Sh'dori spotted the familiar backside of greenrider and lengthened his stride to catch up with her.
"Hullo there, Eleada!" he greeted.
Eleada spun in surprise, and grinned to see his familiar face. "Sh'dori!
How are you?" She asked warmly.
"Happy as a flit in a butcher's shop. You?" the brownrider grinned.
"Grand." She affirmed. "How's Rahmuth? And your girls?"
"Rahmuth is fine. Little disappointed though, not being able to catch your green. The girls are gotten into their head that they want to be harpers,"
Sh'dori said.
Eleada chuckled. "Better luck next time. But what caused your girls to decide on harpering?"
Sh'dori shrugged. "The harper hall presence perhaps?" he suggested. "Who knows where the kids get their ideas."
"Who knows." She agreed. "But they're still young. I'm sure they'll go through at least a dozen more careers before they apprentice. Or they might decide not to -I never did."
"Oh, yes. They already went thru dolphineering and dragonriding," the brownrider rolled his eyes with amusement.
"Hmm, I know what you mean. Eleadan just discovered woodcarving after being determined he was going to be a harper for two sevendays, and Eleaxol still wants to be a dragonrider." She sighed. "I'm not sure if I wish he will or won't." She admitted.
"I've lost a child to the Thread, so I'd rather see them as crafters,"
Sh'dori said. His daughter, Sharixa's mother, had been about Eleada's age.
"I think we've all lost people to Thread." She said softly. "But do we dare deny our children the same happiness, however brief, that we have with our lifemates?" She had asked her mother and Nesily the same question, and the answer had been the same.
"Well, as long as they live in Weyr, their changes of impressing are rather good. On the other hand, not every weyrbrat Impresses," Sh'dori said, remembering his other daughter, who was a journeywoman Weaver.
"There is that." She admitted. "But a lot do. All my siblings did, and that's six dragons right there. I don't think Eleaxol will Impress, but I'm almost certain Adaric will..." She trailed off, and shrugged. "Listen to me. They aren't even old enough to stand yet. I should be more worried about not orphaning them."
"Don't worry, you and me, we're survivors," Sh'dori said and gave her arm an encouraging squeeze.
"Yeah..." She smiled faintly. Her heart squeezed, and she looked away from her friend for a moment. She'd survived, and lost Linrary anyway. Being a survivor didn't mean that others were too... No. **Stop that!** She chastised herself, and when she turned back to Sh'dori, it was with a more cheerful expression. "So where are you headed?"
"To change off these riding gears and then to the beach. Why don't you join us? You can bring your kids and I bring mine," Sh'dori replied and suggested.
She grinned. "Think they'd be interested? Adaric is convinced girls are yucky."
Sh'dori laughed. "If my girls learn that, they'll be all over him. They just love to tease boys who don't like girls."
It was her turn to laugh. "It might be worth it just to see that." She admitted. "I could probably convince my mother to let them loose for a few candlemarks. If I'm lucky, she might even pack a lunch."
"My mother is a cook, so don't worry about lunch," Sh'dori said.
"Sounds divine!" She gushed, and made a shooing motion. "You go and change. I'll see if I can't round up some playmates for your girls."
"See you later then," Sh'dori said cheerfully.
