Arriving at Esper Bay

Writers: AL, Devin
Date Posted: 22nd November 2008

Characters: Jerroll, Edele
Description: The Silver Sails arrives at Esper Bay.
Location: Elsewhere on Pern
Date: month 12, day 10 of Turn 4

There was something familiar about the hold that came into view as the Silver Sails approached land. Something stirred within Edele and she leaned against the bow of the ship, wind sweeping her hair behind her. Was this where she would find answers? Would she finally know who she was? Did she have a family? Friends? Siblings? Children? Were her parents still alive? What did she do before the shipwreck that took her life away from her. Was this where she was supposed to be?

Jerroll watched her for a moment, how her eyes searched the area. "Anything familiar?"

"Yes." Edele turned her gaze to Jerroll, smiling a little. "Though I couldn't tell you what, specifically, just that...it looks familiar somehow."

"Maybe you'll find something when we get to shore."

"Maybe." Edele echoed softly. Would she? Her hands gripped the railing. "What if I don't like what I find?"

"Then you move on. That's what this ship is for many people: a second chance, a new life." He gave the wood a quick caress.

"But what if I find out I'm some horrible person?" Edele stared intently at the scene before her, willing it to tell her all she needed to know so she could decide whether or not to go or stay.

He put a hand on her shoulder. "I seriously doubt that."

"You don't know that." Edele turned her gaze to the first mate, worry rippling through their depths. "I don't know that. I know nothing about myself and you know even less."

He took both of her hands in his. "I know who you are now. You're sweet and kind, and strong. You're a _good person_. That's all that matters to me, and I'm sure the crew would agree."

Jerroll was awarded with a small smile. "Thanks Jerroll. I appreciate your confidence. I may not share it, but I appreciate it."

"That's something, at least." He looked back toward Esper Bay. "Shouldn't be too much longer now." Despite her worries, there was a good chance her previous life was a good one. Probably better than cooking for a bunch of pirates.

Edele let her hands drop and sighed softly as she, too, turned back to stare at the scene before her. Soon she might have answers. But did she really want any?
