Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 1, day 12 of Turn 3
X'amor walked along the beach, a new habit of his ever since he almost drowned. It reminded him of how life could be ended so quickly by something so natural as a wave.
He suddenly had the desire to sing, so broke out in song making up the words as he went along:
"I was a walking one sunny day, When my eyes did see a flit play.
It flipped, twirled, spiraled and flew In the bright sky that was so blue."
The bluerider stopped when he noticed a young woman looking at him a few steps further up the beach, and changed the subject of his song:
"I was a walking one afternoon, When my lips did sing this happy tune, Of a fine, fair, noble and pretty Woman laying in the sand before me."
He reached her by the time he finished his little verse and smiled, bowing, "Dedicated to you my lady by Dolphin Cove's own X'amor, bluerider of Calodith." Eleada laughed in delight, looking up with appraising eyes at the young man who had just noticed her attention. "Why, thank you X'amor. I'm Eleada, Gliorith's rider." She patted the blanket beside her, where she'd been sitting and watching Gliorith play in the waves. "Have a seat."
"Thanks," he smiled. He noticed the young green out in the waves and smiled even more, "Are you two out of weyrlinghood yet?" He hoped she wouldn't be offended by his question but he had a bad habit lately of saying what was on his mind. Eleada couldn't help it. She started laughing, so hard that it took a few moments before she could get herself under control again. "Ye... Yes." She gasped, wiping away tears of mirth. "For the last twelve turns. But thank you, for the compliment X'amor. I'm flattered." She kept giggling as Gliorith craned her head around to see what had her so happy.
X'amor turned bright red, and it wasn't from the sun. He felt like such a dimglow, "Shards, I'm sorry Eleada, I guess with Gliorith in the water I thought she was smaller. Waves have always looked so big to me since..."
he stopped not wanting to embarrass himself any more. She waved his explanation away, trying to ease his embarrassment. Gliorith _did_ look smaller in the water, and she was small to begin with. "That was a lovely little tune you were singing. Did you just compose it?" She cocked her head sideways studying him. Not bad looking at all...
X'amor nodded noticing her sideways glance, "Yep, I write music, dabble in lyrics and fail miserably at singing." He exaggerated a wince, "Sorry I made you hear it." he winked at her, his charcoal grey eyes with amber flecks sparkled with mischief. Eleada smiled, recognizing the mischief in his eyes and wondered if her eyes were echoing the same thing. "If it all sounds like that, I think I could suffer some more." She suggested, inching slightly closer.
He grinned and thought seriously, when of course words were already running through his head. He hummed the tune, a soft slow melody, almost like the gentle roll of the waves crashing on the beach. He purposely sang it in a low register, knowing that deeper sounds impassioned people more than lighter, higher sounds. "The sun shines brightly in the far-reaching skies, But nothing shines as bright as the beauty in your eyes."
Capturing her attention with his eyes he brought his hand up to move pieces of hair from her face, letting his fingers softly brush her cheek.
"Time, drawn out and slow, passes me without a care When those deep green orbs demand that I stare.
No slumbering dream of comfort has ever been As exquisitely pleasant as the touch of your skin."
As he became more intense while he sang, he cupped her chin in his hands, keeping her attention on his face.
"My heart's beating pace is quickening, for _just_ this"
He pulled her gently towards him, moving his lips to hers softly, and then back a little and continued in a soft whisper, "For this, for just your wonderfully perfect kiss."
He couldn't believe his boldness, but it felt good. He had let himself feel his confidence and gone with it. He just hoped she didn't respond with a slap. Eleada stared for a moment, her stunned mind whirling. "Oh my." She said softly. It had been a long time since someone had caught her off guard like that... "The harpers lost quite a prize when you Impressed. Not everyone can steal a kiss from me so easily."
He almost blushed, almost. He let himself look down for a moment though, "Well, I would like to think that you weren't completely unwilling to have it stolen."
She smiled. "No I wasn't. It was well done." She pulled back a bit to study him, weighing things in her mind... No. "You're quite the flatterer, aren't you X'amor? That was beautiful. If you can make that up without any preparation, I'd imagine you could have almost any girl."
X'amor let out a sudden laugh of surprise and shook his head, "No, I've never really wanted to have almost any girl." he shrugged sobering his mood, "I almost died a bit ago," he pointed out towards the water, "I got pulled into the rip tide and almost drowned. A dolphineer saved me. When I was able to think clearly I decided I wasn't going to let my life slip by." his gaze had wandered out to the horizon. He finally came out of his reverie and looked back at her feeling like he had just divulged his inner most secrets to her. "I just kissed you, it's a memory. That memory will forever connect me to you, even in a small way."
he sighed. "There are too many moments in my life that I have nothing to remember to connect me to any one. Could I have almost any girl? Maybe, but that doesn't mean I want every girl." he looked at her, "I mean if you wanted to have me join you back at your weyr I wouldn't turn you down,"
his voice became serious, "but I would _never_ be forceful, or overly forward about it." he grinned slightly, "At least not intentionally." "I honored to hear it." She said with a gentle smile. "But stealing kisses is as far as you'll get me. I'll tease and play along, but I don't tumble except for flights." She felt kind of bad letting him down. It had been a while since someone caught her like that, and she liked the look of him.
"And your little song will be a memory for me. I'm as vain as the next girl, I'm afraid." This young woman was intriguing, a good many of the greenriders were always willing to have a good tumble whenever they felt inclined. It was refreshing to find someone different. He inclined his head, "I respect you for that, not many people can hold themselves in check." he studied her a bit longer, he found it hard not to rise to the challenge. "I would like to see you again Eleada." She raised an eyebrow. She knew that look. "Why not? I could use someone to talk to -and sing me pretty phrases when I need my ego boosted." Her smiled was teasing now, but her eyes were daring. She was a challenge, and she knew it. Would he be a chaser, or would he be a friend?
He saw the daring in her eyes, **I wonder how many men she has had to fend off? How many men has she had to ignore due to their intentions, but wish she could be friends with?**
He decided what he would be, "Well it's a plan then, we should have wine together sometime. Friends have wine together right?"
She laughed, delighted. "Why not?" She repeated. "I'm always open to a bottle of wine with friends." She grinned at him, her eyes sparkling. "But is wine the only way you think you can stand me?"
The bluerider sighed dramatically, "Well, you must understand I have this condition where I can only drink wine with people that I really trust and enjoy being around." he winked at her, "It's a horrible habit I'm trying to break, so you'll be my first attempt."
"Then I promise not to be upset if you run screaming into the sunset." She said solemnly, trying not to giggle. "If you'll bring the wine."
X'amor sighed, "I'm glad, I would feel terrible if you were offended by me." he looked at the sun for a general idea of what candlemark it was and grimaced, "I'm afraid you're going to be incredibly pleased in a few moments. I have to leave." he winked at her, "My dragon is expecting a bath when he wakes up, and I have a feeling it will be soon, so I must say goodbye."
He got up from the sand and smiled down a the greenrider. He took her hand gently in his, his eyes sparkling mischeviously, "Just let me know when would be a good time for me to bring some wine by your weyr and I will speedily comply." he kissed her hand softly and quickly before he smiled once again and bowing slightly. "I will." She promised him with another smile. "Enjoy your bath!"
