Location: Elsewhere on Pern
Date: month 12, day 8 of Turn 4

The sun was setting but the sky was clear. It was going to be a gorgeous night and Edele knew that they would have quite the show of stars that evening. The wind tousled her hair, but she didn't care. It felt good, crisp upon her face and brought with it the pleasant stinging scent of the water.

He watched her for a moment before moving up beside her. "It's going to be a clear night."

Edele smiled. "Yes it is. A lovely night. One worth being enjoyed."

"We don't get up the river much. It's a nice change." He leaned against the rail.

"To be honest, I've never..." Well, how could she say that? Edele couldn't even _remember_ her past, much less anything as inconsequential as that. "I wouldn't think ships made runs up and down a river, really."

"If the river is wide enough and deep enough, they can," the First Mate said. "Going back up might be a bit of a problem, unless we catch a good wind."

"It will be a problem?" Well, of course it might. After all, ships used their sails to move. Edele glanced back down into the water. "What if there isn't a wind?

Jerroll smiled. "Then we'll have to find an accommodating stop along the shore."

"I guess we well." We. What if she found her memories? Would she stay or would she go back with the ship? What sort of life had she led before being rescued from that shipwreck? "Then I guess wait until a wind _does_ come along?"

"Yep. We haven't had much trouble getting back to the Sea before, so I hope that stays true." Although in this season, it wouldn't be so bad to get stranded in the North for a few days.

"I'm afraid we're a long ways away from the North." Edele shook her head and looked back out to watch the bank as it ambled past. "You found me in Northern waters, though...right?"

Jerroll chuckled. "I meant North relatively. The Northern part of the Southern Continent, as opposed to back there," he hooked a thumb behind them, "where we'll soon run into snow. We found you back there, in the Sea of Azov, although it was kind of on the northish side."

"Oh, I see." It seemed her sense of direction suffered as well as her memory. Of course, it could simply be she just didn't remember where things were. "Maybe I was coming from the North. Or going to the North." Maybe Esper bay was simply a name she had heard whispered by a crewmember that had stuck in her mind for some reason. Maybe there was nothing to find there.

"That could be." He nodded. "Esper Bay does a lot of trade with the North."

"I see." The woman sighed, then turned to smile at Jerroll. "Of course, this trip could be all for naught."

"You might not find anything out about your past, but no trip is for nothing." He laid a hand on her shoulder.

"I hope Lerra is of the same mind." Edele laughed, though it still couldn't hide the worry in her voice. "I'm afraid she'll resent me for this trip."

"Don't worry about that. There's plenty of opportunity for us to make a few marks on this trip."

"As long as I don't have Lerra calling for me to walk the plank in the middle of the river!" Edele stated with a slight grin. "I don't know if I can swim!"

Jerroll looked over the railing and then back at her. '"You know, there's a very easy way to find out ..."

"Oh no!" Edele's hands shot up in a protective manner and she began to back away though it was obvious she was trying hard not to laugh. "Don't you even _think_ about it Jerroll!"
