"You know her?" Jerroll asked. It seemed obvious he did, but Jerroll had to ask ... and he wanted the man to notice he was there.
The man looked to Jerroll and opened his mouth to speak, but Edele's words beat his to the punch. "Who are you?"
The shock upon the man's face was unable to be hidden and he looked back to the women onto whom he held. "Alita...don't you know me? It's me, Daren...your husband!"
Jerroll kept his face carefully neutral. "We found her shipwrecked. She's lost her memory."
The man let his hands drop from Edele's...or perhaps, Alita's...arms and he looked between her and Jerroll. "You don't remember me? At all?"
"You...seem familiar." Just as Esper Bay, an odd sensation of familiarity and the thought that she should know more, but didn't.
Daren let a hand run through his hair. "We were told about the ship," He explained, looking back to Jerroll. "We had been told of the wreckage that had washed ashore, that no survivors had been found."
"We found her just after the storm. There was no one else, and we didn't know where to take her."
The man held out his hand toward Jerroll. "Then it is you I have to thank for returning her to me."
Edele looked between the two men, her face a contortment of confusion. Familiarity, yes, but only the slimmest of such.
He took Daren's hand and gave it a firm shake. "You're welcome. It was our pleasure to have her on board for the short time we did." And now she would go back to her old life, even if she couldn't remember it. This was where she belonged, with her husband ... and probably children. Jerroll glanced at the boy.
"Please, come, stay...is...you're a captain?" Daren queried, uncertain as to Jerroll's rank. "Please, bring your crew ashore, let me show you some hospitality. It is the least I can do..."
"First Mate, actually." He didn't want to impose himself or the crew on this man, but it was a good excuse to stay close to Edele ... Alita ... whatever her name was. "I would be honored to share a meal, but at least let me provide the drinks."
That brought out a smile, "That would be wonderful. Please, come to the hold as soon as you are able, I will keep an look out for you." Daren turned to his wife and held out his arm. "Alita? Come, we have much to talk about."
Alita turned a fearful gaze toward Jerroll. She didn't really know this man. She didn't remember him. She didn't really want to go with him.
"Ed -- Alita has a few things on the ship she'd probably like to go get," Jeroll said, meeting her gaze.
"Would you be willing to bring them?" Daren asked, turning back to the other man. "Come, Alita...we should let others know their lady has returned."
"Why don't we let her decide if she wants to get them herself?"
The man looked startled and opened his mouth to say something, but Edele cut him off. "No, it's...it's okay." The woman gave Jerroll a small, sad smile. "Would you mind bringing them to me...please Jerroll?"
"Are you sure?" he asked.
"Yes." Edele's smile wavered, but she looked away before it could completely fall. "Let's go...." Dear didn't sound right at all to her. "Let's go Daren."
