Description: Cirina gets a visit from home
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 13, day 20 of Turn 12
Notes: Mentioned: R'fayne, R'lor
The first warning Cirina had that they had visitors was Digger’s excited chirp before taking off from her bed, disappearing out of the Weyrling barracks in a rush. Only partially parsing the feelings of excitement, confusingly mixed with images of herself and Saejith, Cirina rushed after her pet. As she stepped outside, the reason for Digger’s excitement became crystal clear, the tiny brown having landed on Aeoluth’s head, where he was chittering excitedly.
Cirina knew O’rosin wouldn’t like it, but when she reached him, she nearly tackled him with a hug. It was his own fault, really, showing up smelling like sand and sunshine and home in a way the lakeside Weyr didn’t. “Oh you’re never going to believe what happened.” She ignored the fact that he wouldn’t be here if he didn’t already know.
The bright light of dawn at Dolphin Cove was what alerted O'rosin that something was wrong. Digger was supposed to have woken him up in the middle of the night to go get Cirina, when Barrier Lake's hatching feast wound down. But she hadn't, and that'd sent him into a full panic until Aeoluth had calmly relayed that she was fine and that Saejith had told him so. He had fully planned on skipping wing drills until R'fayne sleepily reminded him of the time difference and that it was _Threadfall_ that morning, and so he bided his time in low-grade dread until 'Fall was over and it was a reasonable time for him to rush to Barrier Lake.
He hugged her much too tightly and did not let go when Cirina thought the hug might be over. "What in the world happened?" Aeoluth stood not-so-patiently next to them, a low rumble reverberating in his chest as long as he went unnoticed.
“The egg hatched and it was a little blue, and I was sure he was going for Aydhara but then Rath _tackled_ him and then he started trudging towards the stands and oh, I didn’t actually think egg touching worked anymore, not really, but that has to be how he knew I was there, doesn’t it?”
In the barracks, Saejith had woken with a start, eyes whirling for a moment before he parsed out that Cirina’s intense emotion was mostly happy, if a little anxious, and then realized what was going on and scrambled to his feet.
“This wasn’t what was supposed to happen but he’s so perfect and it’s fine, it’s fine, I said any dragon would be-” her eyes suddenly took on that unfocused look she’d never had before, a moment before a dull grayish blue ball of excitement came tumbling out of the barracks.
The little blue didn’t make a beeline for his rider, but rather the big brown next to her, skidding to a stop in front of him before giving a few little hops, like a kitten, and declaring, }:I’m so glad you’re here.:{ After all, if Cirina loved Aeoluth, surely Saejith would too.
}: I had to come see her. :{ Aeoluth said matter-of-factly. He nosed the blue too aggressively for his small size and, in his excitement, accidentally bowled him over.
"Aeoluth!" O'rosin said, finally pulling away from Cirina. "Sit down. He's just a baby."
Aeoluth's whole body thumped to the ground too hard and he trembled with the effort of keeping still.
It was a lot to take in, and O'rosin was still struggling to process. "So…do you have anyone bringing you your things? Does your mom know?"
Saejith lay on his back for a moment, considering. When nothing exactly hurt, he simply flopped his way back to his feet, }:Of course you did. She’s wonderful.:{ It made perfect sense why the other dragon would have to come check on Cirina. }:She’s going to be the best. She chops the meat up into just the right sizes. And she put a bandage on my leg,:{ he showed off the small scratch on his limb, }:Viseya told her to remove it, though,:{ he huffed. Something about air being better for the small scratch.
Saejith seeming no worse for the wear for having been bowled over, Cirina moved over to where Aeoluth lay trembling. “It’s ok, Aeoluth; he’s just little and you need to be careful. He’ll be bigger soon though,” she scratched his eyeridge. To O’rosin, she said, “Yeah, my mom knows. I think she’s sad-happy for me. So far everyone is more frazzled by the two blue girls thing to get upset about the Stands Impression thing. The weyrlingmasters said they’d talk to R’lor and have my records and my things sent over, but I don’t know when that will be.” She plucked at a slightly oversized and entirely the wrong color shirt, “They gave me some stuff from the stores like I was one of those holder candidates who show up with just the clothes on their back; you know how it is. But at least it’s not as bad as the last time I moved; my stuff is just in a trunk at another Weyr, not under a tsunami.”
}: She is. :{ Aeoluth agreed. }: Viseya sounds like she's wrong.:{ He rumbled happily and leaned into the scratches.
}:I think Viseya is wrong, too!:{ Saejith agreed, }:But Cirina said we have to listen to her anyway. I liked my bandage.:{ He looked mournfully at his unadorned leg for a moment before resuming his little kitten hops, }:But eventually I’ll have straps, and maybe a bow like Digger.:{ He wasn’t jealous that his rider was scratching another dragon, but he was jealous of the firelizard’s decorations.
O'rosin looked down at his own shirt and belatedly realized that it was far too nice to be his. "I think I know." He said dryly. "Would Saejith let you leave for a candlemark? I could take you over now and you could collect anything you're missing. At least whatever you had in the candidate barracks."
