Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 4, day 15 of Turn 4
Thesera grabbed the drink out Birigundi's hand as she slipped into his lap. "Thanks! I'm so thirsty I could drink a... hmmm... You're looking rather refreshing," she grinned as she winked at him over the edge of his glass.
"Oh ho!" he laughed, wrapping his arms around the greenrider. "You look rather appealing yourself!"
"Beware of that one, Biri," a bluerider laughed, sloshing his drink as he waved in her direction. "She's on the hunt tonight!"
She leaned in to pur in the Candidate's ear, "And if you're really lucky, Biri, you could be my prey."
"Hmmm, that certainly would be lucky. But won't O'ken mind?" Birigundi asked, looking around for her date for the evening. He found him passed out with his head on the table, surrounded by several empty glasses. "I guess not."
"He and N'dom were doing shots, the fool."
"Thassss what he gets fur thinkin' he'll out drink me," slurred the brownrider snuggled up with his Journeyman Harper. "Hey Biri... Do you remember when we were can... candddid..ates.. and you tried to out do me? Huh? Do 'member?"
"No, N'dom," his friend chuckled, pulling Thesera's hands away from his more sensitive areas. "I don't seem to recall _anything_ of that night."
"Yeah, well, I remember way too much," Journeywoman Riwalla said with an amused roll of her eyes. "You ended up puking all over my pretty dress that I had worn just for you, you little bastard."
"I made up for it later though, didn't I?" Birigundi grinned. Shards...
those were good times...
"Where'd all the drinks go?" a groggy O'ken grumbled, lifting his head from the table. His cheek was marked like the wood-grain.
"You drank it all, love," Thesera said with a sigh. She gave Birigundi a thorough kiss before reluctantly getting back to her feet. "Should we get you back home?"
"No, I want another one. N'dom! Grab a bott'l an ge' o're here. I'm no thruuu with you yet." O'ken searched the table for a clean glass and finally figured a dirty one would do just as well.
"There are no more bottles," the brownrider answered. Besides, Riwalla was proving to be even more intoxicating than alcohol would be!
"Hey you two, find a weyr," the bluerider, W'vrey laughed.
A knock at the door made O'ken give up his seat. "Hey! More alcohol's here!" he cried as he stumbled towards the door.
Nialyn swayed backward as the door was suddenly flung open, trying to avoid smacking into the lurching, drunken, grinning dragonrider. Her friend, Farla, grabbed hold of her arm to steady her, giving O'ken a bright, if rather amused smile. "The night isn't even half over and look at you! Stumbling all over poor Nialyn here as if you can barely see her." Clucking her tongue at him, Farla shoved him gently to the side, hauling Nialyn behind her. "O'ken, this is Nialyn. This is her first party in a long time, so be nice to her."
Crimson to her earlobes, Nialyn stammered out a polite hello, trying not to notice how the young man's eyes kept straying to her cleavage. Shards!
Maybe she should have worn a different blouse... But Farla had picked out her outfit, saying that now that she was slim again, she should celebrate by showing off her "ample assets" and go to a party--and she certainly couldn't wear a blouse buttoned to her throat! "Not to one of Birigundi's parties, anyway," Farla had winked.
Birigundi's parties. Nialyn had never been to one. She'd always been curious--they certainly were the talk of the lower caverns, sometimes. And she just couldn't pass up the chance, even though she'd been rather reluctant when Farla had dragged her out of her weyr. "You'll have fun, Nia! Relax. Maybe you'll even meet a cute guy there! With those eyes and...everything else..." her grin had been wicked, "you'll be sure to attract more than one!" The very thought terrified Nialyn, but it had been a long time since she'd been out, and truth be told, she had needed to get out for a while. If a guy made advances, she would just turn him down. Simple enough.
...Right?
"Her eyes are above her breasts, O'ken," Farla drawled. "You should at least look at a girl in the face when you're meeting her for the first time!"
"Nia!" Birigundi's eyes were wide as saucers when she walked in the room.
Oh Faranth! What was _she_ doing there! This was no place for a... well a nice girl! He leapt to his feet and hurried to her side. "Nia, I... I didn't know you were coming..."
"Neither did I until a couple candlemarks ago." Amazing, her voice wasn't shaking! She offered him a soft smile, seeming almost completely at odds in the surrounding atmosphere. "Farla talked me into coming. Lyndi's with a fostermother for a little while."
"Well... I mean, its great to see you. You look... You look great..." She really did. Almost too great. He could feel more than one pair of curious masculine eyes pointed in her direction. He did his best to block the view with his body. Leaning down he wrapped his arms around her and gave her a soft, but long kiss. Hopefully the other boys would get the hint that this one was not up for grabs!
Flushing from both embarrassment and rather smug pleasure, Nialyn gave him another one of her soft smiles. "Thanks, Biri." Then she glanced at Farla, who was grinning widely.
"Well, Nia! Seems like you don't need me as an escort tonight. I'll let Birigundi take over."
"Well, hello. New faces! I always like new faces..."
Birigundi frowned as A'tep strode into the weyr, draped in wineskins and a cocky bronzerider grin. "Who are your friends, Biri?"
"This is Nia," Birigundi said with a sickeningly sweet smile, his arm tightening possessively around her. "And Farla."
"More alcohol's here!" N'dom cried lunging for another wine skin. "Finally! Common O'ken! Less drink!"
The rather possessive arm pulled Nia closer as two drunk bodies stumbled past. Sharding idiots! "Look, you two, I think you've had enough,"
Birigundi frowned.
O'ken snorted as he pulled two wineskins off the bronzerider's arm. "Wat he say?"
"Thars never nough, Birigoody!" N'dom agreed as he stumbled back to the table.
"They're both going to have sharding awful headaches tomorrow," Nialyn murmured, eying the two fools. Shards, she hoped not all of Biri's...friends...were like them.
"Right! This is a party! I want to see some _breasts_!" A'tep pulled a bottle of whiskey from a sack, casting another appreciating bronzerider grin towards Nialyn. "Let's play a game!"
Riwalla sat up instantly at the suggestion. "Yes! A game!"
"Naked game? I'm in!" N'dom grinned, stumbling away from the table once more.
"Hey! Rrrr you quittin on me aready, Dom?" O'ken frowned after the brownrider.
"Sorry, Ken. I want to see some pretty breasts!" N'dom grinned as he flopped down on the sofa next to the harper once more.
"You see mine all the time," Riwalla reminded him.
"We _all_ see your breasts," W'vrey said as he slid onto the vacant cushion on the other side of her. "Doesn't mean we wouldn't want to see them again."
"Wait a minute!" Shards, Birigundi could tell this was starting to get out of hand. What must Nia be thinking?! "Why don't we just play some penalty game. Do we all really have to get naked?"
"Getting naked is the penalty, Biri," Theresa purred, looping a finger down the front of his pants and tugging him towards the forming circle.
He batted her hand away. "But isn't _drinking_ enough penalty?"
"Come on, pretty lady," A'tep smiled, sliding his fingers down Nia's arm until he found her hand. He started pulling her towards the group. "You're gonna love this game."
She stiffened as he pulled her along, mind whirling with panic. She'd come here hoping to loosen up, enjoy herself, see Biri and meet his friends. This was not what her imagination had conjured! At the few parties she had attended before, no one had gotten naked....at least, she hadn't seen anyone play this game. Her blue eyes flashed. Game! Shards, this wasn't a game. This was a sharding peep show for horny men and women. Biri's so-called "friends." And she would _not_ give them the satisfaction of playing along. "No," she told A'tep quietly, pulling her fingers from his hand. "I don't think so."
Birigundi grabbed her other hand and tugged her back. "She doesn't want to play."
A'tep chuckled as he took Nia's hand once more. "She doesn't even know what the game _is_ yet. She'll like it when she gives it a chance. Come on, now, it'll be fun."
"I know what it is." She glared at the bronzerider's chest, too intimidated suddenly to look up into his face as she snatched her hand away. "And I don't want to play." And she did _not_ appreciate his condescending tone either!
"Ok, ok!" The bronzerider held up his hands in defeat. "You don't have to play if you don't want to. I just wanted you to enjoy the party is all."
"Let's play another game," Birigundi suggested, giving Nia's hand a reassuring squeeze. "Maybe one we all would like?"
"We _know_ another game?" Thesera asked incredulously.
Nialyn glanced at her, expression sharp. Of course, she'd be a foolish girl if she actually believed Biri had never played this certain...game...before, but shards. And she knew he had. In the back of her mind, she'd always known what kind of guy he was. But to picture him sitting in the middle of this group of people, half-naked and drinking, and kissing on the girls... It shook her. And it shouldn't have, but it did. Her fingers grew stiff in his.
"All right, all right," the bluerider said, holding up his hands pacifyingly. "I know a game where we don't need to take any clothes off. Where's that deck of cards? Everyone sit boy girl, boy girl. We're going to need glasses with whiskey for everyone."
"What game is it?" Riwalla asked curiously as she pulled N'dom down next to her.
"Happy Lord Holder," W'vrey answered. "We each draw a card. If its one to five, we take a drink, six to ten and its the next person's turn. If its a Steward they kiss the person on the right, Lady Holders on the left, and if you draw a Lord Holder you pound your drink and choose who you kiss."
"Doesn't sound too bad," A'tep shrugged.
"And you don't have to kiss on the lips if you don't want to," the bluerider assured Nia. "Come on, come sit down next to me."
Warily she edged closer and sat down, feeling very out of place. Shards, a part of her just wanted shy away from it all and hole up in her weyr with Lyndi; she wanted something familiar and sage. But she couldn't leave...she had to at least try. It was why she was here in the first place. Hadn't she needed to get out? Maybe things would calm down... And despite her mixed feelings towards Birigundi at the moment, her eyes implored him to sit next to her.
She didn't have to even ask. Birigundi was not about to let A'tep take the seat he was eyeing.
"All right," W'vrey smiled once everyone was seated. "Let's see..." the bluerider flipped the first card over. "Fabulous! A Lady Holder! That means you, Farala," he grinned, leaning towards the woman on his left.
"Pucker up, lover boy," the young woman grinned back, lips meeting his in a rather wet kiss. A few teasing whistles rang through the brief stillness, and others laughed, egging W'vrey on.
Nialyn stared at her friend and the dragonrider, forgetting for the moment that it was considered rude to do so. Not that polite manners mattered here in this particular gathering of people... Nervously she wet her lips. **This is a bad idea,** she thought, watching as a flushing Farla flipped a card--and pouted when it turned out to be a six. She didn't have to do anything! Shards, Nialyn hoped she flipped a six too. Everyone's eyes then flickered to N'dom.
The brownrider flipped over the top card. "All right! A Lord Holder!" He downed his drink in one long chug and then grabbed Riwalla. "I choose to kiss _you_!"
"You sharding better!" the harper agreed as she pulled him into a rather blistering kiss.
Again, more whistling and cheering erupted from the people watching, and a few shouted teases, too, that were crude enough to make Nialyn blush even more. She wasn't even aware that she had edged closer to Birigundi, very aware of that darn bronzerider's eyes had slid her way again. Trying to swallow her discomfort, she lifted her chin a little.
Birigundi could tell that Nia didn't really appreciate the show. "All right, all right, enough. Come on guys, its Riwalla's turn."
The harper's look was slightly less then happy as she pulled away. "Shards, Biri, since when did you get so easily embarrased?" She filled over an eight and frowned as she passed the deck on to A'tep. He willingly downed his drink when he pulled up a two.
Thesera took the deck and flipped over a card. "A ten," she proclaimed and grabbed the hem of her tunic and pulled it straight over her head, much to the delight of the males who shouted encouragingly.
"This isn't a strip game, remember," Birigundi frowned, glancing over at Nia.
"I figured we'd better spice this game up a bit. Don't you guys agree?"
Thesera asked with a rebellious smile.
"I do like her rules better," A'tep said with an approving clap. "Nicely played, Thesera, nicely played."
The uncomfortable feeling Nialyn was experiencing increased, and she tried to hide her judgmental attitude behind a mask of dispassion. Shards, this was _fun_ to them? If they all started to play by that girl's rules, it would be a sharding orgy. Thesera would probably have sex in front of them all, if she could, Nialyn thought darkly. If this was what Birigundi's parties were all about, then she really wasn't missing much.
Biri.
If she wasn't sitting beside him, would he be clapping in encouragement like A'tep?
"My turn!" O'ken cried, reaching for the deck and succeeding in knocking over the bottle of whiskey.
"Watch it!" W'vrey cried, trying to catch the bottle before spilled, but it was too late. The amber liquid spilled across the floor, causing a lake of liquor to pool on the floor.
"Shards, I'll go get some towels," Biriguni sighed, giving Nia an apologetic smile as he got to his feet.
Her blood ran like ice for a brief moment. He was leaving her alone.
**Don't be foolish, Nia. He'll be right back.** Swallowing nervously, trying to look at everything and nothing to avoid glancing at the people around her, she folded her hands in her lap. The men around her were still chuckling over the spilled ale--some drunkenly, some not--and the girls were still giggling too. Shards, she hoped they'd keep on making noises so an awkward silence wouldn't form...so they wouldn't look at her.
A wry smile curved her lips just slightly. Her reason for coming here had been to get out for a while and be noticed, and now all she wanted was to blend into the shadows. **Oh, Biri, hurry up...**
"So," Thesera said, turning back to look at Nia as she reached for the bottle. "Just what are you to our Biri, eh?"
"Stop playing dumb," Riwalla sighed and took a swig from her glass. "You know who she is, Theresa."
"I'm asking her just who she is to Biri," Theresa repeated, her expression a little less friendly. "He certainly turned into a prude the moment this girl walked through the door and I want to know why."
Nialyn stiffened at the subtle insult--and the implications of what Biri did at these parties. Shards, why did they have to keep throwing it into her face like that? **Remember, Nia, you have something to hold over them...** Lifting her gaze, she looked in Theresa's direction, but felt too insecure to actually meet her eyes in challenge. "Why? Feel threatened?" Her tone was quiet, but had just enough steel in it to hopefully hit home.
"You think I'm concerned about not getting enough of Biri's body?" Thesera snorted. "What concerns me is that this was a shaping up to be a fun party until you showed up. I'm just wondering how many more of these you're planning on sabotaging with your Hold-bred inhibitions."
"Lay off, Thesera," A'tep groaned, grabbing the bottle back from her. "Don't pay any attention to her, Nia. I for one am happy to see you here."
"You're just happy for the chance to see a new pair of tits," Riwalla snorted.
"Which you will _not_ see." The words came out in an embarrassed rush--Thesera's awful barbs had shaken her. The thought of Biri tangled in the sheets with that awful girl made Nialyn's eyes burn with anger and a sense of betrayal.
"Nor do you have to show them," W'vrey assured her, eying Thesera warningly.
"All right, all right." Riwalla took the bottle out of A'tep's hands. "Knock it off all of you. Biri's coming."
"Shards," the greenrider sighed, grabbing the bottle back with a shake of her head, "why couldn't Biri have knocked up someone _fun_ for Faranth's sake."
Nialyn was on her feet, and was distantly startled by the fact. Shards, she didn't even remember when she'd decided to rise. But she did know one thing: she didn't have to sit here and listen to that sharding bitch. She didn't have to sharding be here at all! Her temper simmered, blue eyes turning to chips of ice. Why had she even come in the first place? Nothing was worth this humiliation. Nothing!
Nialyn was dimly aware of a few voices calling her name, some mockingly, others more serious, as she walked stiffly away from them to the door. When she didn't hear one particular voice calling her back, tears pricked her eyes as she angrily shoved the door open and slipped out.
