Karaleigh threw open the curtain in her excitement. "They're coming _here_, O'dan! The Harpers! The entire _Hall_! They're coming _here_!"
O'dan blinked at Karaleigh stupidly for a few moments, wondering of the woman had lost her wits. "They're doing what? Why would the Hall come here?"
"The Hall accepted a female apprentice. The Lord Holder of Emerald Falls apparently did not appreciate that one bit and it is rumored that one of his own guards burned the Hall to the ground. The new Hallmaster seems to think it is dangerous for the Harpers to remain in Emerald Falls territory, and T'moran has offered them a place here until a more permanent home can be found. Can you believe it?" Her voice almost squeaked with excitement. As a female harper she would never have been allowed at the Harper Hall, and it had always been her dream. Now it seemed the Hall was coming to her!
It was too much to process all at once, and O'dan turned the implications of what she'd said over in his head, a little annoyed that his first thought had actually been annoyance that he hadn't gotten to annoy Enrizial by offering sanctuary to the Harpers. It would have been so much fun...
But not worth the rest of what came with Weyrleadership, he reminded himself firmly. He grinned at Karaleigh and held out a hand. "Come here and hug me, lovely. This is a cause for celebration, no?"
"It is," she all but cried as she gently wrapped her arms around her friend.
"Just think O'dan! I can meet all those Masters! Maybe even the Hallmaster if I'm lucky!"
She was beautiful with her wide smile and the excited sparkle in her eyes--and O'dan wouldn't be O'dan if he didn't take advantage of the proximity of such beauty. His arm went around her to return the hug, but then his fingers brushed through her hair and he pulled her close enough for a brief but _far_ from innocent kiss. He released her just as quickly, grinning up at her. "Congratulations, beautiful."
She slapped his shoulder none too gently. "You are so lucky I am in a good mood because I know _exactly_ how to hurt you." Karaleigh looked at him sternly, but her mood was not dampened.
"And it'd be worth it," O'dan replied, winking at her. "Though I don't know if I like the idea of all those harpers here... you'll never come and visit me anymore!"
"Well, not if you're going to pull stunts like that again, I won't," she laughed. "But don't tell me that you are not interested in having a Hall full of them on the lose in the Weyr."
"Well... I'd like it more if I could get up and dance a little." O'dan grinned at her and squeezed her hand. "But yes, it will be nice to have lots of harpers around."
"Oh, you'll dance eventually. Or at least you'll find some way to get yourself in trouble," she said as she rolled her eyes, knowing exactly what kind of dance he was interested in.
"You have such confidence in me," O'dan replied with a grin. "I'm honored, my pretty."
"Yes, well, I very much doubt it is possible to _stop_ you," Karaleigh laughed. "Even Thread couldn't take the 'dance' out of you."
