"Arieoss!" Eleada yelped, leaping out of bed and stumbling on the small rug as she spun around, looking for the offending feline.

But the wily thing was nowhere to be seen. She was alone in her room, with the... things on her bed.

She groaned. "Felines." She muttered in dire tones. "I'm going to hang her up by the tail if she does this again..."

She crept closer to the bed, reaching out and grabbing the nearest long thing to hand - the rolled up form of a set of drill maneuvers- and poked gingerly at her bedfurs.

They didn't move, but Eleada knew better. She'd been surprised before. She sidled closer, and poked at another lump. Again nothing. A few more pokes and a slight tug on the furs proved no different.

Cautiously, she lifted the edge of the nearest fur, and felt something tumbling down the far edge of it. She dropped it hurriedly.

Sure enough, there were the bodies of two tunnelsnakes, one nearly beheaded and the other thoroughly gutted and leaving little green trails of ichor on her furs as it slid around. She shuddered.

All right, those two were dead. But the one she'd felt, that had caused her exit from bed in such a hurry, had been in a different area of the bed.

She poked a few more lumps before gingerly tugging on a second fur, reveling the slimy, cold body she'd brushed against a few moments earlier.
This one was also dead, deep puncture marks in his neck and part of his tail missing. Further careful exploration revealed only the three dead tunnelsnakes in her bed, but it was hardly reassuring.

At least they were all clearly dead this time, she consoled herself a little desperately. That one time when she'd found the half live one that bit her had been nasty, _and_ she'd had to explain the situation to her wingleader...

"Eww." She said with a shudder. This was the third time in the past month that Arieoss had decided to leave her a few little "gifts." Arieoss was a fantastic hunter and kept her weyr snake free, but Eleada really hated these little "signs of affection" as a beastmaster had told her.

At least she'd been alone this morning, she consoled herself. Arieoss normally didn't bother her if she had company but if she was exceptionally proud... She didn't think B'ram would have appreciated the "gifts" either.

"Ewww..." She repeated in a drawn out groan as she stumbled to the bathing room. She had to wash the dead tunnelsnake guts off herself.

And then she had to wash her bedfurs and figure out what to do with Arieoss's little "gifts."
