Description: Onnyth rises for only the second time and is caught by Larweth.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 6, day 22 of Turn 5
"It's too cold," muttered a grumpy young goldrider to herself as she got up that morning. But looking at the slumbering dragon on her ledge she could see the reason for her mood. Anytime now Onnyth would awaken and signal her intentions to the Weyr, Teseada just wished that it wasn't quite such a cold day she'd picked.
As Teseada dressed she kept it simple, knowing what was to come. She barely had time to pull her boot on and grab a sweater before Onnyth awoke.
}:I rise!:{ called to gold to all at Dragonsfall, the mental call followed by a loud bugle which had to awaken most of the bronze and brownriders.
**Just blood,** ordered her rider as she got to her feet, **When you get to the feeding grounds just take the blood, it will help you fly well.** D'ale was thankfull that he was an early riser when his brown announced his intentions to chace the young gold. ** You don't have much chances. She gold, you brown.**
}: Browns can fly queens too! :{
**Very rarely.**
K'lvin was definitely staring with irritation at the sky. He was huddled near Xmrenth on their ledge, wrapped in his warmest furs. He had woken up early, wanting to go out but the weather was proving more conducive to staying inside his weyr, alone! He turned to go back into the mildly warmer interior of his weyr but stopped suddenly as he felt Xmrenth's mind tighten and sharpen like an arm drawn back to punch.
}:Onnyth! She is Rising! We must go!:{ All thoughts of cold and cloudy skies were forgotten in an instant as desire washed over him. Not just a green then. A GOLD. And Teseada. He had known her for turns, and liked her. Alot. **Lets go go!** He scrambled up to his bronze's back and they went diving down to the feeding grounds to gather with the other interested riders around Teseada and Onnyth. Kalamath's feet almost pranced in anticipation. He wanted to get out to an early lead so she could see him clearly and remember her first Flight. }:We had a good Flight before! Choose me again and we will make another fine Clutch!:{
**Blood,** commanded Teseada as Onnyth screamed a challenge at a poor herdbeast. the few in the area scattered, but not fast enough for Onnyth to catch on and bite down. **Just blood, blood helps you fly.**
}: Wake up. Onnyth is rising!:{ Y'nub was roused from an exhausted sleep by his bronze's excited voice booming in his head. For one moment, Y'nub considered leaving the Weyr. He was so sick of goldriders and their games, flights being the most important of them. Teseada was no different than the rest, and he was sure that all the bronze riders that she'd been toying with the last few months would be there, hoping that they'd done enough to win her favor.
Larweth didn't have a chance at the queen, not now. If his bronze couldn't win Onnyth's first flight, after all the time and energy he'd spent _playing_ the game, then now, when Y'nub had done his best to avoid Teseada... no, not a chance. Despite his belief that Larweth stood no chance of winning, Y'nub got up.
While not the first to join the crowd that gathered around the young goldrider, S'rak wasn't the last. He trotted to catch up and join the group. He cast a glance in the directino of the dragons, but couldn't see much from his current position. Radeth was already among the bronzes, crouched upon the ground in eager anticipation while they waited for the gold to blood, then take to the sky.
"What a freezing day she picked up," D'ale murmured when he and Torerath joined the other chacers around the feeding pen.
}: The flight will warm you up, :{ the brown remarked. The brown's rider looked around and felt out of his place among these bronzeriders.
}:Now!:{ called Onnyth as a last herdbeast was cast aside. The gold sprang into the air, wings beating powerfully.
Torerath soared after her.
Larweth was in the air after Onnyth before Y'nub even had time to size up the competition. He saw U'kaiah and S'rak, those would be his biggest competition, plus just about every other bronze in the Weyr. He saw Teseada, her eyes unfocused on any one rider swarming around her, and he squeezed his way in closer.
Cold day though it was, Onnyth managed to find a thermal which she used to climb high and fast. If these mere males wanted her, they were going to have to work for it. And that meant making them prove themselves. To do that well they'd have to keep up.
S'rak's Radeth bounded into the air with a low growl that sounded almost like a groan. His wings pumped and his eyes whirled in his eagerness to catch the gold. He darted to the right and rode on the thermal right behind her, though other bronzes had gotten the idea to do that as well.
}:I like this,:{ Onnyth called to her suitors. }:You are having to work, but only one of you...:{ She dived to the left, spiraling down hoping to shake off some of the pack, then climbing again. }:Can you do that?:{
}: Sure can! :{ Torerath answered, although he was struggling with last of his strenght to stay with the chase.
}:You know I can,:{ Kalamath purred as he inched closer.
Larweth copied the queens movements, not leading, but not dragging behind. He weaved in between the bronzes showing his skill and agility. He could feel Y'nub's hesitancy, his conflict, but he knew what his rider wanted even if his rider was too wherry headed to admit to it. Y'nub wanted Teseada just as much as he wanted Onnyth. Surging ahead, Larweth powered ahead of the others.
Onnyth had her mind made up though. It wasn't hard to make a decision. The browns seemed to be struggling, so not them, not this time. It would have to be bronze for her, but which one. Radeth maybe? Kalamath she knew well. But there was one catching her eye, and it had to be him. With a sudden swift twist she dropped into his path.
}:Larweth!:{ she called. }:Make me yours today.:{
Y'nub claimed Teseada just as Larweth claimed Onnyth, their necks twining as Y'nub crushed the goldrider's lips against his. He pulled her against him, and all but dragged her to the nearby mating cot. He'd never thought to feel her skin against his again, never thought he'd feel her hands exploring his body again. Though he was sure there would be consequences for this day down the road, he didn't care, not now, now when she was at that moment his.
Torerath was almost glad to give up the chase. His wings were going to be sore tomorrow!
Xmrenth had chased her hard, and almost caught her. He had thought they stood a chance, being friends with her rider. But not today. K'lvin sagged in disappointment as Onnyth chose another bronze. His body aching, he turned from the group fleeing from Y'nub and Teseada to find relief of his own.
