Description: While preparing to dock, Jerroll and Edele talk about their upcoming shopping trip
Location: Elsewhere on Pern
Date: month 10, day 15 of Turn 4
Edele stared at the dock as the ship came closer and closer. Soon, perhaps, she could find out more about who she was, where she had come from. Did she have a family? Children? A husband? So many questions, but she had come no closer to any answers. Would this bring any?
Jerroll stepped up to her, an empty sack flung over his shoulder.
"Excited for your first trip ashore?"
"Yes and no." What if she didn't discover anything? Or worse, what if she discovered some things about herself she didn't want to know? Edele wasn't quite sure what to think, and she had to admit that made her a bit nervous, though she wasn't sure why it should.
"Nervous?"
"Uh, yes." Edele looked over at Jerroll and gave him a tentative smile.
"You're reading me pretty well."
"I guessed right about the cooking, too. Maybe I know something you don't know." He winked.
"If you do, I hope you can figure out something more." Edele lowered her gaze, then let it move back to the dock. "I hope I can find something more."
"Well, for now, how about we find some supplies?" he said. The ship crept along and the crew prepared for docking.
"I have a list." Edele reached into the pocket of her dress and pulled out a bit of parchment. "I'm hoping I've estimated enough, but I'd appreciate it if you would look it over for me."
The crew was going to be thrilled when they got back. No, wait. They were already thrilled. They were going to be double-thrilled when they saw what she was planning to feed them. Jerroll grinned. "I think we might want to increase the amounts a little. As long as you're cooking, we're going to be eating more."
"I see." That brought a smile to Edele's lips. "Well, I'm glad no one seems to hate my cooking. I just hope I don't kill anyone with it."
"I think the only danger is overeating," he said. The ship pulled alongside the dock and ropes were thrown over to secure it. Jerroll kept one eye on the crew to make sure everything was done properly.
"When you're full, stop eating." Edele advised, straightening. They would disembark soon.
He snorted. "I'll try to keep that in mind." The crew lowered the gangplank and set it in place. Jerroll offered his arm to Edele.
"Shall we?"
There was a moment's hesitation, but Edele finally let her hand slip into the crook of Jerroll's arm. "Yes. Let's."
