Birigundi

Birigundi

Nialyn had hoped that her nerves would've settled down by now, but they
hadn't. It was true, she'd lost weight. But would it be enough for her
body to be attractive to him? Faranth knew she _still_ wasn't satisfied
with her appearance, but she had to admit that she was looking much better
than she had in these past couple months. She'd even let one of the girls
who lived down a couple levels trim the ragged ends off of her long hair
earlier today to help her overall look.

**It shouldn't matter what he thinks,** she thought to herself as she
paced passed the door--again. **As long as I have confidence in what I'm
doing, he won't notice....** With a frustrated sigh, Nialyn pressed a
hand self-consciously to her still slightly rounded stomach. But Biri was
a guy, so of course he would notice, and because he was a guy she cared
about very much, of course she cared about what he thought. Nialyn
_wanted_ to be attractive to him again. She missed him. She missed
making love to him.

And so last night, she'd finally given in to her desire and had planned
everything out. Despite her instinctive uneasiness, she had given Lyndi
to a fostermother for the night--one who would be able to feed her when
she was hungry. Then she'd gone back to her weyr and had cleaned it
before setting it up for a romantic evening. The last step to her plan,
of course, was to dress nicely. Not that she'd be wearing anything for
long, if everything went the way she hoped it would, but still... She
wanted to look pretty, since she couldn't look sexy. At least, not yet.

Hearing footsteps outside her weyr door, she felt her heart freeze and
unfreeze in space of a single heartbeat. Nervously she clasped her hands
in front of her...and waited for him to knock.

Knock he did, but he didn't wait for her to turn the knob. "Hey Nia, I
got your... your note..." Shards, she was all dressed up! "Is this a bad
time?"

She shook her head, heart pounding. Shards! What if he didn't have time
to stay? She should've found a way to ask discreetly if he'd had plans.
"I...ah..." **Just say something, dolt!** "Do you have time to stay? I
kind of..." She gestured helplessly around the weyr. "...I want you to
stay."

Birigundi gave her a slow, suspicious smile. She was up to something...
Yeah, I can stay as long as you want."

Blushing furiously, she beckoning for him to come inside. **Real smooth,
Nia. Good job.** "I was hoping you'd say that." There. At least that
was a full sentence! Shards and shells. It wasn't like this was their
first time together!

He took a few steps into the weyr. "Is that dress new? I hadn't noticed
it before."

She nodded, noticing with a jolt of feminine delight that his gaze indeed
seemed to be lingering. "I got it the other day. I think it fits me a
little better than some of my other stuff."

"It fits you nicely." In fact the teasingly midrange cleavage was almost
frustrating!

"My eyes are up here, Biri," she murmured, grinning a little, both pleased
and shyly embarrassed.

"Your eyes aren't your only attractive feature, you know," he grinned,
letting his gaze take in her whole ensemble before lifting it to meet
hers.

Nialyn edged closer to him. She wished she could be bold and murmur
something coy and suggestive in reply, but shards.... Wetting her lips
nervously, she gave him a hesitant smile. "I gave Lyndi to a
fostermother. For the night."

"Oh, did you?" So this was all carefully plotted... Dressing nicely, an
evening alone just the two of them... "Do you have plans for the evening,
then?"

**Do I really have to say it?** she wondered desperately. Wasn't he
catching on? Did she have to spell it out for him? Feeling heat creep
up her neck again, she nodded mutely.

"Do they involve me?" he asked softly, stepping a little closer, feeling
his heart beat a bit faster in his chest at the thought of the promise
that shy blush conveyed.

"Well..." She gave him a quiet smile. "I invited you here, didn't I?"

"Does it involve your dress?" He fingered the strap at her shoulder
lightly as his lips curled into a knowing smile.

"I think it involves taking off my dress," she replied softly, ducking her
head.

Shards, but she was so hot when she was all shy and sweet like that! "You
wore this dress just for me?"

Nialyn nodded, reaching out to shyly finger his tunic. "Just for you."

It had been a long time. A few months at least. And she was acting
almost as if it was their first time together. He could remember that
first time he saw her. She was just like she was now - shy, uncertain,
too unsure of herself to meet his eye without blushing, and yet so
unbelievably pretty. Somehow, she was even more lovely now than she was
then... "You look so beautiful, Nia. I don't want you to take it off
just yet."

Blushing at the compliment, she looked up at him quizzically. "No?"'

"No." He reached for her hand and leaned down to kiss her shoulder
softly. It was just the two of them for a whole night, with no Lyndi to
disturb them. How often would that happen? Why rush when they could make
a night of it? "The harpers will be starting up soon... Do you think I
could steal you away for a dance or two? Every man loves the chance to
make all the other guys jealous."

Before she knew it, her arms were entwining around his neck, and Nialyn
nuzzled him affectionately, the feelings of anticipation and delight
zinging through her, making her feel happier than she had in a long time.
"Faranth, Biri. I'd love that."

Birigundi held her for a moment, marveling at the way she could make him
feel the like the most wonderful man on Pern. Shards, but he liked that
feeling. Finally he pulled back enough to kiss her softly. "We should do
this more often."

Nialyn smiled as she took his hands in hers. "Yes...we should."
