyman seacrafter, afterall. I would not have gotten far if I had been intimidated by a little water."

"Of course, surely not," Kwiksol said in reply. "do you get much of a chance to practice anymore?"

"No. I have a new life now," the bluerider said with a loving smiled directed towards his dragon. "Besides, I specialized in building ships.
There aren't many shipyards here. When the Topaz Sea Hold shipyards are rebuilt I might lend a hand sometimes, but..." He shrugged.

**At least the tragedy at Topaz was natural** Kwiksol couldn't help thinking. **Actually, disaster seems to be striking far too often in our niche of Pern.** was the follow up thought. "Builder..." Kwiksol replied, thinking. "How handy are you with wood in general?"

The weyrling shrugged. "I'm good, I should think. I'd say I can do many of things a carpenter can do on a boat."

"Interesting," Kwiksol tried to think how different a boat was to a guitar, and decided to drop it. Besides, a rider had much more important duties then to help with the spurt in instrument creation.
"Are you a whittler? I find it quite relaxing myself, just, see what happens with odd pieces of wood."

"Yes," D'cal nodded with a grin. "Yes, it's one of my favorite ways to pass the time! I'm working on a dragon right now up in my room."

"I'd be very interested in seeing your work," Kwiksol responded, quite honestly. "Especially the dragon."

The weyrling was surprised that anyone was interested in, let alone shared his hobby. "You will have to come up to my weyr sometime. I would be happy to show you."

"I look forward to it," Kwiksol replied, while glancing around. "But I'm afraid I must be getting back to work now. See you around D'cal."
He said, throwing a wave as he began walking towards the Hall's section of the Caverns.

"Yeah, see ya!" D'cal smiled as he watched the Harper go.
