Baked Goods

Characters: Y'sani, Karaleigh
Description: Y'sani and Karaleigh's evening out is cut short by an anxious
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 21 of Turn 3

Y'sani rolled over onto his back in the grass, groaning. "Woman, you are going to make me gain so much weight my dragon won't put up with me anymore.
No more dangling sweets in my face. We must have taken half of the Baker Hall away with us!"

"Only half? You mean there's _more_?" Karaleigh chuckled as she stretched out beside him.

Groaning again, Y'sani rolled his eyes upwards. "Please tell me we can wait at _least_ a day before going back for the rest of it. If I can still walk then."

"Oh, but there will be much more by then," she grinned. "They do keep producing, you know."

Rolling onto his side, Y'sani propped his head up on his hand so he could look down at Karaleigh. "I assume you've had enough for the afternoon, though?"

"I suppose," she sighed dramatically. "After all, you do eventually have to get me back on that beautiful bronze of yours."

Y'sani laughed, picking a piece of grass out of her hair. "Don't worry. I'm stronger than I look."

"Hmmm," she hummed as she looked at his arm and the stretch of his tunic across his chest. "That must be pretty strong."

"Moderately," he conceded with a lazy grin. "I've never had any complaints."

"Why? Who would ever complain?" Karaleigh asked as she poked at his stomach teasingly.

He caught her hand and twined his fingers with hers. "Anyone who I dropped would probably complain at length! Luckily, it's never happened." "And just how many people to do you carry around in your arms?" she asked lightly, her thumb boldly caressing his.

"Does picking them up by the back of their tunic and shaking them count?"
Y'sani replied every bit as lightly, though there was a heat in his eyes that was anything but teasing. "Oh, um, yes, I suppose that would count," Karaleigh said with a nervous chuckle. Shards, the way he was looking at her...

Her nervousness made him slow his movements, taking plenty of time to close the distance between them. Sometimes the leisurely pace of their courtship was frustrating for him, but fierce protectiveness that was roused by her every shy or nervous look encouraged him to take his time. Besides, letting her set the pace was its own sort of delightful torment.

Despite his reserve, Karaleigh was feeling anything _but_ that at that moment. It had been a long time since she had welcomed a man looking at her like that and he was moving way too sharding slow. She closed the distance between them the rest of the way herself, her fingers tangling in his hair as a turn without sex was starting to feel like an eternity.

Their kiss stretched on long enough that even Y'sani seemed a little breathless when he pulled back with eyes suddenly filled with frustration.
"Shards, I'm sorry, Karaleigh. I need to go back to the Weyr." He rolled onto his back for a moment and then climbed to his feet and held down a hand for her, looking rumpled and annoyed at the interruption. "I told Luthinath not to interrupt us unless it was important--and he says it's important." "Oh," Karaleigh blushed, wondering if she hadn't been a bit too forward. But surely he had to be used to forward women... She assured herself there must be a good reason as she took his hand and let her help him up. "Well, please bake the baked goods with you. You might get hungry later."

"Just bring them with us," he said, handing the basket to her before sweeping down to gather up the rest of their things. By the time Luthinath had come back from the ledge he was sunning on, Y'sani was ready to hop up onto his leg and tie their pack down. He reached down and got the basket from Karaleigh and secured that before holding down a hand for her.
"Whatever problem the weyrlings have gotten themselves into, I plan on fixing it _quickly_. I was in the middle of something, after all."

"Yeah, that you were." She tried to keep her tone light, but inside she was totally frustrated. The moment was gone...

She wasn't the only one who was frustrated. As Luthinath took them back to Dolphin Cove, Y'sani promised himself that whichever weyrling had decided to pick _tonight_ to do something stupid was going to learn the error of their ways.
