Remember Me?

Writers: Paula, Rochelle
Date Posted: 19th July 2006

Characters: Sh'dori, Eleada
Description: Sh'dori and Eleada run into each other and talk while waiting for their children.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 26 of Turn 3

The sounds of children singing dutifully -if off-key- floating along the corridor told Eleada she was in the right place, to her relief. She hadn't counted on getting lost in a Weyr she had spent part of her life in. She eagerly sped up, checking each room as she passed for a glimpse of her boys.

She finally located the twins in the center classroom, and leaned against the wall to wait. There was man waiting outside the next room, and she blinked. She thought she recognized him... A broad grin crossed her face, and she abandoned her bit of wall to stride up to him.

"I hope I age half as well as you did, Sh'dori. Remember me?"

Sh'dori was waiting for the class to end. It was his turn to pick up the girls. When he first saw her, he couldn't place her right away. She looked familiar but... When she started to talk, he suddenly did remember.

"I never forget a beautiful greenrider. I did hear you're back, Eleada!"

Eleada chuckled. "Why thank you. It's not like there are so many charming brownriders on Pern that I can't recognize my favorite bedfur. How have you been?"

"I've been well. Doing my usual stuff. You?" Sh'dori answered.

Her smile faltered, but she shoved the memories aside. "Well enough.
Got scored a few months ago, and decided to transfer back to warmer weather. My boys couldn't be happier."

"Sorry to hear that," Sh'dori said softly. "We have had way too many scorings too during the past months."

"I heard." She said softly, and sighed. "It's not the scoring that's so bad. It's waking up to find out who didn't make it."

"I know," Sh'dori said, remembering suddenly his daughter, Sharixa's mother. It was almost three turns since she had been scored and killed, but the pain was still there.

Eleada gave herself a mental shake, and tried to move the conversation onto happier footing. "So... Who are you waiting on?"

"See those two little girls with dark, curling hairs? That's my daughter and grand-daughter," Sh'dori grinned proudly.

She smiled at his tone. "Daughter _and_ granddaughter? My, you have been busy." She teased, her eyes sparkling. "I just have the same three boys I had when I left. But they are adorable girls. How old are they?"

"Five and six. Close enough in age and in resemblance that people sometimes mistake them twins," Sh'dori said.

"Really? Funny how that works. My twins are seven, but people always think Eleadan is older."

"Yeah, twins can be either very different or totally identical. I have twin-sisters, and no outsider could ever tell them apart. Until they grew up and choose to be different. You know, cut their hair differently, chose different styles of clothes."

"I think the boys will probably do that when they're older. Right now Eleaxol wants to be like Eleadan, and Eleadan wants to be like Adaric.
Adaric isn't so happy about it though." She giggled.

"Idolizing the older brother? I've heard that's common. I wouldn't know since I was the oldest one," Sh'dori said.

"I was the baby, but the only thing I ever idolized C'radan for was his brown. Jorada never liked me, so it was easy _not_ to idolize her."
She laughed suddenly. "Maybe that's why I like you so much. You're another brownrider." She teased.

"Weakness for brownrider, have you?" Sh'dori matched her teasing with his own.

"I don't know about that... Perhaps it's a weakness for older men. Or men willing to put up with my teasing." She said coyly.

"You know me, I can put up with anything if it leads to bed," Sh'dori said with a naughty wink.

"Yes, I do." She chuckled, remembering well. "But not today. And... I only do flights anymore. With some exceptions."

Sh'dori gave her a speculative look and was about to say something when he was interrupted by the class ending. The hallway was suddenly full of small bodies.

Eleada noticed his look, but waited for him to speak. But before he could say anything, she found herself wading through a sea of children barely past her waist or lower. "Mother!" She turned at the sound of the excited shriek to see her twins bounding out of the classroom behind her, and Eleaxol quickly fastened himself to her waist, followed by Eleadan. She smiled down at them as she glanced back at Sh'dori.

Two little girls were hanging from his arms. "Daddy, Look I can write A!" Chadora was showing a piece of hide.

"Oh, that's wonderful," Sh'dori commented. He caught Eleada's look.
"Later, Ele," he said.

"Later, Sh'dori. It was nice seeing you again." She hugged her giggling twins fiercely. She was afraid to move very far for fear of trampling a small child now. "Did you have a good day boys? Where's your broth... oh. Over here, Adaric!" She waved at her eldest, and tried not to laugh at the two girls hanging from Sh'dori's arms. They really were adorable.
