He went down the stairs into dimness and stepped into the sanctuary of his cabin.

When he opened the door, there was a glow already warming the darkness of the cabin. Upon the chair there was a form, unmistakably that of Edele. She stood there, leaning slightly upon the small table and looked up at him as he entered.

"Edele?" He stared.

Her lips brightened her face with a smile. "Hello Jerroll."

He crossed the small room and pulled her into a kiss.

Edele had been all set to give an explanation, perhaps a lengthy one with too many words. All those words, those thoughts that she had processed before coming onto the ship, however, were thrown overboard as Jerroll's lips met hers. She sighed into his mouth, her arms encircling him and holding him close.

He kissed her long and deep before finally pulling back. "How did you get on board?" His eyes scanned her face, still not quite believing she was here.

"I came on before dawn." Estelle explained. "Tarken let me on board though I asked him not to say anything. I wanted to surprise you."

"You did a good job." He chuckled. "So ... you decided I'm worth taking a chance on?"

"Oh shaffit I am a fool, but yes." Edele let her fingers trace a line over Jerroll's cheek. "You'd better not disappoint me, sailor!"

"My title is First Mate, dear cook." He smiled as he said it.

"Is that so?" Edele laughed softly, "I'll try to remember that."

"_Try_? Do I need to teach you proper respect?" His eyes glinted.

Edele laughed, the sound soft and low. "Who's going to be teaching who?"

He bent to brush his lips along her neck. "Maybe we can teach each other. I'm off duty for a while."

"Then let's take advantage of it."

His fingers went to the ties of her dress. "Maybe I can convince Lerra to give me the whole day off."

Edele began inching backwards toward his bed. "Do you think she would?"

He pushed her collar aside to kiss her shoulder. "She still owes me a few favors."

"Are you going to use them all up on me?" Edele tilted her head to give him better access while her hands began to play at his tunic.

"If I do, then I'll just have to earn some more."

Edele's legs came into contact with the bed and she sat down upon it, pulling Jerroll down with her. "In the mean time, you can earn some with me."

"Good." He chuckled, slowly pulling off her dress. "I'd rather be on your good side. Maybe I can stay on it this time."

"You'll have to work hard." Edele laughed softly, then covered his mouth with her own.

Edele. His Edele, not some other man's Alita. Jerroll deepened the kiss, hands working at his clothing. Only minutes ago, he'd thought he'd lost her, and now she was his. All his.
