"Weyrhealer? I'm sorry to bother you but I know my mother came to see you last month. I'm worried about her." M'tias didn't like have to go to the Weyrhealer but his mother's reaction to his father's belonging had frightened him.

"Oh?" Pacham asked, searching his mind for which particular patient the young weyrling could be referring to. "I'm sorry, can you remind me of your mother's name?"

"Marithi, she works in the kitchens. We're from Jade Harbor Hold." he wasn't surprised, his mother wasn't someone others remembered easily.

"All right." The Weyrhealer didn't recognize the name but it would be easy enough to look up later. "And you say you are worried about her?"

"She's had nightmares since she came here and I kinda bullied her into seeing a healer. The thing is, I don't think she has. My father died recently and when another rider brought the vaulbles he had left, she got really upset." he explained in a rush.

"Ah, I see." Pacham remembered now. The woman who had nightmares and couldn't sleep. He had recommended she see a mindhealer. "And how is she now?"

"Not too good, whenever I go to see her she's crying. I know she isn't sleeping and I'm scared. I don't know what I can do to help her."

"Well, grief is a natural process that can take time," the Weyrhealer said gently. "Perhaps you can suggest she talk to someone? A mindhealer perhaps?"

"Why would she grieve for him?" Mt'as asked. "She hates him. He made her misriable and there was nothing I could do about it. Why couldn't he just go away."

Pacham filed that bit of information away. "Things happen behind closed doors that you may not have been privy to, son. And there is more that a person could grieve for than just the death of a person. The end of a life you once knew, the end of a love you once felt, those can be deaths too."

"What can I do know? I thought getting her here would help her. Not make things worse."

Pacham shrugged. "Its possible that grieving is the best thing for her.
Sometimes we carry things around inside so long the best thing we can do for ourselves is get it out. I cannot say for sure. The best thing for her would be to talk to a mindhealer. Or for you to talk to her about it."

M'tias nodded, what the healer was saying made sense but it wasn't what he wanted to hear. He wanted to help his mother now. After all he had his siblings to think about as well.

"And perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea for you to see one as well," the Weyrhealer suggested gently.

"What do I need one for? I've got Woenth." he was honestly confused.

Pacham tried to hide a smile behind his bushy mustache. "Because, though dragons are very good listeners, they cannot always help their riders understand the complexity of human emotions. They cannot relate to the human experience. Talking to your dragon is of course very important, but talking to other humans is important too."

"I still don't think I need one."

"Well, just keep it in mind." The Weyrhealer knew that only time would tell.

M'tias sighed, He'd been hoping for some kind of help for his mother, not a suggestion that _he_ see a mindhealer. **OH well, as long as he doesn't mention it to the Werylingmaster.**
