Running into Apologies

Writers: Bree, Kimberly
Date Posted: 5th July 2006

Characters: O'dan, Isariana
Description: O'dan runs into Isariana - literally. The greenrider forgives him for one near-crushing, but not the other.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 25 of Turn 3

O'dan's favorite thing about being on crutches was getting to "bump" into women in the hallways and innocently blame his manly injuries for his clumsiness. Not that it worked on many of the women who had been around to see him get those manly injuries--or who had gotten injuries themselves because of him--but he never got tired of doing it.

Sometimes, though, he actually tripped and fell into whoever was unlucky enough to be in his path. This time it was Isariana, and O'dan ended up dropping one of his crutches to catch himself in an attempt to keep from slamming the poor girl's head into the wall. "Shards, I'm sorry, Isariana!"

It was with an undignified yelp that Isariana stumbled backwards a step or two, rolling her eyes a little at the injured rider. "Sure you are, O'dan, "
she retorted, amusedly. "Just like you were sorry when you, ah, 'bumped' into me a sevenday or two ago, if I remember correctly."

"Ahhh, but that time I just bumped," he replied as he braced his shoulder against the wall. "This time I almost crushed you, which I think is a lot less charming."

"At the very least, it's a little more life-threatening, " the other admitted, the ghost of a grin twitching at the corners of her mouth. She leaned an arm against the same wall, a few feet away, and regarded him levelly for a few moments. "Need some help, there?" she offered, after a short pause.

O'dan glanced down at his crutch, wondering if he was going to be able to pick it up without falling flat on his face. Probably not. "I always need help from pretty ladies."

The greenrider just shook her head, and bent down to pick up O'dan's crutch, presenting it to him with a slight inclination of her head, and a small roll of her eyes. "Here you are."

Feeling a little more steady with both of his crutches, O'dan turned his attention back to Isariana. "Now, I didn't threaten your well-being _too_
badly, did I?"

Isariana laughed, shortly. "No, not this time, " she responded, somewhat curtly. An edge crept into her words, even as her eyes fell briefly to O'dan's crutches. They were but one reminder of the threat that she and Fianth had been lucky enough to escape just some months ago.

O'dan winced, though he'd had far less friendly things said to him on the subject. "Fair enough. How about you let me try to make it up to you?"
She hesitated, brow drawn into a crease as the line of her jaw hardened slightly in the beginnings of a frown. "You've already apologized, " she pointed out. "Consider the near-crushing forgiven, O'dan."

"I'm fairly bulky," he replied with his most mischievious expression. "It might take more than an apology to be forgiven for nearly crushing you, you know..."

Isariana's visage relaxed, after a moment, and the woman just shook her head, slowly. "You never give up, do you?" she retorted, although not without the hint of a smile tugging at her lips. Despite the horrors that the man had put his wing through, she almost wanted to pity him for his injuries. And Kizynth; she had heard that the bronze's chances of flying again were probably slim, at best.

"Never," O'dan agreed easily, letting the wall take his weight again so that he wouldn't do anything so unmanly as to fall over. "So you might as well just let me make it up to you sooner rather than later... unless you like having a bronzerider hobbling after you on crutches!"

Her brow furrowed again. "Some things can't be 'made up' so easily, "
she said at last, frowning slightly. Certainly not what he had put all of them through. Her expression cleared, after a moment, and the greenrider grinned a tad. "Hobble away. You won't find me complaining." Much. Not that it'd improve his chances by a great deal.

"Don't think I won't," he replied with a far wider grin. "So you want to hobble in the direction of some klah, or do I have to chase you down later?"

Isariana's lips quirked upwards in a small smirk. "Send the klah my regrets, O'dan, and chase me down later, _after_ I've finished bathing."

"It's a deal," O'dan replied with a wink.

She shook her head a little as she continued on her way to the bathing caverns. If only he hadn't almost killed everyone a few months ago. She might just have taken him up on that offer. Well, maybe.
